Cute little eatery

This coffeehouse has fabulous coffee, as Ethiopian coffeehouses always seem to be very flavorful and full bodied with their brews. The bonus for me going here is that they have Ethiopian food, too. Really, I would rather eat than drink, and this place has a fabulous vegan sampler. The sampler is a four-dish treat of tomato salad, which is refreshing and tart, complementing the rich earthy flavors of the yellow split peas and red lentils. The collard greens are a classic, but, if you prefer fresh uncooked greens, you'll be happiest with the tomato salad, as the collards are definitely well cooked, but also well seasoned.

The folks here are very nice. The store seating is comfortable, and you can look out to see the traffic walking and driving by, if you like that kind of view. The parking is street parking, but in this part of DC, it's not super bad and you can generally find a spot.

Pros: Vegan sampler, Coffee

Clutch breakfast delivery

I ordered from this spot on Uber Eats when I desperately needed breakfast, and I had a great discount code in my inbox. I got two dishes, two drinks, and a sambusa (y’know, the standard order for one human): the avocado toast, the vegan platter, an iced coffee, and an orange hibiscus lemonade that I think was a special.

When the driver came, I realized he forgot my coffee, but because I’m not too far from this spot, he just drove back up to pick it up quickly while I ate the sambusa on my stoop.

The food was delicious and just what I needed at the time. I loved the sauerkraut with the avocado toast. The only downside was that the avocado toast came with egg even though I requested it to be left off. I had to throw it out, which was wasteful (and obviously not vegan). It was a great large meal to graze on during a lazy recovery day!
