Disappointing. Maybe our expectations were too high. - Edit
You know how you feel when you are soooo excited for something but it then doesn’t live up to your expectations? That was our experience at B13.
Read moreWe had only 24 hours in Madrid so had to pick our spots judiciously. Of all the many vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants in the area, B13 sounded the best. Punk vegan tapas? Hells yes! The place was supposed to open at 13:00, and we arrived on the dot, so we could beat any rush given our limited time. The block was promising: skanky prostitutes and drunks arguing loudly at midday—gentrification isn’t entirely complete, apparently, which boded well. 13:00 came and went. Not open. No worries; we grabbed a beer across the street to wait. By about 13:15 we were in business.
The menu looked good, but there were no tapas. We’d been looking forward to vegan tapas. Vegan tapas! Maybe that’s just a nighttime thing? We forgot to ask, but we’d be gone by nighttime, in any case. Super nice punky staff. That boded well, too. But, sadly, with one exception (the delicious chicken-style burger), the food was just meh. Not terribly flavorful, and certainly not up to the promise of the menu and the rave reviews. We had the seitan sandwich, the chorizo with fries, and the felafels with hummus—all pretty blah.
With so many vegan options in Madrid, I don’t think I’d necessarily go back to B13, but if I did, I’d be happy to have the chicken-style burger and skip everything else.
Pros: All vegan, The chicken-style burger is great, Super friendly punky staff
Cons: With one exception, the food was only OK, Tapas? Where were the tapas?

The ambiance was super relaxed. The food was very cheap and tasted amazing! We had the patatas bravas, the calamari sandwich and the croquettas (mixed of the 2 they offered). Everything was great, especially the croquettas! The staff was super friendly.

We were really excited to try B13 based on all the reviews and when we arrived it was really busy! We arrived at 9:30 pm and had to wait about 30 min for a table. The food was being served quickly and people were not lingering after eating so it moved quickly. The food was vegan bar/junk food which was mediocre. We had the croquettes, calamares, and potatas bravas. We had better croquettes at other restaurants in Madrid, but the calamares was unique. Overall, probably wouldn’t return but it was worth trying! Also, just to note- it was cash only at the time we went.

Me encanta el b13. Es de los veganos mas baratos (con estos precios solo conozco la alpargata en Lavapies) y la comida esta muy muy conseguida. Recomiendo mucho los calamares, el pollo al ajillo y la tortilla. Además un local con muchas pegatinas y un rollo anarkovegano guay. Sin duda un imprescindible del Madrid vegano!! Eso si, no se puede reservar y suele estar llenito. Siempre puedes cogerlo para llevar y comertelo en plaza españa.

La mejor tortilla de papa que he comido. Buscaba probar comida tradicional madrileña y la encontré acá por buen precio y porciones abundantes. El lugar es animado, concurrido y diverso, pequeño y muy agradable. Está en una calle preciosa.

Uno de los clásicos restaurantes veganos de Madrid (y sinceramente, no entiendo por qué). Realmente, creo que mucha gente va aquí porque es muy barato, ya que ese es, sin duda, su principal punto positivo. Por lo demás, la comida no está muy allá (los platos están bastante poco elaborados), no aceptan pago con tarjeta, no sirven llevando la comida a la mesa, suele estar petadísimo de gente y hay que esperar fuera…
