Delicioso! - Edit
I ordered the quesadilla and it was absolutely delicious! It had pineapple In it and I felt it was great with it. I’m not really a fan of vegan cheese but the cheese with this quesadilla was special. I would absolutely order this again. I was tempted to order the patacones which they call pizzacones or something like that. I’m sad I didn’t order it because another table did and it looked legit. Hopefully I can make it here again while in Costa Rica.

I’ve been here at least 5 times since this initial review and I can honestly say this is one of the best restaurants, as far as taste, that I’ve visited. I’ve had many things on the menu and everything is delicious. This is a MUST visit when in the San José area!

Great food and drinks! - Edit
This restaurant exceeded our expectations. Everything we ordered, including the cocktails, was great and decent-sized portions too! It took a little time to get seated and to pay at the end, but other than that, the food came out in a decent amount of time and the service was friendly. It has an artistic vibe, sells local art, and has a little shop too. I hope they become fully vegan in the future -- they do great vegan substitutes in their meals, so why not ditch the dairy?

Cons: Charges extra for vegan substitutes, Not fully vegan

Delicious veggie/vegan place with plenty of options - Edit
We visited the place several times while in Costa Rica (so nice to find a 100% veggie place). We tried the rice rolls (mushroom and noodle filling) with potato wedges and mango salad (my favourite dish), quesadillas and casado. All were very delicious!

Hidden gem in a country not vegan friendly! - Edit
Really refreshing and exciting find in San Jose which is not big on vegan options. Not 100% vegan unfortunately but beggars can’t be choosers... located in the trendy Escalante neighbourhood and full of cuteness and character but a little rough around the edges. I would highly recommend.

Gorgeous lunch - Edit
We shared 3 dishes for lunch, all of them were very tasty. As a dessert I had a big piece of passion fruit pie which is a must try for cake lovers! As not all cakes are vegan there you have to ask which ones are.

Kinda “junk vegan food” - Edit
Ate lunch here with my friend. We shared the Superbowl, Sollofrijo caribeño & a side of fries topped with guacamole.
Read moreEverything was SUPER salty. The Superbowl was definitely missing a sauce; and we weren’t fans of the fried plantain & seitan in the Sollofrijo. All in all, everything looked and tasted like vegan junk food which obviously many people love. If you’re looking for something light and healthy I would recommend elsewhere.

Flavorful, filling vegan meals! - Edit
Árbol de Ceda was one of our favorite restaurants during our time in Costa Rica. The restaurant is beautiful, with a few different seating areas with their own unique style.
Read moreWhile the restaurant serves mostly vegetarian food - which may contain dairy, eggs, or honey - we simply mentioned we are vegan to our server when we sat down and they assured us they could veganize nearly any dish, including replacing dairy cheese with vegan cheese.
We ordered the Sollofrijo Caribeño and Rollitos de Papel de Arroz, and they absolutely blew us away. For desert, we shared a Chiffon Maracuyá (passion fruit) that was so sweet and fluffy. All the desserts are held in a case at the front - be sure to ask which are vegan!
Their mini shop is also filled with some fantastic goodies, including some very unique stickers and other art - be sure to check it out!
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Great shop, Inclusive environment
Cons: A bit more expensive than other SJ restaurants

Enjoy a Slow Meal Here - Edit
This restaurant has a casual atmosphere, big portions, and delicious food. The owner spoke enough English to tell me what was/wasn't vegan. Most things can be made vegan with vegan cheese, if necessary, but a lot is already vegan. They even have vegan options! Also the Bloody Mary is really good - made with green tomatoes - so it's kind of special. The prices are a bit high for Costa Rica (6500 for an entree), but you get a lot of food.

Best burger I've ever had! - Edit
Best burger I have ever had! (And I've had a lot of burgers here and there). It comes with a small side salad and a few wedges. The place is quite cute, not very central, probably in a poshy neighbourhood, but not too far from city centre ( 3km stroll)

Great food. Super big portions, so order carefully. The chocolate chiffon is by far my favorite. Lalay and Jaz are super nice and helpful. My only complaint is that is not wheelchair accessible but other than that I love it.

Good food& big portions! - Edit
There is no English menu. We don’t speak Spanish so thought we will have to figure out every meal ourselves with the translator. However, Lalay was really helpful with the menu and ingredients, she helped us to choose everything. Food was really nice and so much flavours ( we had leek&potato soup, mushroom soup, super bowl & rice paper rolls) loved everything! I wanted to try the dessert but there was no space at all-portions are really decent! Sorry no pictures taken-we were really hungry! :)

Delicious - Edit
I tried some great treats from Arbol de Seda at a gallery opening a couple of weeks back and was wanting to go to the restaurant so I took my parents for lunch this past Sunday which was election day. The restaurant was packed. The house where it's located is very nice and cosy. Staff was super friendly and all of our food was delicious. I especially enjoyed the Enyucados which are cheese-filled yuca patties topped with pico de gallo and avocado. Could have devoured this dish on my own. Also had a super tasty mango/strawberry lassi. There are plenty of vegan options. Highly recommended.

Yummy, rich food - Edit
Known because of being owned by LGBT rights activists, it is also known for the delicious food the chef makes. It is mainly Latin American food but also offers pizza. The food does relie a lot on mushrooms, garlic and onion, which can be a problem for strict hindus. It works with a list of dishes of the day that changes every day. The dishes always come with soup (usually a delicious bean soup), a salad (frequently a delicious ripe mango salad) and a drink (creative home-made fruit juices with or without sugar). The main dish tends to be big and rich. The cakes and desserts are delicious and they have 3 vegan options, and 2 of those are also gluten-free and sugar-free. In general though the vegan options in the menu are a minority.
Read morePros: Yummy, filling dishes, good value for money, Clean and pretty venue, well-located, Friendly staff
Cons: Not ideal for hindu "pure vegetarians", Not so many vegan options
