Delicious food, atrocious service - Edit
Everything we had was tasty, but you will sit forever waiting for your order to be taken, and then dishes will trickle out slowly and one at a time regardless of party size. I've heard the desserts are wonderful but we gave up waiting for anyone to come back to the table.

Best pancakes in the world - Edit
We got the matcha pancakes, soy teriyaki chicken bowl, and the chocolate banana parfait. Everything was insanely good! Note they only were taking people with reservations so we had to make one and come back a second time.

Pancakes lived up to the hype - Edit
The pancakes are epic! So fluffy, the fruit is fresh too and I loved the cream, it’s not at all coconutty so maybe soy? The rum and raisin ice cream is heavy on the rum flavour, which I loved! But if it’s not your cup of tea can swap for vanilla ice cream.

Delightful food - Edit
Make a reservation if you hope to go here, it’s small and it fills up quickly. Super tasty and wonderfully presented food. I had the Japanese fried (soy) chicken and the Spanish (tofu) omelette plus the pancakes which they were having a special on. The fluffy pancakes came with a thick whipped cream that melts in your mouth, fruit, and a dollop of ice cream. To die for.

Amazing food but staff overburdened - Edit
Ain Soph in Kyoto is an amazing place to eat vegan food. The portions are kind of small but they are tasting delicious and are really unique. A reservation or an early turn up is advisable because the restaurant is booked out really fast. The staff was really friendly and welcoming but unfortunately completely overburdened with the orders when we were there. We waited almost an hour for our dessert and then we’ve been informed that it’s sold out as most of the food on the menu. That was a really sad experience because we liked the restaurant a lot. Hopefully they work on their staffing.

Try the ice cream - Edit
Not as sophisticated as the Ain Soph. branches in Tokyo, but Ain Soph. Journey is probably still one of the best plant-based restaurant in Kyoto. Plenty of choices from Western style burgers to more traditional rice bowls. Definitely try the ice cream for desert.

Average - Edit
We were excited to go here after reading the great reviews but were left disappointed. Staff were friendly but they seemed very understaffed. There was only one other table when we ordered and our food came out staggered over the course of an hour (only ordered one main, one side and one piece of cake). The soy chicken was not very enjoyable and was difficult to finish due to being so salty. Would not return to this location. Keen to try a different Ain Soph for the pancakes.

I had the teriyaki chicken. Absolutely delicious. Really felt like I'd eaten a healthy, substantial meal. It's not super cheap but reasonable and I'd definitely come here again! The desserts look amazing.

Ain Soph Kyoto - Edit
Pancakes are a must! Burgers were good but they are pricy for what it is. Definitely get the pancakes though. We got there as they were opening and it was already forming a line. Small resturants, make a reservation if you want to be safe. But we got in without one but it was busy. #Veganuary

Wonderful Vegan Burger and Cake - Edit
I went with the crispy chicken burger and I honestly thought it was one of the best vegan burgers I’ve ever had! I also had the chocolate cake and that definitely was the best vegan cake I’ve had. Very high quality food at Ain Soph: Journey.

Great - Edit
The restaurant is located in the busy area between Gion and Shijo station. They have burgers and a few rice dishes on the menu. The taco rice was excellent and filling. Haven’t tried their fancy drinks but they seem popular with customers.

Can't go wrong, nice stuff and cute vibe. The only reason it's not 5 stars is it's just not quite as tasty as some places and soy meat I've had in Japan.

Did I die and go to Vegan Creme Brulee heaven? - Edit
Absolutely delicious food! The burger was wonderful and I had vegan creme brulee for the first time in my life there. It was so delicious that I am pretty sure I died and went to heaven. Ain Soph are known for their delicious deserts, so go there when you are really hungry. In fact, I went a little overboard and ordered too much food because it was all so good!
Read moreThis, along with its branches in Tokyo, are a staple of the vegan community in Japan. If you want western-style food, then you can't go wrong with one of the Ain Soph restaurants.
I'm just sad they closed Ain Soph. Ripple in Tokyo which was my favorite of the brand.
Pros: Delicious Food. No notes, it's perfect
Cons: Ain Soph.Ripple in Tokyo closed, Not closer to where I live ;-)
