Great taste great atmosphere - Edit
Really enjoyed the modern vibes in the place. You don't see it from the outside, but it's rather large for Kyoto standards. Food was tasty and nice to be able to enjoy food with mixed company (vega & non vega).

Delicious vegan Ramen! - Edit
Great ramen! Straight forward ticket system (ask for a ticket at the desk) when the restaurant is busy. Quick turnaround so we got a seat in less then 20 minutes despite having 2 groups and several people waiting before us. Vegan ramen was delicious - I think there was a spicy and non-spicy one. Staff were lovely and spoke good English. Only minus one star because it was quite expensive BUT it was a big portion.

Great classic ramen - Edit
Loved the options for vegan ramen here at Engine ramen. They have two different ramen options for vegan ramen and they’re both customisable. I got the zesty ramen with mushrooms as an extra. I’d say you need to add some extras otherwise it is mostly broth and noodles. The zesty is lovely as it is spicy and you get lots of spring onion on top.
Read moreWe did prefer the Ipudo ramen but Engine ramen has good toppings and things to add. For example they have kelp vinegar and chilli gin which we loved and definitely took the dish to the next level.
The atmosphere was really cool too.
All I’d say is that they missed out on having toppings or maybe adding tofu/ protein to the broth and you do have to pay extra for anything you’d like to add. Apart from that it was good classic ramen.
Also 100 yen cheaper for vegans!

Get the dumplings!!!! - Edit
I got the zesty ramen, which was good but a little bit boring (and expensive) but the dumpling soup was incredible, i’d go back just for that!

Excellent creamy vegan ramen - Edit
I would give five stars if I could! This place has 2 types of vegan ramen made with egg-free noodles, as well as the option to sub gluten-free noodles for 200 yen. I loved the Kyoto Beaning Ramen. The broth is thick and creamy, which I greatly enjoyed and was a welcome change from your typical thin ramen broth. It was flavorful and filling. They offer complimentary tea, as well as chili gin (!!) and kelp vinegar to season your ramen. Be prepared to wait as it is quite popular. The vibe is nice, with lots of Japanese books and magazines to peruse while waiting for your food, and compact, space-efficient seating.

Quick service + generous portion. - Edit
I went for lunch and this place fills up quickly so I recommend getting there 15 minutes before opening so you can definitely get in. For dinner I'm sure there will be a big queue. The food was in front of me within minutes of me ordering which was great. They have two vegan options, I had the mild ramen and it hit the spot.

Don't miss the vegan dumpling soup! - Edit
There were 4 ramen options on the menu, 2 of them vegan.
Read moreI had the vegan beaning ramen with additional egg (so vegetarian, not vegan). It was fine. I wished there were more vegetables and it was a bit too greasy for my taste. However, my companions loved this ramen. So it is probably just my weird taste. 😅
We also had the vegan dumpling soup as a side dish which was truely amazing! This was so far the best soup I have eaten in Japan so far. 😍
The prices are a bit higher than usual which was fine for me. At least I had a decent vegetarian meal. It was not super easy to find a vegetarian meal in Kyoto.

Absolutely lip smacking delicious vegan ramen.
Read moreThere are two veg/vegan ramen: zesty and bean. We tried the zesty one and loved it. The vegan dumpling soup was okay. The portion size is generous. The pricing is on the expensive side but for the quality of ingredients and taste, well worth it.
During the busy hours there is a lot of waiting.

2nd try due to long wait - Edit

Lives up to the hype - Edit
There are 2 vegan options currently on the menu. The ramen was delicious, the staff are friendly and all speak english. It doesnt feel like an authentic Japanese experience as its full of foreigners, but the food is delicious so worth coming here anyway. There is often a wait to get in so bear that in mind.

Great noodles - Edit
Best noodles of our trip. Definitely a creamier broth. My sister said the chicken dumpling soup was fantastic, and I kind of wish I had gotten the vegan dumpling soup. We didn’t see a single Japanese person eating here, only tourists. Expect about a 30 wait for dinner.
