Beautiful space, average food ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The vibe of this restaurant is absolutely beautiful — open-air, spacious, and surrounded by nature. It feels like the kind of place you could sit for hours and just soak in the view. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite match the atmosphere. Everything looked great but was lacking in flavor. Overall, it was just okay — worth visiting for the ambiance, but not necessarily for the food.

Beautiful restaurant - Decent Food

We really enjoyed our visit to Zest. We went with some trepidation as we had read reviews suggesting our experience would be marred by unsubtle instagrammers doing their thing. However this was not the case. The restaurant had a nice ambience and the service was friendly.
The food was generally really good. We had sweetcorn ribs (delicious), coconut calamari, ramen and Thai noodles. It was also nice to be able to have a few decent glasses of wine with our meal.

Pros: Good food - fully vegan restaurant, Attractive restaurant, Friendly service

Cons: Online booking system a little strange

Good!

The venue is beautiful and staff is kind, but service was tooo slow and the food came cold (and the coconut warm). Portions are quite small and food was not special.

So good

We were in ubud for a week. We tried sticking to just Indonesian food, but thought we’d splurge on Zest once. We came back 2 more times. Such good food! Worth the higher price- still cheaper than Melbourne, especially for the quality. Definitely a bougie yoga atmosphere but still a great experience. The desserts from the cabinet were the only things that weren’t quite up to that same standard.

Pros: Taste, Vegan everything, Quality

Cons: Bougie yoga vibes, Cabinet desserts (still pretty good)

Fancy vegan meal

Really fancy vegan meal. Beside Plant bistro and Sayuri is Zest best option in Ubud if you are looking for not big portions. Here is also Herbivore but this is completly differenrt experience.
Back to food I had BabyJackfruit with side dish salad, coconut water and second time I had strawberry waffle and mushroom coffe. The waffle was heaven in the Earth, also I liked very much the Jackfruit, the way it was served was cool. (Other meal are califlower wings with potato, and royal breakfast)

Overrated and overpriced

Was disappointed by this restaurant. It’s got great views and atmosphere - the food is alright but honestly, just alright. I had curried cauliflower “wings” with smashed baby potatoes and it didn’t had much taste. The portions are tiny and not enough for a full meal.

Cons: Expensive, Tiny portions

Jungle Views & Plant-Based Creativity

What I Tried So Far (5 visits):
🥤 Drinks: Zesty Hot Chocolate, Mighty Mushroom Latte, Iced Mocha Frappe,
🍳 Breakfast: Royal Breakfast, Savoury Seaweed Waffles
🥢 Appetizer/Snack: Sweet & Smokey Cauliflower Wings
🍔 Dinner: Zest Burger Sliders
🧇 Dessert: Strawberry & Cream Waffles

✨ Zest is one of those places you hear about long before you step inside — and for good reason. Perched above the lush jungle with sweeping views of the Campuhan Ridge, it feels like the heart of Ubud’s conscious food scene. After 5 visits, I’ve made my way through a good mix of the menu, and what I love most is how every visit feels a little different. Sometimes it’s a cozy drink stop, sometimes a full dinner with friends — it always has that vibrant yet laid-back energy that makes you want to stay awhile.

☕ The drinks are a big highlight for me. The Mighty Mushroom Latte surprised me with its earthy, grounding flavor — so comforting it quickly became my go-to when working here. The Zesty Hot Chocolate is rich and indulgent, while on hotter days the Iced Mocha Frappe was refreshing, treat-style pick-me-up.

🍳 For breakfast, the Royal Breakfast felt generous and balanced — the cheesy tomato was a standout and it’s one of those plates that makes you feel taken care of. The Savoury Seaweed Waffles were completely unique, with an umami kick, even if I probably wouldn’t order them again. Definitely worth trying once for the experience.

🥢 The Sweet & Smokey Cauliflower Wings are dangerously good — crispy, flavorful, and technically shareable… though I didn’t really want to.

🍔 Dinner with the Zest Burger Sliders was probably my favorite overall. I loved the variety of flavors in the mini burgers and found it surprisingly filling.

🧇 And finally — I’ll admit I was cheeky and ordered the Strawberry & Cream Waffles for breakfast one day. Light, fresh, and just indulgent enough — the perfect sweet note to start (or end) a day.

✨Zest is a must-visit for anyone in Ubud — whether you’re after a cozy drink, a unique breakfast, or a full plant-based feast with friends. Every visit feels special, and I can’t wait to keep exploring the menu over and over again!

tiny portions, but beautiful restaurant

this place has a really massive menu, amazing for vegans.

you can even choose cacao by strength, according to your taste buds.

BUT portions are reallllly tiny, and in my opinion not worth the money for what is considered an expensive restaurant in Ubud. Locals wouldn't be able to afford to eat here.

the decor and location are wonderful, though.

Pros: Decor/ambiance, friendly staff

Cons: Portions are too small

Definitely worth the visit, great vibe and complete vegan menu which I feel was resonanbly priced. I had pizza and jackfruit ribs. My partner had a burger all was really good. The showstopper for me was the array of deserts which were amazing

Pros: Large selection of deserts, Good vibe

Cons: Bit out of the way

Perfect for date night

Booked a table at Zest for a fancier dinner while we were in Ubud and it did not disappoint.

The crushed & crispy baby potatoes are some of the best I've ever had, crunchy and perfectly matched with the chipotle mayo. The raw lasagne was a huge portion of creamy cashew and tangy tomato sauces layered with fresh vegetables, my partner's vegan schnitzel was just as good.

The ceremonial cacao was rich and we loved that you could customise it with various additional flavouring and cream options. Dessert was also a winner, with the tiramisu being the stand out - we fought over the last pieces.

It is quite a busy place, so would strongly recommend booking to ensure you get a table, and while I loved the "shoes off" vibe, my partner wasn't as convinced. It is also on the pricier side of your food options in Ubud, so would save it for a special occasion or when you're looking to be less casual.

I tried the rosery kombucha which was really good. The vegan schnitzel with mushrooms was really delicious as well and especially the sauce on top of it was awesome!

Get the Savoury Seaweed Waffles

Zest Ubud is set on a mountain and has excellent views. There is a very unique aesthetic that this place has when you walk into it, with trees growing inside as well interesting statues along the walls. When I came in the morning, it was very busy, maybe 70% occupied, so it seems to be very popular. I highly recommend the savoury seaweed waffles here which were spectacular. I have never seen a seaweed waffle before so was curious to try it, and it was really good.

Pros: Beautiful aesthetics and views , Excellent food

Cons: Can get very busy

Great flavours but some uncooked food

Great views and had a traditional Balinese feel about the place.

The food had great flavours however some parts were cold/uncooked was a shame.

A slight gripe is that there are a lot of “traveller Vibes” people who were sat on tables - which is not where you then want to eat food from.

Beware though, the cheese balls come with mayonnaise all over the plate and this is not mentioned on the menu.

Amazing atmosphere

Creative options here, i had the plant steak with gravy/ cheese balls and another time had one of the salads. Both really delicious. Deserts look fun as well but full from the main courses both times! View and atmosphere is gorgeous.

Legendary zest

One of those OG in Ubud. Might be a bit too much for some, it attracts all kinds of spiritual people, but the food is real nice :)
P.s.: bring back the double choco croissant & syrniki pls

Pros: Coffee, Pancakes , Royal brekkie platter

Cons: Grim atmosphere at times, Changing menu and removing my fav stuff, A tad inconsistent
