A feast for your eyes and tongue - Edit
This is a highly stylish place with excellent service, super fast chefs and authentic cuisine. Some dishes have been adapted to Taiwanese tastebuds (less hot & less herbs) but that is to be expected - none of the locals seem to notice but in international comparison, vegan food in Taiwan is plain, oily, sweet-salty hybrid (and the list goes on). But this restaurant is already more on the Vietnamese than the Taiwanese side of the spectrum.
Read moreWe especially loved the shrimps and a desert with jelly. Also the coffee was of the real fragrant and strongly brewed kind you find in Vietnam.
Almost all dishes are vegan and if not they are clearly labeled.
Pros: Fast service, Beautiful surroundings, Lots of tasty food choices
Cons: Adjusted to Taiwanese taste

Expensive mediocrity - Edit
This vegetarian restaurant has a number of vegan options, but if you’re looking for authentic tasting Vietnamese veg food, you won’t find it here. (NB: I am Vietnamese.)
Read moreThe waitstaff was lovely and helpful, the ambiance was nice, but the food was expensive and nothing like veg food you’d find in Vietnam.
We tried a number of dishes and the only ones we liked were the fried oyster mushrooms, the lemongrass seitan, and the tamarind juice (though overly sweet). Unfortunately, the banh mi, banh xeo, vegan fish sauce, and egg(less)rolls were disappointing. I didn’t try them but my husband really disliked the fried tofu skins.

Elegant Vegan Vietnamese Dining in Taichung - Edit
Chay Viet is a relatively new and much-loved addition to Taichung's restaurant scene. The modern and serene restaurant offers a wide range of traditional Vietnamese dishes, including appetizers, salads, soups and entrees, including curries. Dishes are beautifully prepared and delicious; service is efficient and friendly. Extensive alcohol list. Free parking.
