A Tiki Little Number - Edit
Usually, a themed restaurant would set alarm bells ringing. Almost unanimously, an establishment that relies of such a crutch is one that isn’t going to be a bastion of fine fayre. However, there are always exceptions to any rule, and with this place being located where it is, I thought I’d take my chances.
Read moreWhile it would be very easy to see why many people would find the decor to be gauche, gaudy, and perhaps even questionable, in this instance I found the kitsch aesthetic to be quite welcoming and even homely. Of course, my comfort levels were significantly enhanced when the first in a cavalcade of fabulous cocktails arrived.
Having polished off said beverage in an unadvisedly speedy manner, it was time to press on see if the food could surpass my admittedly meagre expectations. The ever reliable spring rolls and samosas provided a flying start to proceedings and, in truth, the spread never wavered from this initial position of strength. Every dish that proceeded was of substantive quality, and each provided a point of difference, be it flavour or texture, that kept me interested throughout. Not all were equal though, two offerings in particular, the crispy corn tacos and the Kung Pao tofu, surpassed their counterparts and garnered a lot more of my attention.
If you are looking for a playful brunch spot without airs and graces, but with equally solid eating and drinking options, you could do much worse than here.
