Great vegan Bistro in Johannesburg - Edit
I was very surprised to reveal such a gem in South Africa which is known for Steaks and all meat stuff. The vegan Chef Sandton is a small restaurant with shop inside. The menu is huge and from eastern to western style food. For me it was really cheap and because of todays Valentines day everyone is offered a free Brownie 🥰 Will definitively go back should I find myself again in Joburg.

I had higher hopes for this spot based on the previous reviews but what I ordered was just okay. Especially after having some great vegan options at a non vegan establishment earlier today it paled in comparison. Here’s what I had and what my tastebuds experience.
Read moreGourmet Rib Burger: 3/5 - the slaw was overwhelm and outshined the ribs which I expected to be the star of the show. I even tried a piece off the burger and it wasn’t giving flavor boom.
Fries- 3.5/5 -soft but tasty
Mince samosa - 3/5 - just okay. I ate one and gave the rest to my non vegan wife who hasn’t tried them as I type this review.
Soya mince pie - 2.5/5 - this could have been good but there’s a flavor which I can’t pinpoint but it wasn’t enjoyable for me. The wife didn’t mind it though
Sauces/dips: 3/5 - I had ranch and
Chocolate chip cookies: 2.5/5 - I actually ordered shortbread but they were out. These are basic and too tough to bite.
All in all - try it at your own risk. I wouldn’t seek it out again but if I were in a bind and it was the only option I’d try some different options

Good Vegan Burgers 🍔. - Edit
We had a great experience at The Vegan Chef in Johannesburg! Thanks to an amazing 2-for-1 deal, we got to try the Falafel Burger, the Crispy Chicken Burger, and the Rib BBQ Burger — and every single one was absolutely delicious. Great flavors, satisfying portions, and a fantastic value for money. Highly recommended for anyone looking for tasty vegan comfort food!

I ordered delivery for 2 crispy “chickn” burgers 🍔(buy 1 get 1 free) and tofu masala & a plain rice. Pretty good for the 2 burger deal. Just one star off for improvement - the gluten patty seems to be very plain, not much taste or texture or the ingredients are not the best quality. I wish they always keep up with the good vegan vibes! Will return in the near future!

What a great variety, the ONLY problem was we could not choose what to get. I had the zinger special which was excellent, my wife had the toasted chicken mayo and the chickpea curry wrap, she raved about both! Then for desert chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, which was out of this world. And the strawberry mylkshake was more delicious than any dairy one can dream to be. What a way to celebrate 29 years of marriage. We also bought take away frozens to continue the feast at home ;-)

The Absolute Worst Happy Cow Forces 2 stars - needs 0 - Edit
Happy Cow, if you block honest reviews, how can we trust your site anymore? I have to give this review context, as I am a lifelong vegan of over 30 years, and I've eaten in hundreds of vegan establishments all over the world. I want vegan restaurants to win. In fact, it is crucial that vegan restaurants excel more than any other kind of restaurant because we need the world to go vegan. This review has been about 6 months in the making, wanting this place to get its act together, to have one decent thing to eat on the menu in Joburg or Umhlanga. It has never happened and today I decided I have to write a review.
Read more6 months ago I ate at TVC in Sandton for the first time. Had a Beyond Burger and chips. The burger came on a dry bun with old wilted lettuce and zero flavor. The chips looked like they were totally raw, had been quickly dunked in some hot oil, and plopped on the plate sogging with hot oil and uncooked. They were inedible. The whole meal was revolting. Today I went to the TVC in Umhlanga after seeing a thing on tiktok where this woman was eating this huge thick "chicken" burger saying she got it at TVC in Umhlanga. I thought ok I will give them one more try. The reason I say this place is a fraud is because they are simply pedaling full blown fake advertising. The photos they post on their social media are not of things they actually have on the menu. It's a fraud to get people in there and then serve the most stale, tough, disgusting things that I don't even think you can call food. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich as lauded by the woman on Tiktok, some chips. I asked for mayo with my chips and the woman taking my order argued for 5 minutes in a barely comprehensible accent that they don't have any mayo. I pointed out that they have a chicken mayo sandwich on the menu so how can it be they have no mayo, she went around in circles for 5 minutes saying they had no mayo. They bring the sandwich out 20 minutes later, I'm the only one there. I kid you not, it's a square shaped piece of breaded shoe leather that was supposed to be a chicken patty, and it's pounded to 2mm depth. Just look at the photos, I have no more room to finish my review. This place is the worst, the food is inedible, the service clueless. The positive reviews on google have to be written by friends and family this place is giving vegan food a bad name which is why it's empty.

Cons: inedible stale tough terrible food, clueless staff, bare, downtrodden environment
