The singular best vegan restaurant - Edit
Having traveled pretty widely and eaten a lot of vegan food (from the cheap to the pricey), Red Fern remains my absolute favorite vegan restaurant around. A delicious selection of hearty meals (esp. for those who went vegan but still like “meaty”, “cheesy”, options), unparalleled desserts, and kind staff. I have driven 1.5 hours roundtrip before just to eat a Steak Bomb sandwich. Go—you will not be disappointed!

Favourite vegan spot in Roch❤ - Edit
Great vibe and delicious, healthy vegan food. Loved the 'compost plate' (their take on traditional Rochester garbage plate 😜). Uses mismatched, sustainable vintage tableware which is a bonus👍

A Must-Stop in Rochester!! - Edit
I cannot come to Rochester without visiting The Red Fern!! It's always great. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is so lovely, the prices are fair, and there's Wi-Fi if you want to hang and get some work done. Most importantly, the quality of the food it's consistently good. Be sure to check out the dessert case to have a treat while you're there, or do as I do and take one home for later!!

I got to order "steak and potatoes" again! - Edit
Everyone raves about the Red Fern, but we are also rather picky people as well as being vegan so a lot of sauces and textures and such can be a bit much for us... But they had a Portobello French Dip special last week so we couldn't resist. My husband ordered that, and I ordered the "steak" & potatoes, and we both ate both plates and were very happy. It was delicious, and both dishes were simple enough for us simple folk.

What a find. Staying in Rochester and unfortunately only discovered this little gem on my last night, otherwise would have eaten there all week! I had the pumpkin and sweet pot Alfredo pasta special (I left out the ‘bacon’ bits as not a fake meat fan). It was absolutely delicious, perfection on a plate. Also took away some huge mint chocolate cake, tasted it, divine.
Read moreThe menu is extensive but not overwhelming, and absolutely love how they offer and label GF/oil free options etc. The place is super gorgeous and the staff were lovely. Nice beer, also. And very reasonable prices. Can’t wait to return. Go here!
PS I’d recommend booking, we went at 7pm on a Friday night, we’re lucky enough to get seated at the bar (which was fine, comfortable), but would book ahead in future if poss.
Pros: So many options and totally vegan!, Lovely, friendly staff, Cute vibes and lovely decor

Delicious food including fantastic deserts - Edit
We are always pleased when we run across an all vegan restaurant. The Red Fern had a good selection along with daily specials. Everything we had was delicious. We tried their deserts. There were 3 of us and we each got something different. My husband's brownie was rich and decadent. My daughter had the chocolate mint cake, moist and delicious, such a generous serving she took the rest home. I had the cheesecake which was fantastic! I'm not sure what they use as a base but it was the same texture and and creaminess as dairy cheesecake. I could have easily eaten a second piece. If you go to the Red Fern, save room for desert!

Compost Plates! - Edit
If you’re veg*an and have ever wondered what the fuss over the Rochester “garbage plate” is, this place is for you. They offer a veggie equivalent, the “compost plate,” which can be made gluten free as well.

Everything we had was excellent. Buffalo cauliflower appetizer, vegan cheese steak, a vegan chicken salad, and terrific vegan desserts (mint oreo choc cake and a great cheesecake). All the wine and beer are vegan as well

Unsatisfying - Edit
I’ve been to Red Fern a handful of times, each visit trying to hope for improvements. However, I’ve been consistently disappointed with their food. It is often bland, not high quality, and the desserts are often in weird combinations. As well, the water often tastes like chlorine whenever they put lemon in it. The only food I have enjoyed there was the truffles. I appreciate that it is a fully vegan restaurant, however I don’t recommend their food, especially for people transitioning to veganism.

Red fern never disappoints! Their weekly specials are always amazing, especially their flatbreads. Their regular menu includes soups, sandwiches salads and more. Highly recommend trying their quesadilla as well as their cheese platter! All of their desserts are amazing as well, especially their mint-Oreo cake and their peanut butter Rice Krispies. I also love that they serve kombucha from another local business, Katboocha as well as ice cream from Eat Me Ice Cream.

LOVED the Desserts - Edit
I went there for desserts + tea +Fresh Juice and they were fantastic! The vegan cakes and ice-creams and tea were really great. This is my go-to place for a sit-down restaurant to have vegan desserts in Rochester. I recommend trying the Samba Chai, the Beet-it Juice and a piece of Oreo-Mint Cake.

New customer for life!! - Edit
I was visiting Rochester for work. I went the first night and ordered the compost plate. It was great. Sweet potato mash Mac salad and their sauce. My friend got the lentil burger and we both finished everything on our plates. I ordered two orders of the wings to-go and a cookie. Which I was going to take with me but finished it before I left. The place is quaint in size but the staff and eaters are lively and having a fun time. Local kombucha and beer on tap. I had blueberry kombucha equally as good as everything so far. Went back for to-go food the second night. I ordered the steak bomb and Mac salad. Loaded nachos. And lentil loaf. Everyone at that restaurant I interacted with was knowledgeable and happy to be working there.
