Vegan garbage plate!

I loved coming here, had the compost plate with seitan and chocolate mint cake. Also tried the blackberry lavender bar. Everything was delicious and would love to try other things on the menu

Best oil-free WFPB dinner ever!

I’ve been eating WFPB with no added oil for a very long time and this has been our best meal out ever! While not everything is oil-free there were so many options and our dinner was so very flavorful! We’re visiting town and The Red Fern will be the reason we will be back. Lucky local vegans to have this restaurant in your home town.

Pros: The accommodations of dietary restrictions , Quality whole foods used, Hearty servings

Cons: Bummed they’re not open everyday

Must stop in Rochester

Got a quick to go order of the quesadilla which was pretty good and had to try the funfetti cheesecake which was great (not a big fan of the frosting on top).

Everyone was kind and I loved the cozy and casual atmosphere inside😄

Such a little treasure

Delicious food, with huge selection. The steak bomb and buddah bowl were amazing. Though we all did a lot of sharing here.

Really excellent spot! Tons of gluten-free options

Loved the gf Mac n cheese nachos. Very very good. The gf caesar with Buffalo chicken was lovely. Had a gf garbage plate with Buffalo tempeh was pretty good. My MIL had the mac n cheese and was very happy with it.

A gf sundae was spectacular and the blueberry jam square was divine.

Highly recommend

Wanted to love this place

Really wanted to love the food the macaroni salad is good so are the herb gravy and mash potatoes. The lentil loaf arrived very cold on the inside more than likely from ordering close to closing thats on me yet it wasn't good unfortunately 😕 would try again just something different.

Lives up to its reputation

Was in Rochester for a conference and had multiple people recommend The Red Fern to me without knowing I was vegan. Got the compost plate of course to really get the Rochester experience. Everything was delicious!

Great gluten free baked goods!

I grabbed some gluten free baked goods to-go and everything was delicious! I hope next time I’m in the area I have time to stay for lunch!

Wonderful!

Love trying vegan takes on local dishes, such as the compost plate! Everything was delicious! The service was wonderful. My kids loved the nachos and cheese pizza. The server told us about the cheese pizza; it was not on the menu. The compost plate was also delicious. Highly recommend.

Really tasty desserts

I tried what I think was a jam bar and the chocolate peanut butter krispy treat from a party tray of desserts. Both were delicious! If I ever get back to Rochester I want to go to the red fern to try the food and the cheesecake.

So tasty I forgot to get a pic!

Got the breakfast pizza special and the buffalo chicken bacon ranch salad. Both were phenomenal. Plus we tried both of the kombuchas on draft and they were both super tasty!

Pros: Great food, Kombucha on tap, New specials frequently

Delicious food

we ate here recently whilst on holiday - 2 vegans, 1 veggie and 1 omni.
we all had a main and a dessert and they were delicious - empty plates all around.
The omni and veggie said they would definitely visit again.

Some of what we ate - lentil loaf with mash and gravy ; burger ; specials of the day ; cheesecake ; carrot cake ; brownie

Will definitely visit again when we are in the area

Pros: Great Food

Thoughtfully delicious

I went here the other week with my good friend before a jazz show. While I am not new to vegetarian/vegan food, I am new to dining in a restaurant that is exclusively vegan. I got the lenti loaf with greens and rosemary potatoes... WHOA. When I tell you it was phenomenal and I cannot stop thinking about it, I mean it. I am hoping to get to go out with my wife sometime soon to share in the vegan bounty with her. Their food is delightful and their space is warm and welcoming. I will be coming back.

Pros: Quality of food, Variety of options, the bakery!

Cons: street parking in rochester is always a pain, Reservations are usually a good call, Table time limit to accommodate folks

The Red Fern

Delicious home style wonderful vegan food. I had “the compost” (pictured) & a glass of delicious freshly squeezed juice. Both satisfying and very flavourful.

Baked cheesecake with cherry sauce was something sooo special, I shall never forget it!!

When ever I visit Rochester NY, this resto is a must!!

Pros: Food was really great with a variety of choices , Ambiance was cosy/lovely/friendly/clean, Vibe is one of genuine care for animals!

Decent But Not Perfect

I had a steak bomb with a side of sweet potato salad.
The seitan was good, but cut into such big chunks it didn't work in a sandwich. I really dislike the bread though and I think that's what made it not great. I did enjoy the potato salad

Always great food

Been here tons of times always forget to review. This is one of the Rochester favorites for every vegan as every other review says. Vegan comfort food in a warm inviting atmosphere, with lots of vegan sweets as well. Large menu that always has rotating specials as well, take out is pretty quick but you usually need a reservation for Friday Saturday. If your not from here this is a must go.

Pros: Large menu w/ rotating specials, Friendly staff, Tons of sweets

Fabulous Vegan Vibe and Food in Rochester NY

VegNews did an article about vegan friendly Rochester NY, and specifically mentioned Red Fern, and they were right on. My wife and I traveled from Miami to ROC and went straight to Red Fern, just ten minutes from the airport. Wonderful old neighborhood with houses built in the late 1800s. Red Fern is located in a part of one of these amazing houses. Such a cool vibe. Sit inside or outside on the quaint corner. Service is excellent and the food is first rate. Wide selection of plant-based options, hard to choose, but everything is fresh and delicious. Must go! And then must drive just one hour to Watkins Glen area to visit two of the best animal sanctuaries in the country - Farm Sanctuary and Sweet Farm. Tours are available.

My true addiction

I moved to roc 4 years ago but first went to the red fern 7 years ago. I totally manifested finding a Rochester husband in order to get me closer to the red fern 🤣. I get the compost plate (at least) once a week. I get it with lentil burger and double Mac salad. It truly is my favorite food. The cakes are phenomenal. The specials are amazing. The staff is kind, and the owner donates tons of money to local animal charities. I absolutely love this business and all of the food 🩷

Pros: Good owner, Friendly staff, Amazing (healthy-ish) food

Cons: Wish I could afford going here everyday

Great find!

I was so excited to find this place after a week in a rural town with only veggie burgers.
So many great options here. The baked Mac and cheese was amazing. Very creamy and filling.
My husband had the loaded nachos— with so many toppings it’s like nothing you’ll ever have anywhere else. We also share the quesadilla which was also excellent.
This is a must have if you’re in Rochester.

Eclectic

Quality creative diner food. They have a compost plate - the vegan version of Rochester's regional specialty -Garbage Plate.

They also have a whole bakery case that always has amazing things including beautiful cheesecakes theater are browned on the top edges. Lots of GF options, too.

I've had many things but recently came in for an eggs Benedict brunch special with Yo Eggs. It was great.

Pros: All vegan, Interesting specials

Cons: Indoor seating isn't accessible

Get the cheesecake!

Delicious food and a very friendly staff! Came here with a group from work that all had various dietary preferences/restrictions, and The Red Fern accommodated us all. It was probably the first time that all of us could order everything on the menu😄the lentil burger (loaded!) was great, along with the soup of the day. But omg the cheesecake! Get the cheesecake. It's awesome.

Pros: Cheesecake, Friendly staff, Welcoming and accommodating menu

Meh mains, fab desserts

First the praise: the desserts are to die for and absolutely worth a visit (or several). The food, however, was just meh. Everything seemed gloppy and coated in some kind of sauce; not just what we ordered but also what was on neighboring tables. I’ll go back to grab some desserts to go, but that’s about it.
