Pizza - Edit
Amazing pizza, I wish you didn’t have to pay extra for vegan cheese though!

Family visit - Edit
Came here with two omnis for Saturday dinner - it’s a very popular pub with a wide craft beer selection and big portions. It doesn’t allow reservations, except for Sunday roast, which means that it can be hard to get a seat due to popularity. You seat yourself and order at the bar.
Read moreWe waited about 20mins for a table - we ended up upstairs on one of their long buffet tables which we shared with another couple - it was heaving. They offer a selection of vegetarian pizzas that can be made vegan as well as a build your own.
Pizzas have gone up in price since people’s last review. They charge £3 for vegan cheese which feels extortionate. A margarita pizza cost me £17 as a result. On the plus side, the pizzas are designed for sharing and not singletons - they serve two! So if you do have a friend with you or a fridge to store it in afterwards that’s perfect.
The pizza itself was really nice and served uniquely in a square tin. It was quite garlicky which is the only thing I would change - and I’m usually a one garlic clove per person type gal.
My main critique is that the tables are not made for children or short people (I am 5”1). On the second floor tables, once food arrived, I was eating from neck level which was really uncomfortable.
My average height friends were eating at about chest level - so it was slightly high for them too.
Pros: Yummy. , Sharing portions , NHS and student discount
Cons: Pricey for a singleton, Uncomfortable seating, Can’t reserve a seat

Cosy and central pub with generous portions! - Edit
The Old Firehouse is a cosy ‘proper pub’ next to the central station in Exeter. The lunchtime options are plentiful for veggies and vegans and portions are very generous as well as reasonably priced. I had the vegan moussaka and would highly recommend it! The evening menu is pizza only and I am hoping to make it back to try that soon.
Read moreEdited to add: have also had the vegan Sunday roast and it is amazing. Courgette/aubergine/tomato wellington and a huge array of ‘proper’ veg, beautifully cooked. They had a vegan pud on as well (cheesecake) but sadly I didn’t have room to fit it in!

Great Pizza - Edit
This was always a favourite when I was at university and we visited again whilst on a trip. We shared a vegan half and half pizza. One side was the Vegan Classic and the other Vegan BBQ. Both were delicious and it was good value for money as the pizzas are huge. They also do a great selection of ciders.

Good value and delicious! - Edit
Lots of vegan options for pizza, which are delicious (vegan BBQ is my fave). Great value for money, pizzas range from about £9-13 and easily feed two - either share or ask for some tin foil to take home your leftovers! The vegan Sunday roast is also great - an amazing hangover cure! Only negative are that it’s a popular place and can get quite busy and noisy, and it’s often very hard to find a table!

lovely vegan roast - Edit
So good to be able to eat a roast lunch along side my vegetarian and omni children... and the red cabbage was gorgeous. Get there early, children over 10 welcome from 12 until 5pm I think.

The best vegan roast dinners and pizzas! - Edit
The Old Firehouse is popular with students and locals due to its wonderful atmosphere and great value food.
Read moreIt offers vegan options for lunch and dinner, with roast dinners during Sunday daytimes and a pizza menu from 8:30/9pm most evenings and from 5pm on Sundays.
The vegan roast is a favourite of mine - it's a roast veg, spinach and chickpea cake served with veg, potatoes and gravy - and it's delicious! During the rest of the week, the veggie chilli is amazing, but very spicy! In the evenings it's all about the vegan butternut squash pizza, which also includes spinach and chickpeas with vegan cheese. They're not toppings I would naturally put on a pizza, but it's one of the best I've had, and definitely the best vegan pizza I've eaten.
Even if you just pop in here for a drink, it's worth the visit because it's such a lovely venue. It does get very busy, and you can't reserve tables unless your a big group, however there are lots of large tables, so don't be scared to ask other diners to share their table - it's all part of the Firehouse experience!
Pros: Beautiful pub, Delicious vegan food, Very reasonably priced
Cons: Pizza only served late evening/night, Can't reserve tables for small groups, Can get very busy
