3.75/5 - Good selection and tasty food!

Update (3.75*): Since we last visited a couple of years ago they have removed a lot of their vegan options (as have many other restaurants). However, they still have a good vegan selection including multiple starters, mains and desserts. Their wine menu also has vegan labelling.

This time we went for the KFV Cauliflower Wings for Two, Wild Mushroom and Sage Gnocchi, Shroom BOOM! Loaded Fries and Biscoff Cheesecake. Note that all of these dishes are also available as non-vegan dishes, so clarify you want vegan.

The Cauliflower Wings were delicious! Crispy and flavoursome with lots of rich sauce (we chose Korean BBQ) and a creamy vegan crème fraiche, they were really good! The Biscoff Cheesecake was also really good - it had a strong Biscoff flavour and great texture. I also really enjoyed the pink (raspberry?) vegan ice cream that came with it. It was sweet and indulgent!

I also enjoyed the gnocchi and the loaded fries, although I was a little underwhelmed. They were both tasty, but could have had more flavour and better textures. Still good, but not in the same league as the cauliflower wings and the cheesecake.

Unfortunately the restaurant was also a bit on the cold side and our server wasn’t very warm (bordering on rude at times). However it’s still a lovely restaurant with tasty food, so worth a visit!

Original review (4*): The Herbalist is a really nice restaurant with great vegan options. The interior is very nice and the staff are welcoming and friendly.

They have a great vegan selection but we went on a Sunday so naturally me and my partner both went for the plant based "beef" roast, which came with roast potatoes and vegetables. The waiter asked if we were vegan as they also do Yorkshire puddings that contain cow milk, and he generously let us have extra roast potatoes as we couldn't eat the Yorkshires.

The roast was delicious! The "beef" was really tasty, as were the vegetables and the roast potatoes. It was also a really big meal and I felt very full after!

I am excited to come back another day and try their other options such as vegan fish and chips and sourdough pizza, as I reckon they will be delicious too.

Good choice for mixed diet dinning

A bit on the pricey side but food is good. Staff are friendly and helpful (depending on time of day you visit service isn't always quickest). Ordered Plant Based Sunday roast and the waiter asked if I was Vegan or vegetarian, so I think they are trying to address past complaints of cross contamination.

Watch out for the labelling

Many of the vegan options are cooked in the same oil as the meat and fish so make sure you ask when you order. There are few options that are cooked separately and these are nice. Staff are open about the menu and what's cooked separately.

Pros: Some nice vegan options, Great service

Cons: Some vegan options cooked with the meat/fish
