Sublime Vegan Afternoon Tea

A tearoom with a full understanding of how fabulous an afternoon tea can be for vegans! The Angel excels and nothing was missed out! Each of us received 3 tiers of delicious treats. There were 5 different, mouthwatering warm savouries, a selection of 4 different sandwiches with imaginative fillings, the last tier displayed 4 exquisite individual cakes, plus a further dish of fruits and finally, warm scones with cream and jam, the same for each of us and ALL VEGAN!
We really appreciated the efforts of talented chefs with exactly the imaginative approach we can only dream of, almost never found however, in most restaurants and tea rooms. The Angel demonstrates very capably, just how fabulous a vegan afternoon tea can be, nobody ever has to miss out.
The superb range of high quality unusual teas accompanying the food is spectacular too, skilfully chosen and well sourced, including very interesting blends in black leaf and green teas, along with lovely Oolongs, Pu Erh, Rooibos, a yellow tea, several of the best Japanese, including a lovely Gyokuro. Even a gorgeous blue flower tea which becomes purple, that’s a first! Herbal tisanes for anyone avoiding caffeine.
Every tea arrives beautifully presented, in glass or exquisite Japanese iron teapots.
We selected 5 different pots between 2 of us, the generosity of the tea matched the abundance of the food.
Finally, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and very professional.
The Wedgewood Room is elegant and feels well cared for.
This is a very special place for discerning tea enthusiasts, I can’t recommend it highly enough for vegan and of course vegetarian visitors.

Afternoon tea disaster

I’d recommend avoiding and I will not ever return. Ordered afternoon tea and asked no cucumber (hate the stuff). My afternoon tea comes out and there’s a cucumber sandwich… fine I gave it to my friend. We are chatting away and I pick up what I assume is a faux egg mayo sandwich didn’t think much of it took a bit, definitely not fake 🤢 had my omni friend confirm it was actually egg and then spotted abit of chicken on there too! Needless to say this put me on edge for everything single item on my plates. They send brought the scones out and served mine with real cream, completely and utter disaster and disappointment. When I mentioned to staff about the numerous failings I was just told they’d speak to the kitchen 😣 and offered nothing else even an apology! I then emailed in a complaint to which they were more sympathetic and offered a free afternoon tea, which is a completely waste as I don’t plan on returning.

Cons: Poor vegan knowledge , Expensive

Fantastic Vegan English High Tea

The Wedgewood Room at the Angel Hotel in Abergavenny is a complete gem in a sea of mediocrity. We took High Tea there for my partner's birthday which is a real treat for us as they were really switched on to Vegan diet. When we arrived all the staff were warm, friendly and welcoming but it was as we sat down that the extent of this experience became clear. My partner is a tea connoisseur and aficionado, including the Japanese Tea Ceremony, and with over 100 different teas in our tea cabinet was amazed and delighted with the quality and extensive choice of the teas on offer - including a some that even we did not have at home! We were also encouraged to have as many different teas as we could drink, or even want to try. The Vegan High Tea consisted of an excellent interesting selection of sandwiches, other savoury items such as tartlets, samosas and others plus a lovely selection of cakes (they have their own commercial bakery across the road) plus scones and jam. Amazing tea, amazing food, amazing staff, great atmosphere, a real experience - the best afternoon tea we have ever had in the UK and we have had countless! It is not cheap at GB£40 per person but is still great value for money.
