Full day cooking class

I signed up for the full-day class. They picked me up at my hotel, and when on the participants were on board, we stopped first at a local market before heading out to the produce farm for a full day of cooking. They accommodate most (all?) diets at the school. I chose a fully vegan menu. Instruction included a tour of the grounds, an explanation of ingredients in each dish, and hands on cooking experience. The classroom had 10 cooking stations protected by a roof from the elements but open on two sides. When cooking, I always want to go more in depth, so I was slightly disappointed that most prep work was done for us. There were two dedicated staff who cleaned and prepped for our class in addition to the instructor. I thoroughly enjoyed the cooking. Everyone made their own curry from scratch with a mortar and pestle. Altogether, each participant made (and ate) five dishes. In reality, we learned 15 dishes because there were multiple selections for each course of the meal, and the instructor demonstrated som tum (papaya salad) for us to taste. Our instructor, Wass, deserves a shout out. She’s quick witted, funny, and a great teacher.

I was disappointed with the focus on organic, chemical-free produce that there wasn’t a stronger commitment to plant-based diets. As the only vegan in the class, I was reluctant to ask where the meat was sourced from.

Excellent cooking experience

There are a lot of cooking classes in and around Chiang Mai but we went with them because they’re clearly vegan friendly, had good reviews, they visit a proper market & had a good website and communication.

They have tofu for the vegan protein and use soy sauce instead of fish sauce in recipes. You make 4 dishes: soup, curry, noodles/spring rolls and a dessert on the half day class. We made between us a Penang curry, Khao Soi, Tom kha soup, Tom yum soup, pad see ew, spring rolls and mango sticky rice (pandan & buttery pea versions). You have your own station, the instructions are clear and easy to follow & the pace was good. The environment was nice set in a garden and a big open air kitchen and separate eating areas. We had a good group too. Really enjoyed this experience

Delicious and educational

This is one of our favorite activities in Thailand. Our teacher was easy to understand and kind. The whole experience was orchestrated perfectly. There were options for vegans and level of spices. The farm is beautiful and well kept. We stopped at a market to see the ingredients we would be using and then we rode to the organic farm where our guide carefully explained each of the plants used in our cooking. Then the cooking. The stations were set with individual burners and supplies. We had three choices of each of the four courses. We ate in courses and the staff did the dishes! The morning was peaceful and really well done! I haven’t been to a cooking school before, but I can’t imagine one better.

Can’t recommend enough

The BEST cooking lesson here, we had so much fun and learnt so much. Definitely worth coming here to learn how to cook Thai food! Actual highlight of our trip in the north! Plus it is all fresh ingredients from the farm, all clean and organic.

YOU MUST BOOK THIS

Absolutely CANNOT recommend this enough. Everything you could possibly want! I did the half day evening course (I wanted to do the full day but they were full as I booked the day before, but I’d say the half day is absolutely enough!) and you go to the market, eat fresh herbs from their farm and learn about native Thai ingredients etc.. then the set up is so perfect. You all have your own station in a beautiful place. I was the only vegan, everyone else meat eaters, but it’s totally fine. There is the option to add egg at one point so I just didn’t. On the half day you make a soup, a curry, a noodle dish and a dessert. We were all in awe of how incredible the food was. Wass was our teacher and she was hilarious and friendly and her explanations were perfect. Do it do it!

Brilliant experience and food

This was a brilliant experience from start to finish. We were picked up from our hotel in a mini van around 3.30pm and stopped by a fruit and veg market before going on to the farm for the half day course.

All the explanations and tutorials were easy to follow and understand. The chefs spoke great English and we really did learn a lot. We were the only vegetarians and the chefs explained the differences. Everything was vegan other than the egg for the noodle dishes which could be omitted. Everyone had their own cooking station, pans and utensils so there was no cross contamination either.

It is well worth the money, you get transport to/from the city centre, a e-recipe book and to cook and eat the best Thai food we have ever eaten! We will definitely use what we have learned in this course when we return home!

Very qualitative class

I had an amazing experience, and a super cool teacher that answered all my questions and helped me with some shopping in the local market.

It’s super easy to veganise all the dishes and they let you freestyle based on how much spicy you like.

I definitely recommend the full day cooking class so you can try a lot of dishes.

To avoid food waste, I stopped eating one day before to have space for everything the following day😅, definitely worthy.

Also, the papaya salad will be made by the teacher and you can just remind about the fish sauce. They first did a portion for me and then for the rest of people

Pros: Teachers, Garden foods

Wonderful experience

The instructions are clear and precise, all of the food was delicious, the teacher was great, and the place was lovely.
It's not a vegan cooking class, but we had very clear instructions on which ingredients to choose to make everything vegan. There were a lot of other vegan people as well.
I highly recommend spending the day there if you're in Chiang Mai.

We did the full day course and had a lot of fun and also met nice people. Before you start cooking you will visit a local market and the organic farm. Making the dishes vegan was no problem, they have substitutes for oyster, fish sauce etc.
We loved, that we did our own curry oaste from scratch!
We can really recommend the school! Afterwards you get a recipe book😄

Brilliant experience

This cooking course was such a good experience. They picked us up from our hotel and took us to a market in the morning. We then went to the cooking school where they also grow vegetables and herbs. Our teacher Fah took us around and explained the ingredients we would be using. We cooked 5 dishes in total, springs rolls and made the curry paste from scratch. You have the option to bag up and take some of the food home with you. They were able to cater for vegan and vegetarian. They also give you a recipe book to take home. Such a wonderful experience.

Pros: Great teacher, Vegan and vegetarian alternatives, Recipe book to take home

Must do in Chiang Mai

I had a great day! I learned a lot about all the ingredients during the market visit and at the farm. We cooked delicious food and all dishes could be made vegan. The book with recipies is probably the best souvenir you can take home from a journey to Thailand.

Pros: beautiful farm with relaxing atmosphere, enthusiastic guide, delicious food and take home recipies

Great time

Great place to chill out and spend a full day on cooking.
The recipes in book provided at the course doesn't provide much information on techniques, timing, ingredients preparation, steps and even ingredients as well. So my advice is to get as much notes as possible with photo/video evidence as well.
Overall best cooking class in Thailand I have participated.
Please note that all clasess are mixed and your senses may be exposed to view and smell of non plant items as well.

Great thai cooking class

Relaxed and fun class with great tasting food. Prompt transportation to the market and course. Clean facilities. Plenty of time to relax between courses. Vegetarian and vegan friendly. They prep many things and do dishes so you can focus on learning. Includes small cookbook of everything so you don't have to take notes. We brought our 5 year old as a visitor and she had a great time too, helping occasionally, feeding the fish, coloring, etc - the staff was great with her. I'm still full 4 hours later. Highly recommended.
