Maybe 3.5/5? - Edit
This place was packed during lunch time
Read morefrom the outside it looks not popular or modern, but from the amount of people dining here it seems really popular
They have 12-3pm Dim Sum menu and that’s one of the reasons I was here! It’s fully vegetarian with mostly vegan options 🌱
The lunch special is special because of their Dim Sum 🥟 menu
I had some Lily Bulb mushroom steamed dumplings 🥟 to start
The other ones where sold out early! Unfortunately because of that they arrived straight after the main instead of in advance. Served freshly and with mushroms and some crunchy veg in as well! Very nice but could have been seasoned a bit more! Lacking salt
As main I had the Bean Curd Rolls with Black Bean Sauce. It was nice, but could have been a bit stronger in the taste as well.
They serve tea 🫖 (1.25$) and fill it up per person
Prices are good, but overall taste too bland
Pros: Fully vegetarian- lots of vegan options, Cheap, Authentic interior
Cons: Bland , Service stressed

Really great to have dim sum again - Edit
Haven’t really had a really good dim sum experience since going vegan few years back and wow it feels good to have it again and not feel like a leper ordering, staff was extremely welcoming and helpful to navigate the menu. Highly recommend!

Very good Beancurd - Edit
Their menu is extensive, some items are not vegan, identify yourself as vegan and the staff would know.
Read moreThe first review only reflects the two dishes I ordered: C23 and D2.
C23: Beancurd skin rolls & bitter melon with black bean sauce
D2: Beancurd sticks with mushroom balls hot pot
C23 was pretty standard taste, the skin of Beancurd skin rolls was sautéed just right, inner Beancurd was very soft, but lacked juiciness. Bitter melon and bell pepper were chunky.
D2 was slightly different than my expectation, I couldn’t tell if the processed mock meat were actually mushroom balls. Don’t get me wrong, it tasted good, I also liked the bamboo shoots. but I missed the aroma of actual mushroom balls. I only managed to find a few slices of real shiitake mushroom.
I would definitely visit again.

Authentic veg Chinese - Edit
One of my families new favourite restaurants! The menu is super extensive and contains nearly all vegan options (watch out for some menu items with egg and desserts with milks!). My personal fav is their fried rice super delicious and also the gluten platter.

Thanks! Helpful review. Was looking at their menu and having trouble knowing what's vegan. In your experience are the dishes that contain egg labeled in the menu or should I call and ask? Looks delicious.

Great - Edit
Vegetarian and vegan, loved the food and energy of the place. My curry noodle was pretty lackluster but my bbq buns were great, would come back to this place anytime and recommend it to a friend. Cant say it enough, support this type of place over some gentrifier yoga vegan food.

Cons: Pricey? Idk, Not vegan, my server was very aware what was

We'll be back but at a less busy time - Edit
We almost left because, despite arriving early (11:20am) on a Sunday and having answered that we did mind sharing a table and would go across the street to the Po Kong if they could not accommodate us, they sat two other couples at our table after taking our order. Perhaps this was a language/communication thing rather than a deliberate ploy (they also got one of orders wrong - though quickly and cheerfully corrected it). Anyway, the food was large portions and delicious and we'll definitely go back though probably at a less busy time

Tasty generous servings - Edit
Nice and quiet place, with lovely staff. The menu is extensive, it takes a life to choose! We tried several dishes (honestly, too many because servings are very generous): fried taro dumplings, tasty and original; steamed vegan shrimps dumplings, filling and light; vegan pork slices, good; curry noodles, very good; vegan seafood and tofu hot clay, excellent. Everything was tasty, filling and vegan. We recommend it.

Creative Sun Bo Kong Vegetarian - Edit
Sun Bo Kong is the more recently opened of two competing vegetarian Chinese restaurants across the street from one another. As others have noted, the menus are extremely similar.
Read moreHow spoiled we Vancouver vegans are to be able to waste our time trying to determine which restaurant is better. Both owners are wonderful, both restaurants have friendly, helpful staff, and both menus are delicious. It is hard to imagine ordering anything that would disappoint and there are so many menu items that delight.
One thing that is genius at Sun Bo Kong is the new combo plates for one. No longer must a solo diner decide between a massive helping of bean curd skin rolls in black bean sauce and a massive helping of spicy green beans. Combo plates mean solo diners can enjoy a modest helping of a number of dishes. Few Chinese restaurants offer this option for solo diners—brilliant! And these combo plates are big enough to share.
I predict Sun Bo Kong will continue to surprise us with exciting menu developments.
Pros: excellent food, friendly staff, combo plates for one
Cons: busy and crowded for dim sum, across the street from almost identical restaurant, menu differs little from competitor

Go to for Dim Sum cravings - Edit
I go here for dim sum cravings. It’s definitely not the best dim sum out there, but it’s the only one that I know of that’s veg. If you’re craving good old dim sum, this would be the place to go.

The Best Buddhist Vegan - Edit
I have eaten here many times and am never disappointed. The food is always fresh and delicious and good quality. The menu is technically vegetarian, but there are only perhaps 3 dishes that have egg in them. Be sure to ask the server to check with the chef -- the servers themselves rarely know! I have taken many non-veg friends there, and their reactions are always 'wow', and they turn out to be repeat customers. I see there is a photo of mango pudding: BEWARE! It contains evaporated or condensed milk!

Another Great Veg Option For East Vancouver - Edit
I've been a loyal fan of the various Bo Kong restaurants since they first opened their doors in Richmond. While it is true that there is the Po Kong across the street that offers a similar menu, I am impressed that the dim sum offering here looks to be more extensive. I came to Sun Bo Kong for dinner and was not able to order from the dim sum menu. However, I can state the food off the regular menu was tastier and more beautifully presented than what I have been accustomed at Po Kong. Ken Chau is the owner and he has always provided a warm and friendly presence in the dining room. Ken is happy to personally walk you through the menu, to offer recommendations and to take your order. You will not find a more gracious host.

Great food and service - Edit
Read moreThis restaurant is right across from the Po Kong on Kingsway near Knight; both are run by brothers, who had the very popular Bo Kong at 15th & Main years ago. The food is excellent, the service is good. Very glad to have this added choice as these restaurants are always busy, and understandably so!
Pros: Good value, Well prepared food, Good presentation

Authentic veg chinese - Edit
I can not say enough about how delicious and authentic this place is! Took my extremely traditional Chinese meat eating father here and he loved it. The dim sum is off the hook. Sorry to Po Kong and their followers but this place is thousands of times better.

The spring rolls tho - Edit
I am not sure why they decided to open this right across Po Kong, another veggie restaurant with almost identical menu. We decided to give it a try even tho Po Kong is our jam . The food was pretty good with the exception of the spring rolls. They were awful. (Spring rolls are one of my favourite foods, so.....). The place is very chaotic, everyone seems very confused and doesn't know what's going on, but this could be because it just opened). I probably won't come back because well the spring roll thing is a deal breaker for me).
