Just ok - Edit
The experience we had here was OK. Nothing mind-blowing, just comforting Japanese food. I ordered the Mapo Tofu Donburi with brown rice and it came with a generous portion of tofu and braised mushroom sauce, but it was not spicy at all; I had to add a lot of pepper to bring out the flavor I wanted. I also found it to be a bit more oily than I would prefer, but that’s just me.
Read moreThe restaurant is about as nice as you would expect from a small Japanese restaurant in LA, and even has a parking lot (supposedly costs $5 but nobody was charging when I visited). One weird thing, though, is that they tell you when you come in that you cannot use their restroom, and there are signs posted throughout the restaurant to that effect. Service was good if not particularly personable.
Pros: Comforting Japanese food
Cons: No bathroom

Tucked-away vintage Japanese place - Edit
Small but clearly marked vegan menu- an Udon noodle soup, a yakisoba noodle, a MaPo Don, and a tomato base Ramen. I had the MaPo bowl, which comes with a ramekin of seaweed salad- it’s savory and delicious, with slightly sticky rice. Super good. Recommend if you’re in Chinatown.

Dinner - Edit
This is the Chinatown location and smaller version (mini) of Suehiro Cafe. Each time I’ve been, it has been easy to get a seat. Was happy to find 4 highlighted vegan items on the menu. Wait staff was helpful in showing additional vegan items. Food came quickly. Udon and yakisoba were great.
