Good but could improve

Pretty good tasty food. Really enjoyed the Shu Mai and tofu skin. The curry cauliflower was disappointing in that there was not enough curry. They also brought us lukewarm tea. It took them way too long to bring hot tea. Otherwise we like it and will return

Mostly happy

I ordered a meal from Su Xing House when I was in Philadelphia a couple weeks ago, and overall I enjoyed it, although I wasn't blown away.

I got a couple items, but the one I was most interested in was the sesame tofu, just because this is my default order from my favorite vegan Chinese restaurant (Ma Ma Wok in Charlotte) and I wanted to do a comparison of sorts. Ultimately, I wasn't super thrilled with the Su Xing House sesame tofu, not because it was *bad* but just because it was somewhat underwhelming in the flavor category.

The other items I ordered were more impressive. In particular, I really enjoyed the little scallion pancakes with the ginger sauce. I get the feeling that this is the sort of place where the menu is so huge that there's always going to be some variance in quality, and in retrospect I wish I had read some of the reviews here first before choosing a main dish. Based on how much I enjoyed their sides, I'm sure they have some more tasty mains than what I got.

Also wanted to mention that the service was good and the guy I talked to was very friendly when I picked up my order.

Pros: Tasty side options, Good service

Cons: Wasn't thrilled by my main dish

Loved it

We had the soy protein cutlets with Spinach, the protein was a 5-spice flavor. Delicious. We had eggplant with Yuba, which was great, we just added a little salt and the restaurant is fully confident in its abilities and doesn't mind having a salt shaker on the table. Then we ordered baby bok choy with tofu, which was so good. I am definitely coming back on my next trip through Philadelphia!

Pros: Tasty

Cons: Heart of the city, so--parking

We came back 2 weeks later. The "Jade and Gold" soy protein cutlets with spinach wasn't quite as good. The cutlets were great, but the spinach wasn't seasoned as much. We also got the Soy nuggets Szechuan style which were good, but they contained PEANUTS. thank goodness our son was not with us, because he's peanut allergic. We don't recall that peanuts were on the menu, but we may not have studied it closely. Overall, remails very good!

Great Chinese Vegan Food

I LOVE this restaurant! The menu is all vegan unless it is a marked as vegetarian. It was so great to have so many choices. I had the spring roll and the “Peking duck” which was amazing. It was served with bao buns. (The waitress made sure the naps were vegan) They serve big portions. . I wish I were still hungry- I would like to try more dishes!

Pros: Loads of vegan options, Serve tea with the meal

Quick place to Pop In

Nothing fancy here but the service was efficient and the food tasty. At the server’s suggestion I ordered the lunch combo - seitan, steamed broccoli, rice, spring roll and hot & sour soup. $17 USD so a steal in downtown Philly.

It was all good. Loved the seitan so much we got extra to take out for lunch tomorrow. The bottomless jasmine tea is a nice touch.

The sauces!

Nice place with sauces that define the dish. Scallion pancakes were great. Spring rolls were light and fresh. Fav was the Golden rings (with rice for vegan).

Hot & Sour Soup was Great

Hot & Sour Soup was very good.... I wish it came in Gallons. Been a long time since I had it, as New Harmony closed & I miss their complimentary big bowls of soup for a group. Priced at $4.25 it was a bit over, as I could of ordered 10 of these dish's.

A treasure!

Absolutely love this place and So glad to have it within a few blocks of my apartment.

My go to is the General Tso’s Seitan (ask for it to be made vegan rather than just vegetarian). It’s for sure my fave but I also enjoy the Eggplant Tofu w/ garlic sauce.

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Be sure to clarify vegan. Enjoy!

Pros: Tons of vegan options., So delicious!

Some menu items incorrectly labeled vegan

Previously, their milk tea was soymilk based, and their cheese was soy cheese. They've switched to cow milk and cow cheese (as of 2019) even on items that are labeled otherwise (they have not updated their menu). For example, the "soy cheese crab wontons" now use cow cheese.

Other than this issue, I LOVE this restaurant and come here frequently! It's delicious!

Sad to say everything was flavorless!!

I went to Su Xing after a friend’s recommendation and reading about how delicious it was on multiple online platforms. I am shocked to say all 3 dishes were completely flavorless! I asked the nice lady that worked there if I could get everything vegan and gluten free, and she said yes- 95% is vegan, and they have gluten free sauces they can use too!

I got the General Tso’s tofu, vegetable fried rice, and broccoli with garlic sauce. The tofu didn’t have any flavor at ALL. The broccoli tasted boiled, no seasoning, just completely bland. Garlic sauce tasted like nothing. And the veggie fried rice was so boring I wanted to cry. It had only a few peas, tiny shredded carrots, broccoli, and tiny baby corn nubs. It was so lackluster, like something you buy pre-made. I could cook a fried rice so much better than this one!! I am wondering if everything was flavorless because they did not use their regular soy sauce that contains gluten?? That certainly can’t be the star of every dish?? I’m just completely surprised based on all the 5 star reviews. So sad! I hope it was just an off day?

Pros: Vegan options, Gluten-free options , Kind staff

Cons: Flavorless , No seasoning , Boring

I am wondering if you had Covid? It can cause a loss of taste and because the complete lack of flavor was so striking, it might have been a possibility

Amazing tofu

I have a crippling addition to the General Tso’s tofu here, it is INCREDIBLE. Very solid spot for takeout and also has a cool atmosphere indoors to dine with friends or a date (assuming a global pandemic isn’t shutting the world down). On the window outside they have news clippings boasting about their restaurant, can keep you entertained if you’re waiting for takeout.

Pros: The art of tofu has been mastered here

Tasty and even non-vegan friends love it

There are plenty of vegan dishes. Just make sure the wait staff knows your dietary requirements and they will help you choose a great dish. My husband follows a vegan no-oil diet and loves the options.

Great portions!

I got the rice noodles with veggie dish, and the sauteed bok choy. The flavor was great not under salted and not over salted. The noodles were cooked very well. The menu was unclear on what items were or could be made vegan. After asking the server I received a great response by her. She immediately started telling me what dishes were already vegan and what dishes could be modified.

Pros: Great taste!, Fast service!, Aware of there own menu!

Cons: Unclear menu!

Great food, not so great service

Going to a Chinese restaurant with a vast vegetarian menu was a true delight! Don't expect much from the service - our server wasn't very patient and there were only a few tables occupied! Plan ahead if you want to BYOB. I didn't find any obvious options for beer and the waiter didn't have any suggestions. All this is to say that you should definitely go, but have lower expectations from service.

Love this place!

This is my go to spot in Philly! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you walk in, you know these folks mean business. The food is always fantastic! Many vegan options. Most of my omni-friends enjoy it too. :)
The hot tea is the best!

Pros: Vegan options, Atmosphere, Large menu

Nice Vegetarian Combinations

I liked the texture of their general tso's seitan and how the sweet corn mixed with the brown rice. Allen and Cindy also provided prompt and friendly service.
