Will never return - Edit
There used to be more vegan options on the menu, but now there’s just fries and vegan pizza.
Read moreOn the last visit we were given a pizza that clearly had dairy on it and the staff insisted it was vegan. Vegan cheese does not stretch - and Nu Dairy, which they claimed it was, definitely doesn’t. I will never go back given how the staff acted - mistakes happen, but own it, don’t argue with customers about it.

Please read this review. - Edit
It’s incredibly frustrating that this place offers dairy-free cheese but mistakenly served a pizza with regular cheese instead. When I questioned it, they insisted it was dairy-free.
Read moreAfter pressing them further, they admitted the cheese had been decanted into tubs and couldn’t provide the original packaging. Instead, they showed me a picture of the cheese on a laptop—ironically, the same Nudairy cheese we regularly use at home and in our pizza oven. We know it well, and it does not have the stretchy texture of regular mozzarella, which was clearly what was on our pizza. (As anyone on here knows we can clearly tell the difference between genuine and vegan cheese.)
Despite this, the staff continued to argue. I had to put a stop to it by saying, “I’m not arguing about it.” They made a mistake, and they need to take it more seriously—especially when allergies are involved.
EDIT: I originally posted this review on their Google listing, and the owner responded by falsely accusing me of assaulting one of their teenage staff. This is a complete lie and an appalling attempt at defamation. After I contacted Tracy from Nelson, who manages Spring & Fern locations across NZ, they deleted their response.
This is not a business that deserves our support, especially when this is how they handle legitimate complaints. I’m shocked that instead of addressing the issue professionally, they resorted to making false accusations against me.
Nine of the ten current photos on this listing are from our past visits—my partner uploaded them. In fact, I’m fairly certain we were the ones who originally listed it on Happy Cow.
We used to love this place under the previous owners, especially because they were dog-friendly. Unfortunately, the new owner is neither honest nor ethical based on this response.
I genuinely think the owner thinks they served vegan cheese and done the best they could so has responded on the defensive. Perhaps this happened at chef level, but the way this has been handled is terrible.

Previous Reviews Have No Bearing on What Is Now Offered - Edit
Unfortunately, the previous reviews in 2019 are from old chefs, and previous owners and are not relevant to the current business. The new owners have tried to contact Happy Cow to have them removed but they show no interest in doing so. Along with burger and usual pizza offerings which are vege/vegan friendly our menu now contains a Summer Greek Salad, Stuffed Kumara and Arancini.

Cons: Shame Happy Cow won't allow old reviews 2b deleted, when they have no relevance 2 the current business

Better vegan selection than most bars - Edit
We had the vegetarian pizza with vegan cheese and shared fries and samosas. The pizza would have been enough so very happy with the portion sizes. Good quality pizza. Staff were friendly and efficient. Recommend a visit for vegan, vego or omni.

A fair amount of vegan options - Edit
Went here for dinner and a pint. All wines are clearly labelled vegan and pints I think were all vegan. Had a gorgeous vegetarian pizza which can be made with vegan cheese - I was disappointed they didn’t have any vegan cheese when I went in, BUT to be honest with you the pizza was so fantastic that it didn’t even need it!
