Great selection

Great selection of items in a cute setting. I did find the prices to be a little steep for some things, but that might just be NYC pricing at play...

Favorite restaurant

My favorite restaurant in the city!! Cannot go wrong with the green beans and I love the dry pepper style tofu. This location is small, so it’s best for small groups if you’re dining in (make a reservation) and great for takeout. They serve beer and wine but not hard alcohol/liquor at this location.

Pros: Quick service, Amazing food

Bom pra caralhho

Pros: Wanton, Kung pao

All-Vegan Chinese Cuisine

I think what Spicy Moon are doing is great, especially for offerings in the vegan community. Very friendly staff, and welcoming setting.

The portions are quite large, I did get a few goes out of the one rice dish that I ordered (Sichuan Rice w/ added Vegan Sausage) which I think came to about $27.

I was surprised by the prices, it was more expensive than I was expecting.

Given that the portions are large, I would recommend coming here / taking out for groups of 3-4 or more.

There were lots of menu items I really liked the look of, but I had to limit my choice and I’m glad that I did.

Pros: Friendly staff and cost setting, All vegan, wide variety of dishes, large portions

Cons: Pricey, especially with extras, Best suited for leftovers / repeat meals, or larger groups for sharing

comida rica y porciones razonables

La comida estaba muy buena y los
platos eran generosos. Precios razonables. Algunos tienen un ambiente politizado. Este del East side no tanto.

Great food, overly loud music

Really enjoyed the dumplings in chili sauce, wonton soup, and mapo tofu. Delicious! Music was too loud to be conducive to good conversation.

Amazing lunch

Had the lunch offer, massive portions and delicious food inc tempura and dumplings. Already been to two different branches (and I don’t live in New York) and would happily go again.

Lives up to the hype

The dan dan noodles were life changing. I can’t wait to go back.

Best!

This meal was amazing! The scallion pancake was flakey and light. The wonton is chili oil was so delicate and spicy. We also got the Mapo Tofu which was more than two people needed. The tofu was a perfect and soft consistency and though listed as spicy to feel like just the right amount. Soooooo good!!

Pros: Great food - so flavorful, Great service , Cool atmosphere

So far not a fan

I ordered food and probably didn't order the right thing. So far I can not understand the hype. Perhaps if I ate at the restaurant I would like it better.

Pros: That everything is vegan

Deciduous and flavorful 😋 😋

Had to pick up my food in a hurry but it was wonderfully flavorful and delicious when I finally got a chance to sit down and enjoy it!

Reliable lunch

I’ve been here a few times now. There are still loads of things left to try on the menu. Always a solid meal, just mind how much you order; some dishes are small and some are very big! Today I particularly liked the Scallion Pancake.

Pros: Good, quick service

Delicious

Recommend the Crispy eggplant small plate, Mapo tofu with beyond beef and 3 cup vegetable (which contained tofu, lotus root, pepper, broccoli, greens, etc)

Great dim sum

Dumplings in chili oil definitely the highlight. We had a couple small plates, all good. Great server. Some of the dishes tasted like they added a bit too much sugar, but overall a great meal.

Pros: Dumplings in chili oil, Green Beans

Cons: Small place

Not allergy-friendly

This restaurant has great reviews but there were basically 0 options if you are sesame-free. It was really disappointing. I ended up getting a very average vegetable fried rice and cumin fries. If you have allergies, I would avoid Spicy Moon.

Awful atmosphere. Worse service.

Do not go here if you intend to have a conversation during dinner. They keep the music at dance club volume levels.

My server assured me twice that what I was ordering did not contain scallions. When my food came out full of scallions, he said he couldn’t send it back or modify any dishes because the chef didn’t speak English. So I spent 15min picking scallions out of my food like an idiot.

If you have any kind of food allergy or intolerance, avoid this place. They won’t give you accurate information about ingredients and won’t make any modifications.

I would rate this place 1 star if HC would let me.

Wow!

Got the lowest tier tasting menu and WOW. Delicious, so much food and definitely worth the money. Cocktails are $17-20!!! Delicious but too expensive in my opinion.

Pros: Variety , Vibe of restaurant

Cons: Cocktails are too expensive

Top notch!

Loved everything we had at Spicy Moon. We were in town visiting friends last week. Absolutely wonderful experience. Food was all amazing.
Personally the crab ragoon got me. Haven't had that since returning to being vegan.
Highly recommend. Seriously.

Oh the wait staff and kitchen collaborated to accommodate a friend of our food allergy. Mad props for them being able to do this. They did it so low key. Much appreciated.

Pros: Amazing flavor, All vegan, Great staff

Tudo muito gostoso

Pedimos porções pequenas para dividir. Tudo muito gostoso. Mais do que adaptar, recria os pratos tradicionais brilhantemente.

Well-made!

I ordered Spring Rolls, Lo Mein, and Wontons in Chili Oil. All were delicious.

Pleasantly surprised to find the veggies in the Lo Mein are fresh! Yum!

The best of the spicy moons

I frequent the Washington square spicy moon quite often but decided to give this location a try recently and was completely shocked. The flavors are so much more developed and complex at this location than the others! Absolutely incredible, and outdid the other location by a long shot. I will say, it is the smallest of the 3 locations, and the oldest, and so the atmosphere is not as exciting as the other locations (you know what I mean if you’ve been to another spicy moon). I have tried a LOT of veg restaurants in the city, and this spicy moon reigns supreme as my favorite.

Our favorite dish was the spicy eggplant, however the dan dan noodles (ask for extra spice) was a close second. I also loved the salt and pepper tofu!

Pros: Food was so good!!!!, Quaint and comfortable, Kind staff

Cons: Felt like we were getting rushed to eat, No alcohol (not a problem for me, I don’t drink), A wee bit expensive
