Tasty curry! - Edit
I went for the $20 Curry night on Tuesday and had a delicious vegan duck Thai Red Curry.

Just so you know, there is a vegan Thai restaurant one minutes' walk along Brunswick Street called Madame K's and they serve a great duck red curry 😋 Same delicious food without your money going towards the slaughter and abuse of animals. Plus if we spend our money at vegan restaurants they are less likely to close down 😀

By the way, the curry is $18 at Madame K’s!

Great food, friendly staff - Edit
Visiting from Sydney with my boyfriend for our anniversary and loved the food! Normally not a tofu fan but the sticky tofu is a must ☺️ staff were also super friendly and attentive. Shoutout to Louis and to Zoe who helped explain the MiKi/ free tram system for us.

bit special - Edit
Been spying on the Rice Paper Scissors vegan menu for a while now. It changes seasonally so, again, the dishes listed in the listing here may not be on the menu when you visit. But there always seems to be a mix of snacky finger foods, stir fries, curries, and salads.
Read moreThe staff are attentive but not overbearing, I liked that they described each dish in detail when they served it. I did notice that they seem encouraged to up sell. They’re not pushy about it though.
Our waiter suggested we share 5 dishes for $40 pp but we were on our way to see a show and not feeling like a huge dinner. So we shared 3 dishes and steamed rice between 2 of us and that was plenty. My favourite was the stir fried greens with mock pork belly ($20). We also enjoyed a spicy, fresh, zesty mock duck and cabbage salad ($16) and a rich, creamy yellow curry with silky eggplant (also $16).
Definitely keen to go back and try more, maybe for a quieter weekday lunch when you can try 5 dishes for $35 pp. It’s a busy, vibey place with low light and loud music. Nice for a date or slightly special dinner.

Degustation was good - Edit
Only went here once for the 10 course degustation and it was really good. The flavours were really inventive and honestly it was a good price for the amount of food you get.

Fusion food find - Edit
I've been here a couple of times now for the vegan degustation. I probably wouldn't have wandered in, if it were not for these events with so many amazing options nearby.
Read moreBut RPS is noteworthy. The food was interesting, with a good variety of textures and flavours. Each dish beautifully plated. The cocktail list is also pretty good, albeit a bit expensive ($21 for a pandan colada). Check for the vegan options.
The service was friendly but the noise levels are pretty high. On the occasion where it was only two of us, that didn't cause too much of an issue. But for a larger group it was a lot of effort to simply have a conversation.

VEGA-STATION - all-vegan degustation at Rice paper scissors in Melbourne - Edit
I made a spontaneous decision to go to Melbourne so I started to research which restaurants to go to. After I arrived, I found Rice Paper Scissors.Rice Paper Scissors is a restaurant that embraces much-loved Asian street food. This place is not completely vegan but offers a great vegan menu. There are two restaurants, one in the CBD and another in Fitzroy – Melbourne’s vegan capital. I was staying in the CBD so I was about to book a table at their CBD restaurant, but I found out about their Fitzroy location's Vega-station, a 10-course vegan degustation which cost $45 (such a bargain!).
Read moreThe event happens once a month (only at Fitzroy) and it was luckily on the day after I arrived (it was meant to be)! I got so so excited about my luck - being in Melbourne when a special monthly vegan degustation happens, so I rushed to book online (they only take online bookings) and realised it was FULLY BOOKED - [censored]!But I did not stop here. Being overly keen, I emailed to ask if there were any last minute cancellations and that I would be happy to come as soon as the restaurant opened at 11:30am - which was not peak time. As it was a Saturday morning, I thought that not so many people would want to eat a 10-course vegan degustation so early in the morning, right?

Rice Paper Scissors Rock! - Edit
Vegan menu has a stunning selection of Southeast Asian food (and we're talking real Southeast Asian food, like Ma Hor and Tea Leaf Salad), all of which were super delicious. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Dope vibe. (FYI we chose 5 dishes to share for $29.50 per person, which we think is great value.)
