Riccardo's Italian Restaurant - 2.25 Stars

I ate at Riccardo's Italian Restaurant just before the pandemic and was limited to a vegan pomodoro. It was fine but not something that had ever made me want to go back given there are so many restaurants in London offering the same dish.

Rude staff, poor food

Ordered a dish that turned out to be just dry pasta with some mushrooms thrown in. When I asked the waiter if something could be done about it, he shrugged and shouted at me that it was vegan and what did I expect and then just stood there and stared at me. I requested some tomato pasta sauce to improve the dish, which he did bring but charged me extra for.

We had to wait half an hour to order and ages to pay, they didn’t pay attention to us until we stood by the till by the door ready to leave.

Simple great food

Good vegan menu, could order as small or large plates. We had Tagliolini with truffle and mushrooms and it’s was delicious. Side of potatoes and tender stem broccoli.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Good atmosphere, Friendly staff

Cons: A touch expensive

Really Tasty Italian Food

COVID UPDATE -
Currently running a limited menu with no vegan options.

This is our go to restaurant if we’re in London. Lots of great vegan options. The food is excellent authentic Italian food for very reasonable prices, especially for the area.

Awful Service

There were plenty of positives:
- there was a separate vegan menu (but see below)
- It's nice inside
- It's reasonably priced for the area
- The food was good

But the service was terrible. The staff started off being friendly. They provided the vegan menu, which was extensive, but it didn't distinguish between starters and mains. It says "some portions are starter size". It'd have been helpful to know which ones. Those choosing from the main menu can choose between various sizes, so vegans aren't treated equally here.

The waitress asked whether to serve the bruschetta before the spaghetti; we went for the latter. The wait between courses was 50 minutes while we saw six tables receive several courses each. They clearly forgot, but offered no apology.

I politely pointed out how long we had waited and asked them to remove the 12.5% service charge that they add to the bill. A revised bill arrived; I say arrived - it was slammed on the table by the blonde waitress (the others were friendly).

So although the food was good, I really didn't enjoy the experience so it's only one star.

Pros: Decent food, Nice inside

Cons: Bill slammed down rudely, Lazy attempt at a vegan menu, 50 minute wait between courses

Pretty standard Italian

They have a vegan menu which is great. The options on it are mostly things you could request in any Italian restaurant (e.g pasta in tomato sauce, pasta with olive oil and sun dried tomatoes, grilled vegetables, avocado and tomato), quite basic and quite pricey.

Pros: Vegan and gluten free menu

Cons: Expensive, Food is nothing particularly special

18 years eating here & counting

I'm vegan. I'm healthy. And I eat here a few times a week. Awesome relaxed food and atmosphere where carnivores, pasta lovers, vegans and vegis can eat. There's a vegi and vegan menu btw....

Cons: none.

disappointing dinner

I was pleased to find an Italian I could actually go with my non vegan friends. Unfortunately when my order turned up it wasn't what I expected, it was a really small salad. I didn't find the vegan menu that clear as there is one list of dishes and either there are no vegan starters or there isn’t any real distinction between what is meant to be a main or starter in terms of size and price. So perhaps it was just an overpriced starter I ordered?!

In fairness they took it away and made me a pizza instead. This was basically a pizza that omitted the non vegan elements. This approach to vegan food for me is lacking. The pizza was disappointing and I had to cover it in olive oil to give it some taste.

At the start of the meal we also had to repeat three times that we wanted some tap water to the waitress. She still brought bottled water and we were charged for it.

I didn’t see any vegan desserts. It does mention coconut milk can be requested on the desert menu. They cater for wheat and gluten free diets also.

Pros: Italian vegan options normally a rarity

Cons: some dishes are overpriced, the vegan pizza isn't good

An Italian that caters well for vegans

I have had many a superb meal here with family and friends.
The restaurant is on The Fulham Road in Chelsea, for those who don't know London, it is in an affluent area and the clientele and feel of Riccardos reflect this. All the dishes I have tried are authentic and well presented, my favorite Is the Penne Pomodoro Basilico and the Linguine Funghi Di Bosco is great too. There is an excellent choice of wines and sprits. The staff are good, attentive but not too intrusive.
Being Vegan it's rare to find a restaurant that caters so well for vegans as well as doing all the traditional meat dishes. Although some vegans may feel uncomfortable as lots of "traditional Italian meat dishes" such as Veal, appear on the non-vegan menu, I feel uncomfortable myself, but as a compromise on somewhere to go with non-vegan friends or family, Riccardo's it fits the bill.
The only let down that I feel the vegan menu has is that at present there are no vegan deserts, and no soya milk available…but I have recently spoken to Riccardo himself about this. He has a very hands on approach to his business and you will often see him in the restaurant. He is a friendly and easy to talk too, and is very interested in service. So fingers crossed there will be some vegan desert options and soya milk available soon.

Pros: An Italian that caters well for vegans, Large vegan menu, Great location

Cons: No vegan deserts, but hopefully soon!, No soya milk available , Serves Veal!
