Should not be on this site - Edit
This restaurant turned their back on veganism and went to the opposite extreme, now serving corpses and their excretions. It should not be listed as a vegan-safe establishment anymore as this would give the wrong idea.
Read moreI and many vegans I know would not feel comfortable having food prepared in a kitchen that was formerly completely safe from accidental non-vegan contamination and now chooses profit over ethics and dignity.
Would give zero stars if possible but HappyCow told me "One star is automatically granted in support of fully vegan or vegetarian listings." How disappoiniing that this is no longer true.

Pros: We found out quickly so didn't have to witness, Somebody order a plate of murder, Literally nothing else
Cons: Do I even need to explain?, Profit over ethics, Two weeks ago they supported vegan activism

Not good! - Edit
When Prana was a vegan cafe, it was OK - good cakes, average food and expensive - but nice to have a fully vegan cafe. Now, they have pivoted to pushing animal products as much as possible on in restaurant and in their marketing, too - it was particularly odd when they claimed this was for 'inclusivity'. Their overall quality has declined and it's still as overpriced as ever. Don't go here.

Sad to visit again as 2 years ago it was vegan, but now it’s not. The vegan menu is nice but I’m disappointed

Nice vegan cafe - Edit
We use Prana quite regularly mainly for a coffee & cake, or their nice vegan full English breakfast.
Read moreThe staff/owners are always lovely and welcoming
Their coffee is really nice and tastes far better than what Starbucks/Costs etc use.
They do vegan and non-vegan food/drinks but use completely separate equipment (eg ovens) for both.
They used to be pure vegan but I understand that it wasn't getting enough business to survive so they had to diversify - if we want our pure vegan restaurants to survive we need to support them and spread the word that they exist 😉
Situated in Leicester's town hall square, we'd recommend a visit.

Vegan menu - Edit
Been coming here for years so it’s weird to see meat being served now. There is still a full vegan menu, enjoyed the breakfast and the almond croissant was great

Prana Cafe offers a comprehensive vegan menu and one of the best in Leicester. - Edit
Prana Cafe offers a comprehensive vegan menu and one of the best in Leicester. The vegan food is excellent and I would recommend it. Was disappointed to see Prana serve non-vegan food. They put this decision down to a low vegan footfall over last few years along with a rise in cost of living which was impacting their cash-flow and were facing the possibility of closure. Having been a pure Vegan Cafe for almost 5 years, they want to respect their vegan options and are taking extra precautions to prevent any cross contamination with their non-vegan options.

No longer vegan - Edit
Used to be a favourite of mine but last time I went they were playing music so loud that I went outside, my cake was dry and the service slow. Then they got a 1 ⭐️ hygiene mark and now they’ve added meat. So I definitely won’t ever go again and I’d urge all vegans to stay away until they sort themselves out.

Disappointing - Edit
Euuugh, disappointing they now serve meat and dairy. If you can survive lockdown as a vegan cafe you should be able to make it. Yes they were a bit expensive but the food was nice and I was happy supporting a vegan business. They've lost their USP now

Really loved the food here. Amazing menu with loads of options and everything was really tasty yet didn't feel unhealthy.
Read moreI really recommend the Buddha Rice Bowl with vegan meatballs.
The coffee was great too (they use Square Mile roasters).
Genuinely one of the best places I've eaten - loved it so much we had to go twice despite being in Leicester for less than 24 hours.

Pretty expensive but the food is tasty and is made with proper ingredients (i.e. not ultra-processed). I highly recommend the Buddha bowl with tofu. Yum.

Overpriced - Edit
From other reviews I looked forward to eating at Prana Cafe, though I was left feeling disappointed with the quality and price. I ordered a burger and while the patty tasted great, if I'm paying £11 for a burger, I want it to be elevated with more toppings - it definitely didn't look like a £11 meal.

Top Banana, Prana - Edit
Situated in a prestigious location next to the Town Hall Gardens, it’s like walking into a posh London or Bombay tea room with its highly decorative ceilings, plush comfy chairs, piano and soft music.
Read moreIt’s got a great menu with a good choice for breakfast as well as Indian food, pizzas and burgers etc. What it’s really famous for is it’s wide range of loose leaf teas and artisan coffees with cake. I was there for breakfast …
Full Vegan Breakfast with Toast £9.50 - Grilled vegan sausages and vegan bacon, organic scrambled tofu, organic baked beans, roast portobello mushroom and tomato with fresh spinach. I simply couldn’t fault it at all.
Rooibos Tea £2.95. In loose leaf it’s prefect to accompany breakfast. Made from the red bush it has no tannins so it doesn’t get bitter. Letting it brew for a good 7 mins meant it brought out the woody notes to complement the sweetness and almost nuttiness of a perfect cuppa.
Would I go back? Every year when I visit to watch the Snooker Shootout.
Would I recommend? Having tried other places like Cosy Club, etc. it’s the perfect place for breakfast and afternoon tea.
Pros: Good choices, Delicious food, Amazing teas and coffees
Cons: Expensive but worth it

Highly recommend - Edit
We went to Prana Cafe to try some pizza and a milkshake, and they far exceeded our expectations! the pizza was loaded with toppings and melty vegan cheese. It was £10 and we were a family of 5. the staff actually gave us another one on the house as it was relatively small for the number of people!! impeccable service - so friendly and generous that my dad left a well deserved tip. the milkshake was creamy and moreish and £6, would order again.
