Great Place!

Lovely cafe close to Nikko station. Has a set breakfast menu-all vegetarian and all can be made vegan. Lovely vibe and great place! Very fresh food!

Lovely café

Within 5-10 minutes walk from Nijo Station, it has a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, you can sit comfortably and chat with your friends for as long as you want sipping a drink or eating. I had a pretty good chai latte (soy milk option available) and a really delicious vegan lentil burger, healthy and yummy, served with a small tasty salad and good crunchy bread. 5/5 for that burger. Being a cafe and not a restaurant they have a limited menu, but there are a few vegan options and they are all marked on the menu. I spoke Japanese with the staff, but they seem to know English as well.

Friendly staff, irregular hours

Tried going here a few times but the shop was closed early without obvious explanation. Success on the third try though and glad for it.
I had the vegan burger which was delicious and filling (though deceptively small at first).
If you’re in the area this is a great option, but probably not worth crossing town for.

Calm & nice cafe

We love this cafe's atmosphere very much, busy traffic outside but inside of this cafe is very calm with friendly staffs. They even sell organic local vegetables. We had a vegan lunch, all foods were delicious and a hand dripped cup of coffee was also good!

Pros: Lovely café., Friendly staffs., Organic vegetable.

Highly recommended!

If perchance one plans a trip to the bamboo forest from the Nija / Oike area then a visit to this establishment is obligatory.

Many options on the food menu are vegan. The coffee is truly excellent. The staff are delightful.

We popping in for coffees (one hand drip and one French press) in the early morning, and we liked it so much that we returned later in the day to have lunch.

All the food (see photos) we had was top notch, especially the pickles, the burger bread and the coffee jelly (see menu).

To top it all off we chose an espresso brownie with a shot of espresso (excellent), the combination was heavenly.

Pros: 有氣氛跟有好吃的餐點

Nice food and atmosphere

I had the vegan lunch set and a soy latte, both were delicious and just the right amount. Very kind and attentive staff (I don't speak Japanese and the lady serving me was very helpful).

Great for food and coffee

This is a great place for food. It does serve meat but there are numerous well-marked vegan options for savoury and dessert. It also has great specialty coffee. A lovely place - 5 stars if it were fully veggie!

Nice and simple to order, very friendly staff.

We came in for breakfast, where they had a bunch of vegan and gluten free options clearly listed out. The food was fantastic and well worth your time to check out.

Pleasant Cafe with Yummy Breakfast Option

I've been here twice now - once for lunch a while ago, and once for breakfast quite recently, and both were nice! It's a bit of a shame that the menu isn't fully vegan, but there are still good options (including almost all of the baked goods). I would really recommend the breakfast salad bowl and soy cappuccino. The atmosphere is relaxing (someone else noted that they play nice music) with lots of space.

Cool & friendly, vegan and gf options

I liked breakfast at this stylish café. It has a nice gluten-free ginger-lemon-chia muffin, gluten-free cookies and I apart from many Coffee variations also a fantastic match-latte with soy-milk, which I have ordered.

Should be 5 stars

Great for breakfast! Quite a good location, not far from downtown kyoto and from what i could see everything is vegetarian. Coffee was good as well, they made my sister an espresso shot without any problems.

I would rate it 5 stars! One of my favorites in kyoto.

This is such a lovely cafe, very cosy and inviting. Staff very friendly and spoke English, and menu in English. We had vegetarian burgers which were delicious, the sauces on it were so good and the salad that came with it was great! Would definitely go back again!

Pros: Delicious burger, really nice atmosphere

Cosy lunch cafe with great coffee

Walking distance from Nijo Castle, veg-friendly Cafe Phalam has 2 vegan specials: combo platter or veggie burger. The menu is posted next to the register& baked goods case, where you place your order and pay in advance.

I had the combo platter, 950JPY, with rice, hearty soup, pickles , tofu omelette , potato-onion tart , salad, small dessert. Portions are small, but the food is tasty, and there is a display case of vegan baked goods, a small organic grocery section and some attractive tableware for sale. I had a gernous mug of the day's coffee (Brazilian) , bought a green tea muffin to take out and enjoyed a relaxing lunch break there.

Directions: A half block from Nijo subway station on the Tozai line, walking distance from Nijo Castle , the cafe is adjacent to a Lawson's on Senbon-dori, just past the Oike-dori intersection. You will see the wood front & large sign for the cafe next to the Lawson's parking lot, on a small side street . Note: the subway station for Nijo Castle is Nijo-jo station, one stop away.

Pros: Open on Mondays, Vegan options and desserts, Welcoming atmosphere

Great Coffee

I went there yesterday for afternoon coffee and cake and I will be definitely coming back. The place is very close to NIjō Station/Nijō Castle, but is quiet and cozy despite the convenient location. It has friendly vibe and a small organic grocery section if you fancy buying something for later. I have to say that the coffee was simply delicious, so totally recommend going for the coffee alone. I had soy latte and a coconut-carrot cake, which was yummy as well. The cakes should be all vegan, unless stated otherwise.

Pros: Great coffee, Good location, Friendly vibe

Cons: Serves Meat

Great hangout spot with amazing coffee and good vegan options

This has become one of my favorite spots to chill recently with its spacious, cozy interior and amazing coffee. They also have many vegan options such as the vegan patty set meal, vegan hamburgers, soy lattes, sweet treats that are all vegan except for the cream bun. The food is not mind-blowing but overall I enjoyed what I tried, especially their fresh side salad with this amazing tangy dressing and gluten free chocolate muffin. The staff are really friendly and I always have a relaxing time while I am there. It's a shame that not everything is vegan but I'm grateful that there are great options for vegans near Nijo Station. Some people mentioned that this is also a brunch spot which is fantastic because we need more vegan brunch places in Kyoto! They also have a small grocery section selling coffee related items, vegan friendly ingredients and fresh vegetables that are grown naturally with little or no pesticides for an affordable price.

Great little cafe

Cute little cafe with the best coffee we've had in Kyoto. The morning set was very tasty. Would have left 5 stars if I could but Happy Cow doesn't allow it for not fully veg restaurants. I wasn't able to find a non-vegetarian option on the menu here though, possibly at lunch?

Excellent combo plate + coffee

The combo plate is always very good, and so is the coffee. The combo plate contains plenty of vegetables and a nice variety of dishes, usually rice, some soup/stew, potato pie, tsukemono, salad, tofu and a little dessert.
There are few veg*n places in that area of Kyoto so it's nice to have Phalam around.

Pros: variety, good coffee

Next to Nijo station

They only had two vegetarian options for lunch - a burger and a combo plate (both were delicious). I think both could also be done vegan, but not sure. They sold a few organic and fair trade goods - and had good coffee!

Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Location

Cons: Choice
