Organic Excellence…! - Edit
When we were in Lisbon, we couldn’t resist checking out the vegan spots on Happy Cow. One of the top-rated restaurants we found was Organi Chiado, which is just a short walk from our place in the Bairro-Alto. So, we decided to go for lunch and see what all the fuss was about!
Read moreThe place was already packed when we got there, but the inside had a cool, sophisticated vibe. Our server was super friendly and attentive. Of course, all that sightseeing had made us thirsty, so we started with a couple of super cold Super Bocks.
For our main course, we shared an appetizer of bread and pâtés. Oh my gosh, the spreads were amazing! There were three different ones: Basil Tofu, Olives-Walnut, and Peanut Butter-Apple. All of them were delicious, but the Basil Tofu was my favorite. It was so refreshing and smooth, and it was unlike anything I’d ever tasted before — not made out of tofu, anyway.
Organi Chiado has two different specials that change (I believe) every day, and on our first visit, we both couldn’t resist the Braised Tofu (served with lime rice, a side salad, and tempura veggie crisp). It was incredible! Hands down, the best food we’d had up to that point. And the prices were surprisingly reasonable, considering how fancy the place was.
We left feeling totally satisfied and made a mental note to come back to Chiado Organi soon. But guess what? The very next day, we went to another vegan restaurant that was a total disaster. We were so hungry and disappointed that we ran straight back to Organi to save the day! (This time around, again, we shared a larger order of the bread and pâtés; I did cheesy penne pasta; Jay the lasagna. And, too, we shared a pecan pie with house-made ice cream. O.M.G…!!!) And not only did it save us, but we also got to catch up with our friend from the day before, which was really nice.
Simply awesome!!!

An oasis in Chiado - Edit
We had a wonderful meal here, with great service at reasonable prices. It was in the middle of tourist season in an area full of foreigners. These folks served up great food with generous portions and didn't overcharge. They could have done anything and made money. They chose to provide a gracious, restorative experience. I speak some Portuguese, but the wait staff understood I was more comfortable in English and accommodated me.

We came here on our last night in Lisbon and deeply regretted not coming sooner. We ordered the caprese salad, Caesar salad, penne pasta and a bean/sausage dish that I can’t remember the name of…. We were literally laughing at how good it was. A must must must visit for vegans and vegetarians.

It’s unusual to find a vegan place which also serves their food/drinks without refined sugar… I was so excited to check this place out and see how tasty it was for myself. My husband and I were not disappointed! We both ordered a dessert (“chococream” and “no cheesecake”) and a drink (daily juice, natural piña colada). It was affordable and well worth having to walk up some stairs (in the heat) to get there. Highly recommend!

We came for lunch outside, had pasta and burger plate - which I absolutely loved since it was not just a boring burger in a bun but there was interesting combination of the burger, sauce, salad, rice, orange and others - things I would not put together but they did and it was great! The staff were super friendly. I got the veggie burger and today it was filled with lentils (they rotate their menu daily I believe). It was delicious with great flavours and lovely atmosphere. The location is right next to tourist shops and some landmarks. 10/10 recommend for lunch or dinner

This place was really sweet! The service was fast, there was lots of comfortable seating and the outside patio was pretty. 100% vegan. The appetizer of vegan cheese was probably the best vegan cheese I’ve ever had! Also got a chorizo bean soup, my boyfriend got a pesto pasta. They were both really delicious. Highly recommend. Healthy but still very filling.

Al fresco dining spot, if you are lucky and get a spot outside you can enjoy outdoor dining tucked away from the busy streets. The food is simple and tasty. I had a bean stew which came with little slices of seitan chorizo and a generous salad. The cheesecake was light and paired well with an espresso. The serving staff was friendly and fast. With a tip, the main with fresh lemonade and a dessert of cheesecake and espresso came to just over 21 euros.

The restaurant has a little terrace in a quiet alley which is very pretty and romantic at night. A great choice for a fancy but casual date night, and at a good price.

Thank you, Happy Cow! Another delicious find, not in my own neighbourhood this time, but half way around the world. The daily soup (cream of courgette) and the risotto with three kinds of mushrooms were outstanding. If all that weren’t perfect enough, having a table on their terraced, treed cobble stairs on a balmy spring evening was heaven!
