Nini Hachi- Clueless about Tofu, Noodles, Etc. - Edit
I went to Nini Hachi for Veg Sushi before Corona and really enjoyed the restaurant and the Sushi. So recently, I returned to order a big take out dinner and I was extremely disappointed.
Read moreFor starters we got the Agdashi Tofu. My 2 year old is addicted to almost any tofu and she wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. It was practically uncooked, and without any flavor. The sauce which went on it was pretty blandish as well. While I acknowledge that this style of Agadashi tofu is better fresh, overall it may have been the worst Agadashi tofu I've had. It just felt like it was made by someone who had zero training in cooking tofu and the sauce had no kick to it.
For mains we ordered the "Pad See Ew" and I think the "ew" sums it up best. The Chow fun style noodles were completely over cooked and my kids (who are obsessed with all types of Pasta) wouldn't go near it. The pasta was just stuck together and mushy with no chew to it, and it was totally bland.
As I wanted an entrée with rice, I asked if there was a Vegan Stir fry that could go with rice which wasn't spicy. I was delighted when the person who took my order offered to do an Off-Menu Vegan version of the Nam Man Hoi. What I didn't realize was that instead of substituting for the meat, a fake meat or tofu, they were instead just giving me the vegetables in a soupy/brothy sauce. The flavor of the Nam Man Hoi was good and the veggies were of top notch quality, with three different types of Mushrooms including Shimeji, and Shitake as well as asparagus. But if a restaurant is going to to take out the most expensive ingredient (the protein) and not replace it with anything. firstly the customer should be told, and secondly it shouldn't be the same price for some cooked vegetables.
Lastly, we had a the Veg Sushi Combo. Their Sushi is top notch. The rice is really perfect, the flavor's great, although in general, it would be nice if they had some more creative vegan sushi offerings. they also give ample sauces and even have a Vegan Spicy Mayo!
One other thing I really like about Nini Hachi is that they made a separate area for preparing Sushi for Pregnant women.
Unfortunately, between the bland sauces and the inability to cook tofu (or noodles), and the fact that in Tel Aviv, the Vegan Capital of the world, there are just too many superior Vegan Sushi Options as well as Vegan Friendly Asian options which are far tastier and more authentic, I highly doubt I will be returning.

Used to be better - Edit
I’ve been coming here for a few years every time I visited Tel Aviv and loved that they had a separate vegan menu. Went back last night, called ahead to make a reservation, was advised they no longer had a vegan menu but the vegan options were clearly marked. Arrived. No options marked ‘vegan’. Food was fairly good but used to be better. Best to ask the staff what options are vegan/can be made vegan. Service was quite slow but they were busy. Used to have some great desserts and now they don’t have even one suitable for vegans. Probably won’t be going back as food is a lot better elsewhere.

Cons: No longer has separate vegan menu, No vegan dessert, Gets very busy so book ahead

Separate Vegan Menu! - Edit
The fact that they are Kosher and take pride in catering to Pregnant women made them adopt easily to a separate Vegan corner with separate knives and and working environment!.
Read moreThey have a Vegan menu with first courses mains and deserts.
Always a good Sushi and Asian option when in Tel Aviv.
Pros: vegan menu!, kosher so no dairy products at all!, Pregnant women's menu!
Cons: serve fish, serve chicken and beef, not open on Saturday!
