Marvelous experience

Lovely place by the water. Had a romantic multiple dish dinner in one of their cabins/ greenhouses. Had wine pairing as well. Food was very delicious, the atmosphere was romantic and cozy, staff was nice.

The place produces some of their food/ plants 🌿

Pros: Atmosphere, Coziness, Gourmet

fresh seasonal food

Delicious vegan restaurant with fresh seasonal food and beautiful view.
Ask for 5 course meal with wine or beer, the combination is wondrous.

Pros: The fresh food, The view , The drinks combination

More of a bar than a place for dinner

This is the second time I’ve tried to eat here this year. First time they had a special event on so no food for members of the public. Today I was told I need to book online 2 hours ahead as that is the notice the chef need to cook the daily menu. Shame, it’s a gorgeous space with great views. I stopped for a drink before I moved on…

Great food and nice view

The food here is very tasty and creative. The mushroom bitterballen are the best! Also, the view is beautiful, by the water (when you dine in the separate serres).

The staff is nice, but not always serviceable, because a staff member said they were fully booked, which turned out to be untrue.

Stunning location, awesome concept

Mediamatic Eten is not like any other vegan place in Amsterdam. Firstly is the setting, it's in a huge greenhouse looking directly out onto the Amsterdam harbour, the water is literally at your feet if you sit in the window - it's a marvellous feeling. There's a lot of interesting events, art and happenings at Mediamatic, you never know what's going to happen next. There's also an inner dining room which has an Ernst Heckel theme, obscure perhaps, but an absolute dream for someone like me who is obsessed enough by him to have written a graphic novel about his life (I understand this is a niche area of interest.) Next up is the concept, a lot of their ingredients are grown right there in their facility, they have a huge hydroponic greenhouse, a vegetable garden and lots of random tubs and pots of edible growing stuff. The food you eat is growing all around you. Fabulous! Finally is the genuinely interesting, delicious food. Some days it's pizza, others it's Mezze but whatever day you get, you're bound to get something you've not experienced before. I've never had a boring meal there. The puddings though are of particular note. Even if you're not a sugar person, do not leave without trying one, the brule and pavlova are particularly mind-blowing, but everything I've had has been pretty amazing. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with this interesting, always changing, always fresh place.

Amazing experience

Delicious food and an amazing experience. We had a Serre Séparée for the three of us and we loved every minute of it. The courses were as tasty as they were surprising, the view over the water was entertaining with boats passing by and the service was perfect.

A unique experience

Upon arriving in Amsterdam, my husband and I were looking for a good vegan restaurant and decided to try Mediamatic. Location has a great low key vibe and an even better view. We appreciated that it was quiet and not in a tourist area. We had some appetizers and then stayed for the 5 course vegan meal plus dessert. While portions were smaller, we appreciated the creative combinations and flavors. We ate slowly and watched the water, boats and swimmers in the canal. Megan was a great host and very helpful as she answered all our questions and shared more about the Mediamatic concept. Overall recommend if you’re interested in a unique experience with a nice view and have several hours for dinner.

Five stars for ME

Sadly I can’t give ME five stars for some reason. This was the whole vegan package - a definitely must for anyone going to Amsterdam.

All vegan restaurant, but I guess this hasn’t been updated on Happy Cow yet..

Pizza like never before 🍕

The Ethos of Mediamatic is wholesome and compelling, where a lot of the ingredients are experimental and/or locally grown. There was only pizza on offer for our visit, but this wasn’t a disappointment! The flavour combinations were so rich and full of depth that it almost felt like fine dining. There are local beers on offer which were the perfect match to the pizza. We had a seat overlooking the water in the evening, making the meal all the more enchanting. Prices were average, reasonable for the experience and quality of food/service.

Pros: Incredible views, Incredible flavours, Sustainable ethos

Cons: Can get cold in winter

Last change, so great

IMPORTANT BEFORE READING!!!

Everything is vegan, not just veg options

I booked this lovely place after a tip of my Tatto Twin brother Rude 77. As it happened we we're the among the last people to ewat here before the second Corona lock down light.

The scenery is as romantic as it gets. An eco greenhouse on the waterfront with a view over the Amsterdam canals, the Nemo museum etc. Nicely heated, candle lit and an extra blanket in case it's too cold.

And the the food. Wow, just wow. There's no menu to pick from but the season choices are put into delicious dishes. We had an French Vichyssoise soup , Italian mushrooms and barley heated in baking paper, a sweet and sour salad to start with an an exquisite dessert.

I wish I could give this fantastic experience (part of an art exhibiton, yoga course etc etc ) 5 stars. Among my Top 10 and definitely worth going once this lock down is over

It's a bit of a hype but still an interesting experience

I have booked one of the private greenhouses for my birthday. In general, eating in your own greenhouse was a very amazing and unique experience. The view of the water and Nemo was really great.
The food was only so so. There were some parts that I really liked and others that I really don't. Which made the whole food experience only mediocre for me.
It also felt like it is way too overpriced for what you get and that the whole place is mainly a big hype.
If you want to go for a unique experience and don't mind overpaying for that, I can for sure suggest this experience. Especially, if you are a fan of fancy dining with dishes that have surprising flavour combinations.
Otherwise, I would reccomend to save your money and go somewhere else.

Pros: special experience, great views

Cons: too pricey, food is not that yum

Vegan dining experience

Currently (mid 2020) they have installed mini greenhouses on the waters edge for tables of two or four, and have a completely vegan fixed menu. Gluten free no problem, wine and non-alcoholic drinks pairing options. Everything was delicious!

Most special meal experience!

I came here a while ago with friends and we ordered the menu consisting of four courses, in our case the main was DIY sushi. It was a very special experience in a beautiful atmosphere. It’s more expensive than most vegan restaurants in the area, but in my opinion very much worth it! I plan to try the pizza night next, they have some interesting options.

Update: pizzas are amazing too! I had the Nero and the Verde and I thought both were so original and the most interesting flavour combinations.

(Would give 5 stars, but the app won’t let me because they serve oysters).

Pros: Unique, Great atmosphere, 5 stars!

Vegan pizza on the banks, with a nice view

We were here on a lovely Summer evening and had made a reservation online. We were sat at a table for two, on the bank, with a nice view over the water.

There were only pizzas available that evening (all vegan). We ordered the pizza nero and pizza rossi, both 15€.
We also wanted some nuts, but the waiter came back to say there weren't any available that day, so we were offered some olives as a replacement (for free!).

The pizzas took a while to be served (although the place was certainly not packed).
They eventually came, and were realy nice. Original crispy pizzas. But still 15euro was a bit steep.

Service was mixed: one of the waiters was a very friendly guy, one of the others rather grumpy and came across as quite condescending.

The chairs outside were very uncomfortable, and an uneven pavement made the chairs and table quite unsteady.
The restaurant itself is wheelchair accessible (at least the greenhouse part and the outdoor seating - the inside room is with stairs up and I did not notice any wheelchair accessible toilets).

All in all: we loved the pizzas. Service a bit hit and miss. And although a beautiful view, not so comfortable sitting.

go there to have some wine

This place is AWESOME. So beautiful. It's in a greenhouse by the water so the whole atmosphere is crazy. But it was very chilly so be sure to bring a sweater if it's not a hot day.

The food wasn't great. My friends had beetroot something. It was cold and they weren't full when they left (literally just beetroot, unions and kale with a piece if bread). I had the fake steak. The fries were too oily and overcooked. There weren't much bearnaise but a lot of the most boring salad ever. Steak was fine.

It was expensive and the food came really late even though there weren't much people there (and my friend's food were cold).

Pros: beautiful setting

Cons: expensive , Food not tasty, slow service

Very nice food

Delicious food, unusual and super tasty. They grow their own vegetables and have some specials every night. Service is quick and very friendly. Lovely atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed romantic dinner. We absolutely loved it!

Pros: Everything vegan apart from one dish

beautiful Place but random food

The location of this restaurant is great and the place itself is beautiful. We had the 4 course vegan dinner (one course had a meat option) consisting of pumpkin soup, homemade tempeh with mushrooms, stampot with mushrooms and desert was yoghurt and another merengues. The tempeh was the best but still not very good. All food was quite random, flavours not very interesting.

Mostly vegan, creative and great

Celebrates vegan goodness. It’s not like other places which are for omnivores/vegetarians - this place is vegan first but will serve you other options.
AMAZING breads and dips and really nice coffee and chocolate.
Wonderful atmosphere with artworks on the walls and an eco-friendly high temperature 2 stage burner which drives all the heaters in the building.
The water front location is great and the staff are super-friendly.

Pros: Waterside Location, Mostly vegan food, Creative environment

Unique vegan pizzas and art

This unconventional art space offers mostly vegan, organic food. I tried the 'pizza nero' and it was truly delicious. The small menu is impressive because of the pizzas unlike any you may find elsewhere. The mushroom sauce, grilled oyster mushrooms, fermented beans, spinach and roasted garlic made the commonly used cheese completely unnecessary. They have a nice selection of the Dutch brewed Oedipus beers for beer lovers. After lunch I looked around their aquaponic grow house and several art projects. Although the art wasn't really my style I will definitely come back here to try another one of their unique pizzas. I must say that it is a bit pricey for beer an pizza, but the art is enjoyed for free, and the pizza and beer really are superior quality. Enjoying the view over the water on their terrace on the sun made the experience even better.

Pros: Original pizzas, Free art, Great view

Cons: Small menu, A bit pricey

vegan bliss

We had a 4 course vegan menu. Absoluty tastfull and not the usuall vegan food you nogmally find. I like the different approach to use a simple vegetable into something totally different by taste! These meals you won't eat at home as a vegan :)

For me the best of Mediamtic eten are the vegan pizzas and the fact that the pizzaiolo makes them from scratch in front of you in a cute wood oven!!
But also I like the bitterballen and the Gobi 65 as meze with my beer!
The view is just great, relaxing and inspiring!

Pros: Pizza Nero, Gobi 65, Aquaponics Salad

Delicious food and great location

Tried the gobi balls and the curry, which were both very creative and delicious! Some of the food apparently is grown by themselves in the greenhouse next to the restaurant. The location is great, walkable from central station, in a much more quite area and looking over the water. The restaurant is made of glass which made it sometimes a bit chilly when the sun didnt shine, and the heating was not on yet. Besides the restaurant they have lots of workshops and exhibitions which I did not yet, but am definitely going to check out soon!

Pros: Delicious+special dishes, Creative place with also workshops/exhibitions, Great location

Cons: Temperature in the restaurant
