This is the WORST loving hut outlet I’ve ever been to, and possible the worse outlet in the whole world. I have NO clue how the * this place can have so good reviews here?
Read moreI have a theory that vegans automatically give good reviews to vegan buffets without paying attention to the actual quality of the food and I think there reviews is the proof of that.
I stayed pretty far away from this place so I emailed and asked if they always serve the buffet (because that’s what I wanted to try). They answered that they always serve the buffet. At midsummer I would have expected the place to be closed but it’a Facebook page had updated that it was open like usually. I arrive and there’s no buffet, not even any actual options from the menu. I believe there was 3 options to chose from? I feel that this is pretty relevant information to write out clearly when you write that you’re open as usual.
Anyhow, I ordered summer rolls as entree and wonton soup as main. The summer rolls arrived after the soup even though they were ordered as a started, and contained a LONG and thick black hair really baked into them. I commented to the waiter and she gave me a really nonachalant “sorry” and asked if I wanted it exchanged. Umm yeah?? She gave me a new one (I had even finished my main dish st this point) and they were really not good anyway. The wonton soup was really bad and didn’t taste anything at all.
I took for granted that they, out of normal restaurant curtesy, wouldn’t charge me for the roll but they did anyway and I didn’t want to fight about it. If that wasn’t enough they forgot to charge me for my drink, and the waitress runs AFTER me on the street (several minutes later, luckily I wasn’t too far away because I went right but then turned around and walked back and then the other direction down the street) and forced me to go back and pay. It was HER mistake and I feel that she could have let that pass since they literally gave me a disgusting entree.
I decided to give it one more try anyway and went back for the buffet with a very enthusiastic vegan friend. There was 3 options and some very boring salad. No drinks included and desserts not included either, even though lots of reviews here seems to say that.....? There was no sushi, meat balls or spring rolls either like some people claim to have gotten. Maybe we had bad luck. All of the 3 options was completely tasteless and both of us felt ill after eating there.
TLDR Stay away

Dear vmaelstrom,
Read moreI am the owner of Loving Hut Helsinki. First of all, I would love to thank you for your feedback, and for coming to our restaurant even twice! I am honestly sorry for hearing your bad experiences at our restaurant, and that our food did not satisfy your expectation.
I have one of my friends administering our facebook page, but that day she did not know I would offer menu only, that was why she replied you we had buffet the whole day. At this point, once again, we apologise you for it! And for rarely do we carry out menu services, we are lack of experience for this type of service though, I could not disagree with you on this!
Secondly, I need to clarify the reasons why our custormers rated us this high:
1. They are Asian-food lovers
2. The price is quite fair
3. They have the same desiration as ours that to make this world better, more compassionate and more noble, which keeps this planet away of climate change by saving animal friends.
Thirdly, I read that you thought the buffet was supposed to include drink and dessert, as SOME of our custormers addresed so. I had gone through every single comment, but no one ever said so. One of them (Ricardo, FYI) even shared that they are NOT included. Adding to the fact that, we have never ever advertised dessert and drink would be included in our buffet! I think nowhere in this expensive Helsinki could offer you vegan buffet + drink + dessert with 10.8 EURO, or maybe there is misunderstanding somewhere?!?!
Lastly, we do change our buffet options frequently, that was why when you came, there was not any meatball or spring roll. They were already replaced with something else :)
Though we have tried our best, sometimes, problems do happen and we know we need to take it as a lesson and move on. Just to let you know, together, I and couples of people volunteer to work for this restaurant without asking for any benefit, but at least, we need enough money to keep this restaurant stable and pay the bills for it monthly. So, please be more understandable that we could not offer you more affordable price with more options, because we just want to keep it fair for people to approach veganism! Vegan people with compassionate heart, they come and totally understand that only me, or sometimes, two of us, make this restaurant work, so they are OK with self-service and just enjoy our food!
I wish you all the best in the future, and thank you for being vegan anyway!
Best Regards,
Tiina

Delicious food at fantastic price - Edit
This was easy enough to find in the Hakaniemi area and was a decent buffet with about 12 choices. I tried them all and loved them all – quite unusual for me! They were really flavoursome without being too spicy. I had seconds😄It was also really great value for Helsinki! I’d eat here all the time if I were local.

Loved the food and price - Edit
I'm a sucker for all vegan restaurants and even more of a sucker for all vegan buffets!! There was sushi, rice, tofu meatballs, salad, cabbage, spring rolls, green beans, potatoes, carrots, tofu, cous cous and more. All the food was fresh and delicious. For 10€ all you can eat in Helsinki this place is a must for vegan budget travellers. Only negatives I have was the ambience (maybe just a little bit of music and colour for the place?) and the fact that 95% of the vegans on the wall were men (when there are statistically waaay more women vegans - famous ones too). But was great overall!

Good value lunch buffet - Edit
Having been to dozens of independent Loving Hut locations around the world, I feel like this one is more or less average. Everything I tried was good, though short of amazing. It's pretty much a self-service situation here, so how good the service is will be up to you. ;-) Prices represent good value.

Very nice lunch buffet, with options ranging from kimchi to sushi to spring rolls. Desserts are not included but hot drinks are. Everything we tried was yummy.

Sushi, spring rolls, hummus, salads, rice dish, sweet and sour dish, fake beef in a brown sauce dish, tofu and potato in a creamy curry sauce. €10.80 Very good value for money. The food was hot enough and the tiramisu €5 was amazing. Really lovely lady with good ethos wanting to spread vegan food and love not earn a tonne of money. She does outside catering for festivals too where she does burgers and western food as well. Highly recommend.

Amazing food!!! - Edit
I am so greatful I found this restaurant on happy cow when we traveled to Helsinki with family from Tallinn. We heard about this place first from local vegan community who suggested to try it out. I couldnt have been more pleasantly surprised about the tastes I experienced, I loved the smell the moment I stepped in, food was so good. We were welcomed very kindly by the owner and on top of all that, restaurant staff was really supportive as after the meal our child fell asleep on the chairs after long hike from the port and we had to let her so ended up staying there few hours. We didnt have more than few portions though as the food was so filling and watched the child sleep and enjoyed a hot drink and a book for some time. Our whole family is looking forward to return when spring arrives and we can travel by bikes. Warming meal to the body and soul on a frosty winter day! So thankful!

extremely disappointing - Edit
I've been to many "loving hut" chains and I've never been this disappointed. The atmosphere is dead and the food is nothing special. If loving hut is your go-to vegan restaurant - please find somewhere else to go in Helsinki. Unless you're looking for mediocre food. My partner and I ended up going to S - market to pick up some food there which was better.

One of the few vegan places in Helsinki - Edit
The menu of the buffet is kind of cross kitchen. Quality of the selection varies a bit - for example hummus is nothing special but warm dishes are tasty. They have quite "meaty" dishes and they are well seasoned.

Hungry vegan in Helsinki. - Edit
As a person, who works hard in construction, and burns a lot of calories - the buffet type of restaurant sounded the most appealing. And since I am a whole foods, oil free vegan - I decided to just go, and eat anything, that is oil free. So glad I did! Tina's English was good to communicate, and when she found out that I eat oil free - she gave me the most pleasant surprise of a lifetime! She said - just sit down and wait a moment, and I'll make for you the food without oil. While I was enjoying the salad, which already was oil free...after ten minutes I had a large sushi roll...and after another 10 minutes - absolutely delicious fried rice with veggies, and fried tofu in an amazing sauce, which gets delivered there from Holland by Tina's friends. She is such a fast and excellent cook, and such a friendly and welcoming person to talk to! Tina has gained her experience also working in vegan restaurant in France for four years, and her delicious tofu she makes of her own, on the spot (you can even by it). I was worried that I got there too late (half an hour before closing time)...but, no worries - you can easily, stress free finish you meals, even if you get there a few seconds before six. The food totally "hit the spot", and the warm welcome put a smile on my stone cold face :D. So, in conclusion, if you are a whole foods oil free vegan - don't hesitate, just get your ass over there, and enjoy the most delicious, costume made food by a real pro. This is the most affordable, underrated place of awesomeness in Helsinki - the simplicity, warmth, the joy of sharing and making others happy. Definitely a regular costumer, whenever I'll be in Helsinki!
Read morePS. Half of the four Tina's tofu pieces, that I bought yesterday, are already gone - they taste so fresh and pure! Thank you, Tina!!! :) :) :)

Happy I tried Loving Hut. - Edit
Loving Hut will be my go to eatery in Helsinki now. The food, 100% vegan, was delicious. The buffet was a nice mix of sushi, couscous w veggies, potatoes, cabbage and then the cooked veggies with tofu and seitan with a seasoned rice and white rice to accompany. Tina lovingly makes her tofu fresh everyday being mindful and caring for the health and well being of her customers. There is a carafe of water to drink and several hot teas to choose from. I enjoyed eating here and talking to Tina. The restaurant was very clean and comfortable. I especially like the pictures of famous vegans on the wall as elite plant based athletes encouraged me to choose this lifestyle.
