Every Vegan’s Pilgrimage - Edit
Wow, wow, wow. Not the best vegan food ever - the best food ever! Every vegan should make a pilgrimage to this restaurant and drag a vegan-sceptic with them to see how wonderful vegan food can be.
Read moreOur starters of aromatic crispy ‘duck’ and steamed combo with a side of crispy seaweed were a sight and taste of things to come - it tasted even better than it looked.
Mains of sweet and sour chk’n, black bean tofu and ‘duck’ chow mein were scarily good - generous portions that were too much after the starters, but the waiter offered to package up the left-overs before we asked!
Although full, had to try the fritters - the batter on these was the best ever.
Don’t know how the chef did it, but all the food was sprinkled with feel-good stardust.
Staff were the politest ever, nothing was too much trouble.
If you fancy some wine with your banquet, bring your own for just £3 corkage.
Price wise, you would eat like a king for around £25 a head (we over-did it slightly, but will get a free lunch tomorrow from the take-home bag!)
We would go well out of our way to back and work our way through the menu, but our son would ALWAYS have the steamed combo.
The lotus is the symbol of spiritual enlightenment, here it is the symbol of culinary enlightenment - a re-birth for any vegan-sceptic!
Pros: The food, The chef, The staff
Cons: The distance - would they deliver 120 miles?

The fully vegan menu of offer is amazing. The food at Lotus was amazing, it was well worth the 45 minute journey across. Service was amazing and the staff were all very friendly.
Read moreWe had the crispy sharing platter, duck chow mein and sweet and sour chick'n. Everything was excellent and the portions were generous enough so we have some for our lunch tomorrow.
I would highly recommend Lotus to anyone, not just people who follow a plant based diet.
Can't wait to come back again and try some of the other dishes on the menu.

Best Chinese restaurant in the world - Edit
This is the single greatest Chinese restaurant that exists for vegan food. You never find anywhere better for vegan Chinese food. Trust me, this is the number one place for vegans to go and get Chinese food. It will not be beaten!

I never expected that food with a clearly taste of ginger can be so fantastic. Also the fake meat is delicious. We had to wait about 15 min on two chairs, but it's worth the trouble.

Ridiculously good fake meat - Edit
I think you could take anyone here and they'd enjoy it. Sure, some of 'meat' is not wholly discernable from one another but it's all tasty. Reasonably priced and BYOB (for small corkage fee)

This is my favourite place to eat out in Manchester. I love it! It's bascially everything you would normally get in a standard chinese restaurant/take-out, but fully veggie/vegan. Not just tofu options (but I do love tofu), but it has a great variety of other plant-based options made to mimic chick, beef and fish/prawns.
Read moreThe mixed starter is amazing, definitely recommend.
'Chicken' kung po is my favourite, but the black bean dishes are also tasty, fried broccoli and spicy tofu... mmmm
Flowering tea pots are beautiful and worth the price.
Cash only though so make sure you're prepared.
We get take-out from here a lot, but you have to ring and collect only.
Pros: lots of meat alternatives, huge menu, chicken kung po
Cons: cash only

Chinese food done right. - Edit
Good vegan and vegetarian chinese food has always been something of a myth until I found Lotus.
Read moreI love their menu and will get takeaway from them anytime I can.
Things I always get are the prawn toasts and the ginger broccoli.
I can't wait to go back next time I am up in Manchester.
You can probably bring your meat eaters and they won't mind.
Pros: Flavourful, 10% off for ordering and collecting your food, Friendly staff
Cons: They don't deliver, Small restaurant - I would book if I were you

Meaty - Edit
Visited for dinner with two veggies and a carnivore. Had been warned service may be slow as they had a big party upstairs, but considering there was only a couple of staff on, they did amazing. We were happy to eat as the food came and had chosen to order a range of dishes and share them all. Probs wouldn't be ideal if you wanted a quick dinner with everyone's dishes ready together
Read moreIt was great having so many vegan dishes, though very heavy on the 'mock meats', which just isn't my thing, but was much enjoyed by the other eaters! Did feel some of the menu items could do with a bit more description. But staff knowledgable when asked. Samosas on the sharing platter particularly lovely, and the skewers with pineapple on. Overall, good food and good staff. Very reasonably priced. We paid under £20pp and we ordered a LOT of food (starters, sides, mains), and that also included corkage.
Pros: Menu variety , Reasonable prices, BYOB
Cons: Quite a 'meaty' menu, Limited dish descriptions on menu

vegan prawn crackers! - Edit
I came here during a four hour flight layover and I am so so glad I did! It's a cash only place but there's a Sainsbury's with an indoors ATM four minutes away. They kindly allowed me to ditch my rucksack while getting cash out. I was so excited when I saw that not only is the majority of the massive menu vegan-friendly, but it also looked super interesting - they won me at vegan prawn crackers to be honest! I chose a stir fried bean curd starter and vegan meat strips with crispy noodles for my main - generous portions at reasonable prices. The starter was excellent but I did ask for chilli oil for my main as it needed a bit of a kick. The crackers were complementary (and delicious)and they also served fresh fruit at the end, which I thought was a nice touch. Didn't have time for dessert but the pineapple fritters sounded so good! The service was prompt and excellent. Would highly recommend.

A treat for anyone who enjoys Asian cuisine! - Edit
I have been coming to Lotus for about two years now and it is, hands down, one of my favourite Vegan/vegetarian restaurants to visit.
Read moreThe menu consists mainly of Chinese dishes, including starters, mains and sides.
All the dishes are clearly marked if they are either Vegan, spicy or contain nuts. I would say most things on the menu are vegan friendly.
The flavours and variety and incredible, they serve some of the best meat-substitutes I have ever tasted.
Their 'chicken' satay skewers are mouthwatering, as is pretty much anything from the crispy combo platter.
They serve some lovely teas, which I often have hot as an refreshing accompaniment to our meal.
They do have a BYOB policy which is handy if you fancy a drink. I've brought non veggies to Lotus and they have enjoyed it as much as me.
My favourite dish off the menu is the sweet and sour 'king prawns'.
Definitely worth a visit if your in the NW.
Pros: A wide variety of dishes , the veggie prawn crackers , the £5 lunch menu

Perfection - Edit
This is my all time favourite restaurant - I absolutely adore it. The menu is wonderful for vegans, with an excellent mix of tofu, vegetable and mock meat dishes, some of which are very unique. I feel I am addicted to the duck pancakes and have to have these at least once a month. Slowly working my way through the mains - each one has been an absolute joy. Wide range of teas and soft drinks available and BYOB if you wish something alcoholic. The restaurant itself has a simple and bright decore and is always spotless. The staff are so welcoming and I feel like an old friend returning with each visit. A really special place that I hope to frequent for many more years to come.

Inexpensive and tasty food - Edit
Nice restaurant with friendly staff and an impressively long and varied menu. The menu is similar to some of the better branches of the international Loving Hut chain. Particularly good if you like mock meat - which isn't always that easy to find in the north of England - and Chinese/Vietnamese style food. I particularly enjoyed the mock-duck pancakes.
Read moreInexpensive (less than £15 a head when we visited, and we had plenty of food left over). Bring your own alcohol.

I keep heading back to this place with my mother.

Steamed tofu with vine leaves - try it.
And the curry sauce is rather like a mix between Japanese Katsu curry and British chip shop curry - try it.

Huge menu, all tasty, and healthy.
