Unusual flavours - Edit
An interesting place with unusual flavours in the food.
Read moreWe had the tofu skin burger which came with mushrooms. That was ok but the fries were thickly coated with cinnamon and to me, inedible. I've never had cinnamon fries before and they really were not to my taste.
We also ordered the pesto linguine. This had a strong aniseed taste for some reason. Again, that was not to our taste which was a shame because the mushrooms, pasta and sauce probably would have been ok otherwise. The aniseed taste was just too much.
The papaya milk and ginger drink were both really good.
I had very different expectations for the meal because I thought, with the name, it would be more like an American diner. This is a nice restaurant, not what I would call a diner, but nice in its own right.
Thanks to the other Happy Cow reviews and photos which helped us find the place. The door is covered with a curtain so just open it to enter.

Pros: papaya milk and ginger drink, quiet
Cons: some of the food was not to my taste, not a diner in the Western sense of the word

Nice little place to grab a bite - Edit
Not super difficult to find but it's off in the apt blocks so look around and you'll find it. Inside we approached the counter and were asked to go upstairs with the menus, and come down to order when we were ready. There were 2 or 3 tables open downstairs, I guess they had been reserved by others.
Read moreUpstairs was kinda low light and funky jazz playing. Happy to see a menu with not so many choices, makes ordering easier. Food came quickly after we ordered, although we ran afoul of the rule they have about every person must order min 200TWD, which caused us to change our order and not order exactly what we wanted (even though our original total came to more than 200/per).
The falafel burger was good, but the potatoes that came with it were undercooked. Overnight oats with it were good and a nice simple dessert.
We also ordered the creamy mushroom pasta, which was really good. A milk tea rounded out our order, it was nice to have a vegan milk tea.
Pros: Food was really tasty, Nice to have a small menu
Cons: Min order per person doesn't make sense

Fancy all vegan dinner - Edit
Lovely tasty dinner in an intimate setting. Western style dishes with a Taiwanese flair. We had falafel burger (with soup & salad), lime and coriander risotto, satay skewers.

Hidden gem near Pier 2 art centre - Edit
This place is a little hard to find as previous reviewers have said, but the directions and pictures from other reviews helped us find it no problem. The decor is quite fun and rather fancy.
Read moreWe ordered the orecchiette risotto and the tofu skin teriyaki burger, along with the tofu skin satay skewers. The skewers had lots of nice vegetables on there and had a subtle satay flavour, as opposed to coming with a dipping sauce.
The orecchiette dish didn't actually seem to have any orecchiette - maybe it was a mistranslation? Still, the sauce with risotto was exquisite and very rich, with deep flavours that are rare in a vegan risotto.
The burger was great too, with lots of different things going on, which meant that it was quite hard to keep together while eating. It wasn't necessarily a burger, but still one of my favourite 'vegan things in bread' that I've had for a while.
We'd definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area, which as a tourist in Kaohsiung, you are likely to be.
Pros: Amazing risotto, Nice flavours in the burger

Cool space - Edit
OLittle Star reminds me of Melbourne, where it's a sign of being super cool if your restaurant can't be found without walking past it several times. Alas, we eventually found our way in and had a very enjoyable lunch. I had the lime coriander risotto and a milk tea, but the highlight would have to be the pineapple and passionfruit cheesecake that was for dessert that day. Perfectly tart and delicious. Yum!!! Totally worth a visit. Note that on weekends at least they don't close at 2pm anymore, so are open in the afternoon as well.

Cute and Delicious! - Edit
We had a wonderful lunch here! It was a little hard to find. (Look for the door in the picture. It is around the corner of an alley.) But the restaurant was super cute, the staff was very friendly, and the food was tasty! I had a mushroom burger and macha latte, and my wife had the lime risotto and black tea shake. A wonderful, hidden experience!
