Wonderful “mezzanine” vibe was bright & airy (a nice change for many NYC locations). Great variety on the menu from light appetizer/tapas style plates or larger entrees. Food was tasty and spot-on for seasoning & flavors. Staff were also very prompt, attentive, and friendly.

Superb meal I shared with two nonvegans who also agreed this was one of the best meals they had. The service was impeccable. The ambiance lush and understated. A superb experience all around. All the meats are made in house, ingredients are fresh and top quality. There’s an incredible choice of dishes.

Much needed option for elevated Plantbased dining ! The ambiance, service, music, attention to every detail and food are all top notch. I took a non vegan(!!) friend for his birthday dinner and am glad we came. He was blown away and we both loved all the food! The salmon and chicken skewers were probably our favorites! HOW is that salmon not real salmon! What is that made of! The chicken was cooked to perfection, grilled with a slight crunch on the outside and juicy inside with a sauce that had a little heat - amazing. The escargot was ok our least favorite. The mushroom paella also delicious. And the special steak very good in texture and with the chimichurri sauce easily confused with the real deal! Only 2 desserts to chose from we opted for the chocolate nut bal which was perfection. We both drank and the bill with tip was close to $300 but worth it! Highly recommend!

Loved the duck confit salad! - Edit
The duck confit was delicious and felt like the “healthiest” and lightest dish we got from the menu. Everything was great overall, I’m just not used to such meat heavy dishes after all these years of being vegan. Still very cool to try. My favorite was the salmon pinxtos. I really wanted to try the Entremet aux Noisettes (hazelnut dessert) at the end, but opted for the Tarte au Citron, because I need something light and refreshing after such rich and heavy food.

Avoid if you're someone who doesn't enjoy a menu which simulates traditional meat dishes. Tried one Pintxos, two Starters and two entrees. I didn't like the lamb starter or flank steak entree. Both were tough and not particularly flavorful. The Salmon Rilletes was great. Wine selection was nice too. I would return again to sample some other items.

Elegant ambience - Edit
I came here for a birthday celebration; the setting and service here is wonderful, exactly what one would expect for a high-tier restaurant to hold a celebration.
Read moreWe had faux gras, brioche with carmelized butter, mocktail, chicken paella, and beef bourguignon. Naturally, I never had fois gras or beef bourguignon before, so I was happy to try these vegan versions (though I have no idea how closely they match the carnivore versions).
The food was between good and great.. The best dishes were extremely creative and expertly prepared--truly impressive. I did notice, however, that some dishes rely on store-bought items (most notably Grilled Chunk Foods for the beef), and there were fewer vegetables than in other top-level vegan places.

188 dollars for 1 person---worth it but with some requests for the future - Edit
I was in the neighborhood walking towards home after some christmas parties when by luck I came upon this restaurant. Officially I have 7th day adventist diet, which says "breakfast like a king, lunch like prince and dinner like a pauper" meaning very small dinners. But on my way through the heart of the city, I kept smelling food coming out of restaurants, but my diet is 100% vegan. So I was in the mood to break that small dinner big lunch rule. Upon entering the manager/maiterd said "you know we are vegan" and I said "great, I dont eat anything that swims, crawls or flies or has a mother." They gave me the option to sit where I wanted, the upstairs was completely packed save for one table, things were tight up there, so I chose a seat downstairs with more room. I was ready to talk food when the waiter came by, but instead he said "wait a moment" and had me work with his trainee, super nice but there just a few days, maybe their 1st day. I kept interfacing with him so wasnt happy to be given the other person. So after speaking to both of them I started with the Port Beef Bourguignon 32. Went to the bathroom and somehow thought I locked the door and male staff member with a beard opened the door. At this point I was pissed about the service and was going to say something, but trying to be Buddhist I waited for the right moment. So then I overheard my initial waiters name is Jose. So stared calling him by name. And I said I loved the server in training but I want to work with you. So he corrected that. I then saw the manager knocking on what appeared to be the kitchen door. So I said to Jose "aha, lets have the best practices of staff be to knock on the bathroom door before opening it." Later someone from upstairs couldnt find the bathroom and was directed to it and i said "be sure to lock the door." I had the Wild Mushroom 19

And that the chef went to theri table and not mine, not plussed. There is a wonderful full story tile mural on the stairway to the second floor and a domed skylight, nice. Sadlly the place is not open for lunches.

This is their meat brand: https://www.chunkfoods.com/ it lists "Chunk is made with water, cultured soy protein (defatted soy flour, soy protein isolate, gluten), coconut oil, natural flavors, beet juice concentrate color, iron, salt, vitamin B12." like to know what those flavors are. Also would be nice to have a gf option too. in fact, i would not be surprised if the package actually listed ingredients in more detail than the website-but if wrong, would be pleasantly surprised if these ingredients are all the ingredients---but those "natural flavors"......Also, to their credit I walked in and said "I dont have a reservation, can I eat here?" And despite it being packed they said "yes." The food was so tasty and well done, I thought, "if I can get food like this, Ill go to Spain---basque country in the near future."

Fun French And Spanish Fusion Fine Dining - Edit
Le Basque is inspired by Basque with a playful fusion of traditional French and Spanish cuisines.
Read morePickle and Brine: Guindilla peppers, manzanilla, gordal, kalamata, arbequina, pearl onions, anchovies, marcona almonds, piquillo peppers, caper berries. Absolutely incredible! I usually don't like olives or capers and really enjoyed these. I never had a caper berry before!
Wild Mushroom Pintxos Skewers: Chanterelle, oyster, wood ear, crimini, and hen of the woods mushrooms, tarragon porcini cream, aged balsamic. So savory and creamy! Highly recommend!
Faux Gras: Smoked lentils, sage infused butter, white wine, poached apples, toasted sourdough. A delicious balance of richness and brightness.
Grilled Chicken Paella: Bomba rice, chorizo, saffron, garlic, white wine, piquillo peppers, confit sunchokes, cilantro.
Port Beef Bourguignon: Braised @chunk_foods beef, port wine sauce, heirloom carrots, pearl onions, crimini mushrooms, yukon potatoes. So tender and savory. I am obsessed with this dish!
Overall, each dish was delicious with the pintxos and beef bouguignon as my favorites! A couple new restaurant service fumbles to iron out but overall the staff is nice, eager and trying! I highly recommend checking it out!

Beautiful space, great meal - Edit
This is a great, splurge-y place to come for a celebration or a special night out. The food is fantastic, but I have to admit it was a little heavy. This is entirely my fault: I over-ordered and over-ate! But keep it in mind when you’re there. This region of the world doesn’t skimp on rich ingredients, so you’ll be leaving full. Pace yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for a to-go bag, especially if you want dessert. I regret not asking to take my leftover brioche after it was cleared, haha!
Read moreThe bread platter and cheese board are excellent starters, and great to pair with a fancy cocktail (I forget the name of mine but it was smoked with palo santo and fantastic). We also shared the escargots, which were great but IMO didn't need the cheese. I was expecting my bourguignon to be a stew, but it was deconstructed on the plate which, while not what I anticipated, was fun and tasty. I also tasted one companion’s chicken paella (excellent) and the other’s skewers (fantastic), tomato salad (very good but will be better in summer), and lentils (outrageous).
An auspicious beginning from the newest offering in this restaurant group. I will be excited to return!

Amazing French vegan!!! - Edit
Guy has done it again with a beautiful interior and even more beautiful and tasty dishes. Better (and a bit different) than the other vegan French in the city. Favorite dishes were:
Read morePate: all three were crazy good
Brioche bread: baked in house, don’t miss out on this option
Vegan butter: knock-outs. I’m still dreaming about them. Especially the olive one. WOW.
Cheese board: best one in the city IMO.
Escargot: Super cool. Delicious and without the rubber texture.
Salmorejo: It tastes like the perfect gazpacho with some v blue cheese and v ham with the perfect buttered toasted bread on the side. My favorite dish of the night.
Chicken paella: Coming back from spending a month in Barcelona in the summer, this did that dish justice for sure. Straightforwardly good since vegan chicken so closely mimics real chicken these days.
Blue oyster mushroom steam: good portion, well balanced, simple and yum.
Desserts: the cheesecake was perfection- not too dry, perfectly sweetened, the right texture. The entremet aux noisettes were like perfect giant ferrara rochers but soft enough to slice with a fork. Perfect French desserts from my perspective.
The only dishes I was underwhelmed by, and may be beyond the chef’s control are some of the vegan meats I tried. The vegan steak and beef were just not the flavors I was hoping for as a vegan of 9 years who did previously enjoy the flavor of meat. I will never be eating meat again and I’m confident that one day we will get the perfect vegan steak flavor, just like we’ve mastered vegan chicken, vegan bacon, vegan cheese, and vegan egg (at his other restaurant Anixi).
