Great little place offering a delicious 3-course Menu of the Day. We had the lentil dahl and melon gazpacho (phenomenal--wish we had gotten more of this). Mains were breaded mushrooms with cheeze sauce and fries (excellent), and tofu with soba noodles. The deserts were also a delicious chocolate cake and a "nutilla" which I think was a sort of custard. Both we delicious and we left with our bellies very full and happy. We got a tortilla on the side and it was the best vegan tortilla we ever had.

Just had the three-course menú del día for dinner and loved it! Very friendly service, they speak English as well, but veing able to communicate in Spanish really seemed to do the trick here (as it always goes when in Spain or Euskadi. Very affordable too, I only spent around 25 e although I had a glass of wine with each course. Definitely recommended!

The food was unique and wonderful. We enjoyed the red Dahl soup, tofu and soba noodles, bread, salad, Philly cheese steak, fries and chocolate cake. And every bite was delicious. It’s one of those meals you savor. We celebrated our 17th anniversary here and couldn’t be happier about our choice. The service was great and friendly.

We had the menu del dia, which was really good value for 3 courses. The menu was only in Spanish but the staff were very friendly and translated everything for us. We had the tofu soba noodles and the curry rice. We were too full for desert so they let us take it away.

The name sounded familiar somehow, and indeed it turned out that I had already visited La Piparra on a couple of occasions when they were located in Zaragoza. While their previous venue looked more casual and perhaps focused on activism, their current restaurant feels slightly hip, but in no way exclusionary. Given the shortage of vegan establishments in Bilbao at this point, this place (a few minutes from previously all-veg Txukrut) is certainly a great addition. As such, I am delighted to welcome them to my hometown.
Read moreI got a chance to visit them twice. The first time round, the fare was enjoyed by me and my omni friend, who just like me, appreciated some surprises for their taste buds. The second type I just dropped by in an effort to quickly fill my tummy and support a vegan business. They were out of a different sandwich that was my number one priority, but the Philly steak proved to be a suitable replacement.
Truth to be told, this is a bit more expensive than before but in tune with the prices one can find at Garibolo, for instance. In other words, no need to panic, I don't think. Personally, I am also happy to pay for dishes that I can't easily find elsewhere, but I just hope La Piparra will go its on way and won't fall for uniformity or, ahem, cultural imperialism. There's enough brownies and doughnuts, not to mention hamburgers and guacamole, as it is.

When I went there (mid-afternoon on a Sunday) was not a lot of choice and the one front of house member seemed a bit stretched. From the set menu, there were only a couple of options available and neither were particularly exciting. I'm not sure if this is a common occurrence or just got unlucky as some of the unavailable items seemed more interesting. The quesada for dessert was tasty, but not enough to prevent me leaving feeling a bit underwhelmed.
