A Serene Voyage - Edit
On this glorious morning, I learnt something slightly peculiar about myself – I wasn’t quite aware of how much I have an affinity with unexpectedly placed faux flora. Although I do think it would take someone of very sullen disposition to not be at least mildly taken by the artificial tree that dominates the heart of this restaurant’s dining space – it should feel incongruous, yet it just seemed right. No doubt the towering ceilings and the extensive wall of glass that avail one of both an impressive view across the bay and streams of delicate morning light have their part to play in grounding this centrepiece. Altogether, these component parts created a harmonious setting which evoked an almost immediate sense of serenity. Aesthetics and ambience are by no means an indicator as to the overall quality of a place, but they certainly don’t hurt.
Read moreSuitably zen, I turned my attention away from the windows (and the plastic plant life) to focus on the real reason for my being here: the food. At first glance, I did have my concerns about the depth of choice that would be offered; the spread itself appeared to be too compact to be sufficiently stocked with appropriate options. It didn’t take much sleuthing for these fears to be roundly allayed, however, as this proved to be a veritable bijou bounty.
While the range of dishes caught my attention, it was the standard of them that held it. Otherwise, pedestrian dishes, such as the balila, were treated with obvious respect, which in turn elevated them from mundane to marvellous. Whether it was simple roasted pumpkin or more complex vegetable noodles, everything I had was of exemplary quality and equally fantastic flavour. And the crowning glory? Why, onion rings for breakfast, of course!
It’s fair to say that while this might not have been the most lavish or extensive buffet I have encountered, it certainly left a resoundingly positive impression.
