Delightful Japanese food with romantic ambiance

This is my first visit to this vegan Japanese restaurant and the food and service were impressive and memorable. This restaurant is located at the ground floor of a well-furbished building and the decor and ambiance of this restaurant are generally warm and intimate as the lighting was quite dim, making it rather romantic for couples to dine in. The restaurant was already partially filled with diners when we entered at around 6pm.

We ordered Passion Fruit Kafel, Mango Sushi, Potato Wedges, Tempeh Fried Rice and Choco Cup Cake, and there is a 10% service charge and 6% tax imposed. Do note that the portion of each dish is generally small and mouthful, yet the dishes are crafted to be delectable to indulge in. The Potato Wedges and Mango Sushi were mouth-watering and I would love to repeat the order of these two dishes. I did not like the Passion Fruit Kafel as it tasted like carbonated soft drink with the fizz. The Tempeh fried rice was delicious too. The Choco Cup Cake was mediocre as this dessert was not our intended order.

At the time of our dining, it was disappointing that the Creme Brûlée Mini Cheesecake had been sold out as I had specifically chosen this restaurant just for the vegan version of this dish. I am hoping that on my next visit to this restaurant, this unique dessert would be available. As the menu is quite extensive, there are many other food which I would love to try such as noodles and porridge, perhaps on my next visit. All in all, this restaurant deserves to be highly recommended as the quality of each dish and ambiance are almost equivalent to that of fine dining, yet the food prices are highly affordable.

Pros: Delectable food, Attentive service, Romantic ambiance

Cons: Unavailability of Creme Brûlée Mini Cheesecake, Portions are small

Hidden gem with amazing flavors 🍣✨

Everything was really good — my favorite was definitely the crispy potatoes! I loved the vibe of the restaurant. It’s tucked inside a larger building on the left, so it can be a little bit tricky to find. A great spot for delicious vegan Japanese food in Kuala Lumpur.

Excellent Vegan Experience

Before I comment on the excellent food, I need to point out the toilets situation which is a shared facility with the office building in which restaurant is co-located. The toilets are basically filthy. A big disappointment after a wonderful culinary experience. Getting back to the food, we had the Hand Cut Potato Wedges, the Spongy Tofu, the Seaweed Fried Rice, and the All-in-One (10pcs). All were delicious. We also had a Passion Fruit Kaffel. Excellent service. Lovely ambiance. Good pricing too. Modest portions.

Excellent vegan fusion food

Fantastic vegan fusion place in KL.

They offer lots of vegan choices in terms of rice, noodle, salads and sushi dishes.

Their Kusa ramen is one of the best I’ve tried so far! Definitely recommend trying it.

Prices are pretty reasonable for a more upscale place but not expensive though.

Friendly and very fast service.

Lots of tables inside to sit at and no reservation needed.

Pros: Excellent vegan food, Friendly and fast service, Cashless payment

Cons: Prices are a bit higher than usual

Extensive menu… a bit pricey though

impressive, extensive menu - amazing when you’re missing Japanese dishes that you used to enjoy before going vegan. Service was efficient and friendly, and the food came quickly.

We enjoyed the Tempura Miso Ramen, Kusa Ramen, and Popcorn Mushroom. Our six-year-old (who’s always been vegan) enjoyed the Kids Plate, so much so that he finished two of them in one sitting. According to him, it’s “the yummiest sushi I’ve ever tried!” 😄 Also great that they have dessert, although their cupcakes are only about half the size of the vegan ones in Australia, but priced the same.

Overall, it was a good experience. Looking at the menu before ordering, I was thinking we’d be going back every day/night we’re in KL, but considering the price and the number of options around, probably not.

Excellent food

We tried the large sushi platter and the miso ramen. They were both delicious and beautifully presented. Lovely interior and everything was stylish too.

The desserts were a bit of a miss but nonetheless still enjoyed.

The best food in KL

Incredibly delicious food - the best vegetarian /vegan that KL has to offer. Even if you are not a vegetarian, I highly recommend a visit to Kusa to try their food. Must try - Jealousy Soup, Kusa Ramen (customised according to your spice tolerance), fried tofu, sushis and the inari. Great service too. We have dined here and ordered many times for home delivery - the food quality has been consistently top notch! Thanks to the Kusa team.

Pros: Jealousy Soup, Kusa Ramen, Sushi

Absolutely delicious!

The ramen, sushi, noodles, and fried rice were all amazing. Honestly, we haven’t had vegan Japanese food this good—even during our trips to Japan. Everything was perfectly cooked and so satisfying. Highly recommend!

Healthy vegan food. But beware of their off menu promo tactics

Unless you are vegan with a light palette and do not like mock meat, then you will enjoy the food. Service wise, be careful when they recommend their off menu items. Remember to check the price and don't assume it to be on par of their regular menu items. We were recommended a drink off the menu. All their drinks average RM9. That off menu drinks was small in portion and cost RM22. Which is the cost of their mains! Definitely not worth it. My fault for not checking on the price. Valuable lesson though.

Very nice vegan sushi

Somehow I’d missed this on previous trips to KL, but I looked it up and decided to get a takeout to head to the airport with because you aren’t getting vegan food at KLIA! The food was very well presented with an attractive menu and a decent price. No fake meat/fish/egg which I’ve seen work well in other places. The strawberry sushi was interesting. Overall food was very good but nothing that was truly exceptional. Will go back though.

Pros: Restaurant set-up, Location, Menu

Excellent food

Less than a 30 minute walk from my hotel this was nestled in a quiet neighborhood. I came here for dinner and I want disappointed, excellent food, great service and ambience. Will come again if I get the chance. Btw the seaweed wrapped fried rice was out of this world.

Stylish place in an interesting gritty area

Unfortunately I only visited this place once. To get here I took a monorail to Bukit Bintang train station and walked via Changkat. When I walked through Changkat, it seemed to be a gritty area filled with many massage parlours with pushy sellers outside offering their services. Contrasting with the neighbourhood it was in, Kusa Japanese had a premium feel inside and was cool and stylish. The Japanese food was great, especially the mango sushi.

Amazing experience

The food here is just unbelievable! If we were in Kuala Lumpa for longer we'd eat here every night to work through the entire menu, but alas, the one visit is all we have, but what a visit! Fantastic service, and like I mentioned before, food that just jumps off the menu and into your mouth. We enjoyed all of this delightful cuisine washed down with a wonderful pot of green tea (though there are so many other wonderful drinks available). All in all, so glad we found this place and had the pleasure to experience it 💚

Pros: Food, Drinks, Service

Cons: None

Lovely lunch

I was early and the first customer of the day so there wasn't a lot of ambience but the food was served very quickly and was fresh and very tasty. Great to have so much choice and dessert too!

Pros: Choice of fresh dishes, Choice of desserts , Clean modern and slightly quirky decor

Cons: Portions are quite small
