Culinary Delights. - Edit
The entire menu is dairy-free and gluten-free!
Read moreI'm so impressed by the main menu - they list the vegan dishes on top and steak on the bottom. Something about this made me so happy. Vegan dishes should always be first.
Only drawback of this place: Table placement. The two seater tables are so intimately close together you can hear every word of conversation of the people on both sides of you. The people next to me were talking about their relatives suicide. I'm like, I'm just tryna eat this fruit salad. It was a bizarre dining experience to have such happy things in your mouth and such sad things in your ears. It's mystifying to me how a James Beard award-winning restaurant can get the food to perfection yet get the ambience so wrong.
Review of menu items themselves:
The Summer Fruit Salad steals the show. It's a masterpiece. This little fruit salad is one of the best dishes I've had in my life. I'm so thankful to have tasted this dish. The selection and combination of the specific fruits. In particular, the inclusion of grilled pineapples. The sauce! Omg the sauce! It has a zing to it. Each bite is different. The symphony of flavors in your mouth is mind blowing. It's perfectly combined fruit flavors with a particular spicy zing that I can't place. I couldn't place the spice. But it was perfection. They'd be wise to make this a regular menu item.
Peanut Creamed Greens were Delightful. The boiled peanuts and peanut sauce were wonderful. I would have liked it a little more spicy, but I like things spicy.
The Diri Ak Let Kokoye, just being brutally honest, was a $16 bowl of rice. Yes, it tasted good. Just know this is meant to be ordered in combination with other dishes.
Smoked Wildtype Salmon. Wasn't sure what to make of this menu item and asked the waitress. It's salmon made from the stem cells of a salmon. While not technically vegan because that stem cell originated from a salmon who was forced to give its life, " wild type" a/k/a stem cell salmon could save the lives of millions of others. I know PETA has been pushing for stem cell meats for decades. I was intrigued but not brave enough to try it.
The Baked Haiti needed more spiced pineapple and basil. I regret getting it. The waitress said the vegan sundae is the best dessert item and I should have gotten that.
Note: Reservations are preferred but not required. Walkins are welcome. You won't have much luck on a Friday or Saturday, but it's worth a try on a week night.

Great birthday dinner - Edit
I was able to snag a reservation the week of my birthday when I saw in their Instagram stories that they had openings later in the week. This was our second time eating here, a year later. It was another amazing meal but mostly different menu items than before which was even better. I love eating foods with heat and Kann delivers. Having a separate vegan menu with so many options is just superb. We ordered extra to bring home leftovers because who knows when we’ll be able to get a reservation again. Definitely a great place to go for special occasions.

Vegan tasting menu - Edit
My mixed party of six (3 omni, 2 veggie, 1 vegan) ordered mostly vegan plates to share.
Read moreThe vegan tasting menu seemed to be a substantial, robust sampling of the full menu.
Great flavors. Despite having a couple meat dishes in play, the table favorites were vegan: a soup and a charred vegetable plate.
Less expensive than I'd imagined, and as a vegan I felt like a full citizen here.
Pros: Flavors, Mannered but friendly, helpful staff, Not pretentious (well...in a fun way)

Would give 5 stars if I could! - Edit
Holy moly. The reason we came to Portland was to eat at @kannrestaurant and...the hype is real...it was amazing!!! Easily one of our top meals ever. Everything is gluten free and dairy free, and they have a full vegan menu with multiple options for each course, including two vegan dessert options. The flavors of everything were excellent. Most dishes had a little kick to them, so if you can't handle spice, beware (but we liked it). Their zero proof cocktails are so interesting and good that you don't miss the alcohol. Our bill for two people was $143, but that included four drinks, a dessert, and more food than we could even finish (the portions are not stingy). Considering the quality of the food, service, and attention to detail, it's easily worth it. If you get the chance, go here!

Lives up to the hype! Lots of vegan options! - Edit
This place is amazing. Beautiful interior design. The Haitian food is so wonderfully spicy and unique. Ask for the vegan menu.
Read moreWe started with the warm plantain brioche buns with vegan butter. Fantastic. Do not skip these.
We also started with the Bannan Peze which are fried plantain slices with avocado and spicy picked cabbage.
The wood fired cauliflower was great. Carry spicy and flavorful.
Get about 3 dishes per person.
For dessert I got the spice chocolate ganache tart which comes with the most delicious peanut butter ice cream I’ve ever had.
Pros: Full vegan menu, Awesome cocktails, Save room for dessert
