An excellent start to Yunnan trip with authentic vegetarian - Edit
We visited on our first night in Yunnan upon touching down in Kunming in the afternoon. As we were planning to visit Kunming old street, we found this restaurant to be the closest to Kunming old Street as well as the Wu Yi metro station. The food was excellent, and we took lots of phots inside the traditional setting of the restaurant. We definitely recommend this restaurant to all who visit Kunming.
Read moreJust to note that the location in the HappyCow map is in accurate (more than 10 minutes walk away from actual location). We had to use amap which gave us a much more accurate location and brought us directly to the restaurant.

They have a wide range of Yunnanese dishes, with lots of mushrooms, tofu and mock-meat (and stinky tofu if you're feeling adventurous!). The food tastes really good and the portions are large.

Authentic taste of Yunnan - Edit
Great tasting food with lots of veggies, mushrooms and tofu dishes cooked in traditional Yunnan cuisine style. Uses a lot of local ingredients and food flavors are inspired from different places from around the province.

Pretty good SW Chinese vegan food - Edit
I paid 70 yuan ($10) for two mains and a dessert. Free tea was included with the meal. It's pretty good vegan food and you order through your phone so the menu is translated into English when you see it on WeChat/Alipay. Lots of chili and Sichuan pepper in the dishes. They were super tasty but a bit oily.
Read moreThe menu didn't have much description of the dishes (ingredients etc) apart from the name or the photo so you kind of had to guess if you're not familiar with the typical plates. And the "reccomended" section of the menu is just westernized stuff which was kind of annoying. But I enjoyed and was able to relax knowing everything was vegan, whereas during the day I was a bit stressed trying to communicate at street food places, trying to make sure what I ordered didn't have meat.
If you're willing to pay a bit more, I reccomend this as a sit down lunch or dinner place. Portions are huge so better to come with people to share. It's about 10 min walking from either green (huashan west Rd) or pink line (wuyi rd) metro stations.

Down an alley / side street, restaurant is very well decorated inside and out. Ordered Mapo tofu and tea tree mushrooms, both very nice. Order via AliPay/WeChat. Good prices, dishes 25-40RMB.

I found this restaurant while checking the Chinese map app 高德地图, it's located close to 五一路 (Wuyilu) metro station.
Read moreBoth the outside and the interior are beautifully decorated, the seating is very cozy.
They have a huge variety of vegan dishes including vegetables, noodles, tofu, meat replacements, dumplings, steamed buns, drinks, desserts etc.
Tea is free! Portion sizes are reasonable but price is in the higher range compared to other Chinese restaurants.
One orders by scanning the QR-code on the table and the menu has many pictures.
