Great cats and cake but bad coffee

Me and GC needed more of a cat fix, so we decided to also go to java whiskers.

The cats here are up for adoption and they have apparently(according to a plaque between the cafe and cat lounge area) homed 903 cats so far, which is brilliant.

The place is much nicer than the last cafe we were in but also seemed less relaxed at least in the entrance/cafe part.

The place itself was really nicely put together but was a bit hot (probably to make the cats feel more comfortable).

I found the main person who told us the rules very hard to follow as she spoke at a very high speed. She was nice but it was a bit frustrating trying to figure out what's being said.

The cats were mostly relaxing around the place and most let you interact with them as long as you didn't disturb them too much. As one of the male guests found out, the main entrance cat scratched him fairly deeply, the cat had seemed fairly overwhelmed earlier as everyone stroked him when entering the room and the guy even admitted he had outstayed his welcome🙄. So basically don't keep annoying them as they may scratch if overstimulated.

We got a cake and a hot drink each, I got shocking no one an oat milk latte and a carrot cake. GC got a pot of tea and a slice of banana bread.

The tea and loaf were nice and I really liked the carrot cake but the coffee....wow it was bad, I added some of the oat milk GC wasn't using and it made it a bit better but I think it was the worst I've had in a long time.

Overall this place was really good and worth visiting, I especially liked one of the black cats and was getting a bit too attached near the end of our time their.

The price was a bit high £60 ish I think, including the booking(you had to book paying the full price online). But seeing as some of it goes directly to helping the cats upkeep it's worth it.

Gorgeous cats and delicious cakes!

Our holiday is almost over so I needed something to make me feel better. We decided on going to a cat café again. This one focuses on rehoming the cats that they have, so each cat is available to adopt and no-one of them are permanent residents.

We paid for 85 minutes with the cats. I got a pot of tea with oat milk, and a slice of banana bread. I also tried some of Purp's oat latte, and carrot cupcake.

The tea was very nice, and both cakes were delicious. Everything that's vegan is clearly labelled. I hated the latte. It tasted like soap to me for some reason, I have never experienced that with coffee before so I'm really not sure what caused it.

The cats were all friendly and seemed well cared for. One thing that concerned me was that one of the cats scratched a man's hand when he was petting it, and it cut open his palm and he was bleeding a lot (it was maybe a 2 inch cut). He laughed it off and said that it was his fault for overstaying his welcome, and I wasn't in the room when it happened so I didn't see if he was handing the cat roughly or anything like that, but it's worth bearing in mind that the cats may lash out if they're overstimulated or annoyed.

Pros: Beautiful cats, Delicious cakes, Aims to have the cats adopted

Cons: Coffee tasted like soap

Cuteness Overload

This was my first time at a cat cafe and I loved it! It was very clean and the cats were adorable. One sat on my lap for a while and I fell in love 🥰 There were a range of vegan options and my Muffin was delicious 👌🏾

Adorable!!

Everything is veggie/vegan and loads of gluten-free options. Cats are very happy and staff are great at ensuring customers respect the cats. Will definitely visit again!

Nice experience

It was nice however, the food itself wasn't great. As a cat owner myself I can understand it costs a lot especially with so many cats and kittens but the food and drinks should at least be good. Most of the staff were super nice except for one guy who I thought was super rude and the way he spoke was just unpleasant.

Java Whiskers

Lovely cafe and concept, awesome cats. I counted at least 11 vegan dessert items, though I did not check for savory. I had the red vegan cookie and it was tasty, but I wouldn't order that again, as the other options are more interesting. I've had the matcha latte with oat milk before and enjoyed it. You can pop in here to order food/drinks for takeaway or you can make a reservation to hang with the cats. Definitely recommend you make a reservation if you want to hang out with the cats. Make sure you book a time when cats are typically active or you'll be staring at sleepy cats.

Limited menu and expensive

£4.50 for a vegan donut and only one vegan savoury option (grilled sandwich). No thanks.

Cats and Vegan Sweets

First, NOT EVERYTHING IS VEGAN.
They do have plenty of vegan drink and sweet options. I believe they have vegan food too, but I didn't check.
Even if you're not there to see the cats (located in the back rooms), you can still stop in to buy from the cafe. I had a raspberry brownie and red velvet cupcake. Both were super sweet. The cat room books up fast, so book online in advance to spend time with the rescues. They are all up for adoption.
Great experience. #Veganuary
