Best vegan place in Kyoto! - Edit
I went there multiple times!
Read moreThey don't have many options but all of them are really good!
I talked to one of the staff members (they speak English really well) and she was also vegan. She could give me some tips for vegan food in Japan and she was really kind.
The location itself is also really nice.
Definitely recommend going there!
Pros: tasty food, friendly staff, nice location

This restaurant is a great spot — beautiful setting, delicious vegan cuisine, very reasonable prices, and a warm welcome. In short, don’t hesitate! Plus, the online booking system works perfectly — fast and super efficient.

Best all-vegan restaurant in Kyoto - Edit
Do yourself a favor and eat a meal here! It was so good we came here twice during our visit to Kyoto, even though it's a little out of the way from the Kyoto tourist center. The thick fried tofu dish especially stands out, but seriously everything was wonderful. 10/10!

Very Good - Edit
Everything was very good. Limited menu and they did not have sushi. Very relaxed environment so expect slow service.

Worth the trip here - Edit
The food was incredible. A mix of daily specials and the existing menu. Cash only so make sure to bring cash. The ginger tea was delicious and the setting is a beautiful traditional house.

Excellent, just make sure to make a reservation - Edit
There is really nothing negative to say about Itadakizen. The food is great and worth the price in my opinion, the service is professional, and the vibe is classy. It does require reserving at least 3 days in advance, so make sure to do so.

a must go - Edit
this was kind of a treat yourself meal, as you need a reservation and it’s a little bit pricier than most places, but well worth it. i ordered the dolsot bibimbap, tofu steak, ginger tea, and their ice cream with plum sauce. ambience was there, flavors were there, service was there. really a nice experience!

Lovely - Edit
Had a lovely dinner here and I was generally pleased with our order. However, the hot stone bibimbap didn’t meet my expectations as the stone wasn’t hot enough to crisp the rice at the bottom. Additionally, I think that a bit louder music would have enhanced the ambience which was somewhat awkward with everyone listening in to each other’s conversation.

Perfect Japanese dining experience! - Edit
We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews and we weren't disappointed.
Read moreThe restaurant a traditional wooden Kyoto 'house' in a quiet residential area. The interior is beautiful - understated and elegant (and the choice of background music was perfect too).
The menu is somewhat limited but like many people there we decided to order a variety of side dishes and one main rice bowl.
All dishes were delicious and flavourful. We particularly loved the fried courgette, smoked tofu, and the rice bowl.
Highly recommended if you want to enjoy fantastic Japanese food in a traditional Kyoto setting then this is the place to go.
Pros: Everything!, The restaurant
Cons: Menu is a little limited

The place is tucked away in a little machiya and was so cool. The food was also great. The seasonal broccoli dish was my favorite. I also loved the bibimbap and emmen. The black sesame pudding was also incredible.

A Great Stop - Edit
At the recommendation of other reviewers, I went to make a reservation for dinner at this spot. On the website, it only offered a 13:00 time, so we reserved that for lunch. When we stopped by, we were surprised that there was nobody else there. So, not sure if it was an off day for them, or if their reservation system wasn't updated?
Read moreRegardless, the food was lovely. The emmen noodle bowl had a great savory flavor and more veggies than expected. The bibimbop was a little smaller than we would have liked (or are used to with our own American cooking style), but it was still densely packed with rice and thinly sliced veggies. This was the first time in a while I felt nearly full after a meal while traveling. Would definitely come here again.

Beautiful food - Edit
The staff here are warm, welcoming and English speaking.
Read moreThe menu is small but interesting Japanese food.
Be aware that food can take some time as I believe there is a small staff who cook everything to order - but that was not a bad thing to me when the food is so delicious and beautifully cooked as it was. We enjoyed it so much that we asked to make another reservation a few nights later so we pretty much tried the whole menu over the two visits and everything was great.
I recommend you make a reservation because this restaurant is small.

Be mindful that the menu is in Japanese so we used google translate, which wasn't an issue for me..
I am staying in Kyoto for another 4 days so will be going back!!!

1.5 hour wait - Edit
The food was tasty and fresh, but nothing unusual or unique. We waited almost 40 minutes for appetizers and almost an hour and a half for the main entree. I’m surprised that this place got so many good reviews as the service and exceptional wait time were not acceptable during my visit.

Incredible sake menu - Edit
Cute little place but unless you are very lucky, you need to book. Only seats about 14 and on the night we went there were people already queuing to get in. Food was traditional and delicious. Lighting was very conducive to a romantic dinner. Sake menu was extensive and wonderful.
