Mediocre vegan bistro - Edit
We were a bit disappointed after all the good reviews, because the 3 dishes we had were quite disappointing. The porcini risotto was not bad but just didn’t have a lot of taste and wasn’t especially creamy. The lasagne was super soft and had barely any seitan. The cheese on top was also nothing special. The Béchamel was quite good at least. For dessert we got the tiramisu, which was the best out of the 3 and had a very good consistency. It basically only lacked the coffee taste, which I don’t understand as it is one of the few original tiramisu ingredients that are already vegan. All in all it’s not bad, especially considering the very limited vegan options in Florence.

I loved this little spot. The owners are on site and very lovely. One, Stefano, is front of the house and the other is the chef. Fantastic service and a great menu with lots of options. Many traditional Italian items that I knew and some I wanted to try. I had the lasagna, the crepes, and my daughter had the seitan Goulash. We also shared a tiramisu. Everything was really flavorful and filling. The tiramisu was so good! These guys are in it for the animals and have been in the very difficult business of running the first vegan restaurant in Florence for 11 years. Go support this beautiful place! Oh, and the whole menu is also available with photos on the walls so you can choose by seeing. Thank you for 2 amazing meals and your love for animals and the planet.

The prices were also very reasonable. The staff were friendly and very helpful too.
If you're looking for tasty and affordable vegan food in Florence, I definitely recommend this place!

I ordered a seitan lasagna that had no seitan. It also tasted like it had been heated up in a microwave. Fake cheese on top with overcooked noodles and bland sauce.

What can I say? Our lasagna is famous and delicious, and is cooked exactly as per our proven and renowned recipe. In fact, EVERYONE likes it. It contains a lot of Seitan, it is cooked on the spot in the oven (we don't have a microwave), the cheese is vegan and absolutely good and tasty.

We went to Il Vegano on a rainy Monday afternoon. This restaurant is casual, very chill and friendly, not too far from the historic town centre. At 1:30PM on a Monday there was plenty of space, so no need to make a reservation. I got the tagliatelle with seitan ragout and my partner got a the trofie pasta with pesto. We got a ginger beer and a lemonade and a tiramisu for dessert. The food was tasty with generous portions.

We visited on a Thursday lunchtime and were pleased with the amount of food options on the menu. We both had a different risotto each and shared the croquettes. All were really delicious. We had a half carafe of wine and also got a cheesecake to takeaway. It came to about 48 euros in totallyly which was really reasonable for the portion sizes. It was quiet when we went which was a shame - more people need to visit and enjoy this place!

No working toilet at the time of visit, not ideal. However, asparagus risotto and lasagne for mains which was really tasty!! Tiramisu was good but not enough coffee flavour and the raspberry cheesecake was divine!! Would definitely go back.

Das Il Vegano bietet eine große Auswahl an komplett veganen Speisen. Unsere beiden Gerichte waren in Ordnung, schmeckten aber eher aufgewärmt und hatten auf dem Teller auch die entsprechende Form. Eine kleinere Karte mit dafür frisch gekochten Gerichten würde dem Il Vegano Charme verleihen.

Great for Vegan Dinner in Florence - Edit
This restaurant has a great range of vegan options for dinner. We had been there for a few dinners as it was convenient and nice to know thay everything would definitely be vegan. Everything i tried was quite nice for the price. I do wish they offered pizza but maybe that's something to add in the future. I also wish they opened earlier as I usually eat dinner earlier than Italians traditionally do but that's just an issue as me as a tourist. In Italy you pay a service charge to eat in so keep that in mind.

Read moreOn one hand, the food: excellent! Quality ingredients, right portions and let me say it: finally a restaurant that doesn't overdo it with oil and salt! Amazing lasagna and for dessert the best vegan tiramisu I've ever tasted.
The place is small and informal with 80s and 90s music in the background that is very pleasant and relaxing.
Unfortunately the service has some flaws: excessively slow, some small inaccuracies and managing to call the waiter every time is always a challenge. He should be the one to come to you and not the other way around. I think the problem could be easily solved by increasing the staff.

Ciao! Siamo contenti che il cibo e il locale ti siano piaciuti! Devo però farti notare che il giorno in cui sei venuto c'era una sola persona a servire tutta la sala, perchè l'altra era malata e non c'è stato il tempo di trovare un sostituto. In questi casi basta solo avere un pò di pazienza. Inoltre noi siamo un bistrot e non un ristorante tradizionale. In genere è il cliente che deve chiamare se vuole altre cose oltre a quelle già servite. Facciamo il possibile per accontentare sempre tutti al meglio, ma nei limiti del fatto che siamo un piccolo ed economico bistrot, non un ristorante stellato.

firstly: everything we had at il vegano was delightful. what we had was very tasty and hearty: the lasagne and goulash with seitan… highly recommend. the reasons behind deducting a star were: too noisy music, smallish portions and lack of a side salad… only a few leaves of rocket. overall though the food was fab. the restaurant is very close to the accademia where david is too.
