Lovely space, fresh vibrant food - Edit
Went here twice during a short visit to Oaxaca City. The food is very fresh, well-priced, and the courtyard ambience was lovely. I gave a 4/5 rather than 5/5 because some of the dishes lacked a bit of flavor. However, it’s a great healthy option, especially in the scorching Oaxacan heat! I really enjoyed their interesting selection of aguas del dia including a corn and cucumber variety and a separate oat water with melon - both very light and refreshing flavors.

Plain good - Edit
The servers are nice but the portions are not big enough. Tried the almond mole and it was a bit spicy so non mexicans may have a little difficult time. Black mole was not spicy at all and it was good.

Good option for vegans - Edit
It’s really a hit or a miss with this restaurant. The tomato toast was absolutely amazing and the bread was very fresh. The cappuccino was also delicious. And the prices were relatively cheap. Everything seemed fresh and homemade.
Read moreBut the enfrijoladas were really plain, and the enchiladas verde had a pretty weird minty taste to them that we weren’t used to and didn’t really like to be honest. Maybe some of their other dishes are better!
There is also one dish that includes honey, so it’s not completely vegan (yet).
Pros: Amazing homemade bread, Pretty cheap, Really nice atmosphere
Cons: Serves honey

So good! - Edit
As far as I know, the only vegan restaurant in Oaxaca and it was so classy and so delicious! I wanted everything on the menu. Got a green juice and enchiladas which had a lot of potato but was super yummy.

Pleasant, food variable - Edit
First of all, the courtyard of this restaurant is quite lovely and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Some of them can speak a bit of English. The food was a bit variable. The black mole was delicious, although it was over some tortillas with a tiny bit of potato in the middle. It would have been nicer if there was more potato and maybe some other vegetables as well. The red mole was pretty good too, although not as good as the black mole. I had a traditional Zapotec dessert made from corn that was a bit more interesting than it was delicious, but this was the first time I had it so there is that. On another occasion, I got some of the carrot cake to go. It seemed to be full of whole grains and very healthy, but was not particularly dessert-like or tasty. Still, this restaurant is a good option for vegans, and one of the very few places you can go in Oaxaca and not worry about being poisoned with meat.

Hierba Dulce is a nice and relaxing place with good food/snacks. We had the avocado bread and enchiladas, both were very good. Prices are cheap, too.

VEGANS YOU MUST GO HERE! - Edit
Sunday lunch and I had to wait for a table. But that wasn't a problem because for the first time in years the menu I was given to peruse excited me. What to have on my last day in Oaxaca? Nothing disappointed. Nothing was too much trouble and I ordered to go for my flight. I'm a WFPB vegan and they use only whole foods - for health. Died and gone to heaven. Ridiculously low prices for what they serve. Only downside, I won't get to come again.

The waiter went above and beyond showing us different moles, teas and even a typical dessert- he explained it all to us and how it is typically eaten. Wished we’d have had time to come back !

Amazing! - Edit
Great place for breakfast and lunch. They cook Precolumbian food, all plant based dishes. A whole menu to choose from vegan and vegetarians options. They don't do meat or dairy of any kind :) Their home made almond milk and their vegan cheese are absolutely amazing!!!! The only place in town I know is pure vegan and cooks traditional Mexican food at the same time. Lovely service. If you are looking for vegan, plant based or vegetarian food, you MUST come to check this place out.

Had breakfast/brunch here and got the sourdough with jam and seed butter and it’s tasted both great. The staff was friendly as well and were ready to explain anything. The portion sizes were very small though and some items have honey in them.

Great little cafe set in a stone courtyard, me and my girlfriend had lunch here twice and the food was amazing, everything is locally sourced and fresh and the prices are so affordable compared to everywhere else we’ve visited in Mexico! Also the complimentary appetiser is the perfect addition.
