Good food, bad vibes

Unusual place with nice food. I’m just wondering what vegan fish alternatives have to do with wishing death to people?

It was really unpleasant to find the words ‘death to the IDF’ written on the door.

It's more unpleasant what the IDF do to Palestinians (g*nocide). It's like 'eat the rich' in sentiment. Nobody is doing cannibalism.

Very slow vegan pub

Fully vegan pub with junk food options.
Food was tasty but took over an hour for dirty fries and battered sausages and pub wasn't full.
Has a vegan fried mars bar on menu but when I tried to order it they said they haven't had it for ages and they need to take it off the menu ☹️

Amazing fish and chips

The place is a pub with a separate service of fish and chips. The food is amazing. Very tasty vegan fish, even better than the cruelty one. Absolutely recommended. U can’t miss it

too busy

They were out of the gluten-free batter. It took a while to learn this because of the ordering system. They said they’ve been busy and to try again in a few weeks. The place was dirty: menus had food on them (not just stains), and the tables were sticky. They might have also been too busy to clean. I ended up walking to #Fish — Marchmont to get fish and chips.

Pros: Friendly staff

Cons: Cleanliness could be improved

A great vibe.

This place has a great vibe with lovely food. We tried a range of items between us but the portion sizes were big and we could have easily shared. I highly recommend a visit here!

Such a fun vibe to this pub / restaurant

This place is so darn cool!! It has such a fun, hippie alternative student vibe and is technically a pub that just so happens to serve food. They have fun cocktails and great student discounts and it gets really busy as the night goes on - we spent hours here! Get early if you want a table I’d say. You order your food via WhatsApp rather than at the bar but it’s super yummy and they even do vegan mozzarella dippers !!!
Ps. The toilet is a maze to find, so tip is that it’s downstairs as literally everybody gets lost searching for it !

Decent vegan fish n chips

The food is very good, especially the “faddock” (smoky tofu fish).

I was surprised after reading reviews describing large portions. They didn’t seem overly large, particularly given the price. Additional charges (not listed on the menu) were added.

Pros: Delicious food, Many menu options , Fun environment

Cons: Very pricey

Amazing

It was delicious! The portion was also big, we ordered cheese sticks as a side and struggled to finish all of it. Being inside of a pub was an interesting setting and it was a lot for the eye to discover.

Funk fish supper was delicious!

Brill cocktail menu, super quick service ordering food over WhatsApp and massive food portion, so tasty! Would love to try other bits on the menu.

I cannot recommend this enough

The food is delicious, better than any normal chippy I've been to in my pre-vegan days. There is so much to choose from and it's so impressive and novel the way the dishes have been put together. Absolutely amazing.

Pros: Delicious food, Amazing choice, Fully vegan menu

No exaggeration hands down the best vegan fish

The service and atmosphere was next to none. Quirky beats with creative decor. The cauliflower wings were incredibly meaty, my Omni mates couldn't believe it. The lemon pole was exceptional. I've travelled the world trying vegan dishes for over 10 years, this was the best fish, cod like texture and flavour.

Pros: Homemade food, Atmosphere, Service

Cons: Order by WhatsApp

Crazy location

Only because of the location you should go there-quite "unique" 😆
An alternative pub offering also some vegan fast food options. Dog-friendly.

Must try

It’s located inside a fun pub. The ordering system is goofy but it works. This was my first time having fish and chips because I’ve never liked seafood. Not really a “fishy” taste. It was great. I wish I could go back and try the smoked faddock. They also have some other scottish delicacies like pizza crunch and haggis.

Fun vibe and amazing fish & chips

I’ve eaten here twice and loved it both times! Huge portions, and the tofush & chips are delicious. Highly recommend both the faddock and [censored] fish. I want to try the fried Oreo, but I’m always too full! Some people may be turned off by the eccentric atmosphere, but I love the vibe!

Quirky

Not a vegan pub but has a vegan food menu. The service was quick and the food was nice, personally I thought the faddock was too Smokey in flavour, so if you don’t like strong Smokey flavours go for something else. Everything else was great. It was a shame to see the fallops and falamari were no longer on the menu they had great reviews from other customers.

Pros: The service , Nice food , Great venue

Oh. My. Goddd.

You must stop here while in Edinburgh. You must.

Freaking delicious. One of the best things I’ve eaten. As soon as I read about this place I wanted to make it a point to come here and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. We got the smoked tofish option and the cauliflower bites. Incredible.

It’s in a really fun pub called the Dog House. Sit at a table with the menu on it, find what you want, and text the number via WhatsApp to order. It’s super easy.😄 was about a 12-15 minute walk from our hotel in old town.

The Best and Happiest ‘Fish’ & Chips in Scotland.

I’ve been desperate to try this place since I stumbled across the menu on Instagram (I’m so clumsy). Finally, the stars aligned with my tastebuds, and I made a point of visiting The Happy Fish on a wee birthday day out. It was a bit risqué to jump in the deep end for an occasion meal from somewhere we’d never eaten, but it was so worth it (as some of the best things in life are)! My eyes on any all vegan menu are notoriously bigger than my belly, and the same happened with The Happy Fish’s. Additionally to ordering quite a lot, the portions were generous (to say the least). It’s fair to say it’s just as well I forgot to have breakfast and lunch because I had a (welcome) challenge on my fork here!

We ordered the Smoked Faddock, Battered Jumbo Sausage Supper, Happy Fish Loaded Fries, and Fauxarella Sticks, and we also had a wee try of the ice cream selection.

There was not a weak player in the group. Everything was well prepared and cooked, packed with punchy flavour. The texture of the tofu for the ‘fish’ dishes was perfect, and the crunch and flavour of the batter — moreish. Satisfying and tasty comfort food that made our bellies happy as much as the fishes. The Fauxrella sticks are the best I've tasted (so ‘cheesy), and the dips and dressings that complimented each dish — perfection! The ice cream was an ideal and refreshing way to finish off a happy, heavy munch.

The three folks dealt with between The Happy Fish and The Doghouse were cracking people. Super friendly, helpful, attentive. I highly recommend this place - the food and service was exceptional on our short visit. Highly recommended.

Pros: Delicious food & generious portions, All Vegan Kitchen, Friendly, attentive staff

Amazing “fish” and chips

You need to order via Whatsapp, which took us a minute to realize 😅 But the person preparing the food is very lovely and the food was great! Gluten-free options also possible. Loved this place.

Good, but the dumbest ordering system

The food was good, I saw reviews for the Faddock being the best and it was the better of the two (Faddock and Funk) that we had.

You have to order via a WhatsApp text though, which is incredibly stupid and a real pain if you don't want Meta to be able to read all your data (which they've admitted they can do). Apparently you can order takeaway online though, so I'm not sure why they don't just have you order online in-person.

Anyway, 4/5 food, 0/5 ordering system.

Nothing fishy about the fish and chips

Delicious and good buy for money. The mushy peas are this die for. I got the regular fish supper and subbed in sweet potato fries. I will be bringing back every friend I know.

Pros: Delicious veg meal, Excellent service, Nice pub ambience
