Bagel deli and cafe with vegan tofu cream cheese. Also offers customizable, made-to-order bagel sandwiches. Plant-based milk alternatives available. One of several locations. Open Mon-Sun 6:00am-4:00pm.
My favorite bagels spot from the upper Westside in the 90’s. Bagels still delish, had an everything bagel toasted with avocado, tomato and vegan chive cream cheese. Was the best bagels I’ve had in a while!!
I have ordered from this branch hundreds of times during the past almost 50 years, though I have visited here less often since I changed from being vegetarian to being vegan. They offer tofu cream cheeses here (so do all NYC bagel shops), but not much else sold by H&H is vegan (except for the bagels with nothing on them).
The bagels at this shop are very good indeed and have long been a NYC fav (Barack Obama notes that he was a big H&H fan!). Their bagels still are very good, but perhaps not as great as they once were--H&H has grown bigger with more branches, but not necessarily better. My favorite NYC bagel shop now is Popup Bagels (who have branch nearby).
BTW, this H&H is the very branch that was featured in a Seinfeld episode, where Kramer worked briefly after the end of a bagel strike (there was indeed a long strike here around the late 80s early 90s).
Causal bagel spot. The interior is a bit dingy but the bagel was pretty good and the service was fast. Would like for them to offer a wider variety of tofu cream cheeses (beyond plain and scallion).
I got mine to go but there is a small seating area inside.

Pros: Good bagels!, NYC bagels are always good.
Cons: No restroom, mostly for takeout, limited vegan options
