Would have impressed me in the 90s - Edit
You can get hot food to go. It’s the same thing you’re perfectly capable of making at home. You’ll forget it as soon as you’re done.

Nice Light Menu Cafe in West Philly - Edit
Great place for light bites in this area. Very walkable and close to Clark Park. Fully vegan menu is always nice! Beautiful displays of baked goods behind glass, like a classic cafe. Never disappointed in their sweet treats! Variety of vegan breakfast and lunch sandwiches--they use tofu for the "egg" which is a nice touch and makes it feel a bit more healthful. Biscuits are very crumbly, great texture especially for vegan. Only downside of the sandwiches is that they're served in extremely hot foil wrapping--I'm talking, so hot I very nearly burned my hands just carrying it back to a table. So be careful! The ambiance in the place is a downside in general. I have nothing against heavy metal "grindcore" music but having it playing in the background of a cafe is very distracting! There is also not a lot of interior seating as they seem to do mostly takeout type business. Very beautiful mural painting inside though, which is a plus! As a cafe it does serve coffee based drinks as well, but I don't recommend these if you actually like coffee. It's the typical burnt, rancid robusto that most places serve nowadays, which is only really good for adding caffeination to a milkshake-y Starbucks style drink. I don't like it, but it's hard to dock them for it too much when it's come to be the expectation for cafes nowadays. All in all, a recommend with a few minor caveats. You'll enjoy as long as you don't hang out there while eating and drinking, and don't order the black coffee!

Amazing vegan cafe - Edit
All vegan, great vibe and taste, and importantly has enough stock of everything on menu. Best cafe for a vegan in Philly.

Pretty good spot - Edit
Roast Beast sandwich: phenomenal. 6/5
Read moreWhatever peanut butter mousse bomb thing I had the other day: very very good 5/5
Breakfast sandwiches: pretty good. 3.5/5
Other sandwiches: good. 4/5
Coffee: pretty good 3.5/5
Other desserts: good 4/5
The main issues are
- The ambiance is very ehhhh. Metal music is cool, but you’d think the space would go more all in on the theme? The space is way too bright for the metal music (the walls are white). Black/darker paint would go a long way in transforming the space. The tables are slightly too high for the booth. There’s lots of empty space. There’s a giant mural on one wall, which is cool, but then otherwise the walls are completely empty.
- They close so early!
- Service can be questionable at times? The baristas aren’t always the nicest/friendliest
Pros: Roast Beast 👹
Cons: Ambiance, Service

Amazing sandwiches, terrible service - Edit
I’ve been to grindcore house a few times, and I really love their sandwiches. They’re excellent! What’s been really disappointing, though, is how long it takes to actually get your sandwiches. No matter when I’ve gone it has taken more than half an hour to get my food, and waiting there can be pretty overwhelming with the loud music.

Metal Music + Vegan food - Edit
Street parking available. Indoor seating available. Breakfast, lunch, pastries, coffee. Different options to choose from. I was undecided and the person working here suggested the Cuban sandwich. I also overheard her suggest it to everyone else that walked in after me. At least four other people ordered it. Food takes some time to prepare so pack your patience. Wifi is available if you want to get some work done. The sandwich was crispy and tasty. I’m glad she recommended it. I also had one of their pastries. Also good. Looking forward to returning.

Breakfast sandwich was super tasty! Just was a surprise when we arrived and they were operating takeout only with a pickup window.

Perfect breakfast to go - Edit
After eyeing it in other peoples pics I had the grizzly and wasn't disappointed! Like a savory biscuit with eggy tofu bacon and cheese. Yum! Coffee was good too. Only wish we could have sat inside. There were a couple tables outside but too cold.

Great coffee, pastries and sandwiches - Edit
Crust pastries are some of the best in the city, and that Grindcore coffee absolutely kills. Their baked tofu “egg” is some of my fav egg replacement. I’d highly recommend their Grizzli sandwich (they get their biscuits for it from Miss Rachel’s Pantry). Their hoagies are also great - their Italian is the best I’ve ever had. Take-out only as of October 2022.

Incredible breakfast sandwich - Edit
As others have posted, you have to order from a window, and service is very stressed/busy - telling you up front we waited 55 minutes for two breakfast sandwiches (had a wonderful stroll at the farmer's market a block away while waiting, but we were starving by the time the food was ready). I appreciate how swamped they were - there were easily 20 waiting for their food on the sidewalk, a tiny kitchen, etc. You have to look at the menu online, which I hate, so we skimmed to make a quick decision. The one sandwich (tofu, etc on focacia) was fine, but the Grizzli, a breakfast ("bacon," etc.) on a biscuit was out of this world!

Great Breakfast Sandwich - Edit
I’m not typically a breakfast sandwich person but I ordered the The Grizzli and it was amazing. Truly. The biscuit, the tofu, the flavors… a phenomenal combo. We also enjoyed the vegan sticky bun and turmeric lattes. There is an easy online ordering system and pick-up was a snap.

How do you order from this place? - Edit
Their menu isn’t on their website so I drove to the location and there’s a menu on the window. They have their door blocked by tables so I assume you have to call to order then wait outside in the summer time for your order. I don’t want to order from a website or app and I don’t want to have to wait outside in the heat for my food to be ready.
Read moreI also needed to use a bathroom and don’t want to eat unless I’ve washed my hands. I also like to get a look at the inside of restaurants to gauge if they’re clean, at least get an idea of what the kitchen may look like by what I can observe by walking in.
This place may be OK for customers who live in walking distance. But it’s not good for those who are just in the area passing through and looking to grab vegetarian food. It’s terrible for those who want the ‘old fashioned’, personal, way of getting food.
Pros: nothing

Very nice - Edit
I ate here once a little after it just opened. It had a great selection of food and treats. I did think it looked a little too bright/sleek/modern, for a place with the Grindcore name, but that doesnt factor into the place's quality at all.

Casual vegan and vegetarian - Edit
The Grindcore House is a casual neighborhood coffee shop that serves sandwiches, salads and bakery items. There all vegan or vegetarian. Staff is super friendly and very relaxing atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable. The only downside is that they play loud heavy metal music. Despite the music I will definitely return! Highly recommend for a quick bite!
