Nice indian food & friendly staff - Edit
Very yummy, okay atmosphere, a bit dim but really nice staff. Genorous portions, I had small and it was pretty much. I also asked for more rice half way through, and they kindly gave me more.

Love it. Favourite place - Edit
If you sit in the back of the restaurant, it's even cosy. Not a place to go on a date, though, and the atmosphere is a little canteen style, but is delicious, big heaps on the plate and very good value for price. The tofu is excellent!

This location is better - Edit
Go to this one instead of their other location in Dublin. The Abbey street one is much better and also cheaper. 7€ small plate is heaped, but if you're really hungry you can get the medium for 9€. If you have two very hungry people, you might be able to finish a large plate (15€) if you split it, but it's massive. Often a vegan dessert, or you could just get a soup and some bread.
Read moreEntirely vegetarian with many vegan options. Not spicy or intensely flavored (built to be crowd-pleasing I think), but good and affordable.
Pros: Cheap, Good

Big portions, Bigger flavor - Edit
I was a regular here when I was on a trip to Dublin, very cheap for HUGE portions. Mostly vegan options, but 100% vegetarian. My friend I were able to split a small plate. If you like fancy you may not like it here but I enjoyed the home cooked, warm and homey environment. Can’t recommend enough. They even have vegan treats :-)

Really good Indian food - Edit
I went to Govinda’s several times while I was visiting Dublin. There were always quite a few vegan options. The samosas were particularly great, though they were sold out sometimes. The staff could always tell me what was vegan. I always has left overs to take with me.

Affordable filling meals - Edit
This restaurant is very handy if you're in a rush and want something filling but don't want to spend a fortune. There's only a couple of vegan options but the salads are usually always vegan. Depending on the day the dishes can be quite spicy if you're not a fan of that, it can be unpredictable. The plates are piled high and you definitely won't leave feeling hungry.

Alright - Edit
I had high hopes for this place as I love a vegan buffet type thing but there wasn’t much choice - probably better for vegetarians as most dishes had dairy in. However it was the cheapest food we ate in Dublin so if you’re travelling cheap and need to fuel up this place is great but if you’re looking for a nice meal out there’s better places to go🤷🏼♀️

Great Food For Small Price - Edit
The small plate is definitely more than enough for one person, the portion sizes are huge. Mainly the dishes are curries, however the food varies day to day and there is sometimes a pasta dish or potato bake. There are some salads as well. Make sure to let the server know if you’re vegan or non dairy as they do have some dairy dishes. Atmosphere looks a little tired but the food is great and the staff are super friendly. If you’re a budget traveller wanting to eat out - this is the place. €6.50 is a small plate but it’s definitely more than enough for one person and very filling

My husband and I each got vegan plates, and the food was healthy and delicious! Unless you have a big appetite I think that the small plate would be enough - the serving sizes are huge!

Govinda Jaya Jaya... - Edit
If Indian food usually sends your guts up the left you might be in luck here. I think all the food is Prasad (offered to Sri Krishna) so no garlic in it, which I think more people are intolerant to than realize.
Read moreWill pile the plate high and for Dublin, a very reasonable cost. It's tasty stuff. Lot of dairy, culturally these guys venerate the cow highly so expect ghee / paneer and the like to be involved.
Quite basic decor and it's an assembly line for the food, but charming none the less. Not so much fine dining, but a welcome respite for what can be an intense city.

Good Indian Food - Edit
First of all, Govinda's is covienently located in downtown Dublin, close tothe GPO Luas (light rail) stop and the O'Connell Monument.
Read moreThe food is presented in a heated display. You tell the server want you want and they plate it for you.
We were two people and ordered the medium plate (€9). We simply asked for a little of everything. Additionally, we ordered a soup, which came with bread and butter. The medium plate would be sufficient for an average meal, hungrier patrons can also order a large plate (€15). Sharing the medium plate and a soup was sufficient for the two of us. I've upgraded a photo of our meal to the site.
When we arrived at Govinda's around 18:45 for dinner, we were disappointed to learn that they had run out of their only tofu dish, which apparantly was vegetarian but not vegan.
The food was good, although fairly repetitive. It seemed that most (all?) of the dishes incorporated the same curry spice. Adding to this was the fact that all the different dishes were crammed onto one plate, eventually becoming one mixture. While the soup also had the same curry flavor, it was thick and very tasty. All that said, since Godvina's is a Hare Krishna restaurant (so no onions, garlic, leeks etc), the food good and felt authentic.
Cold tap water is available, but you need to ask the staff for a glass, and they are relatively small. Soft drinksare available for purchase.
Overall a good place for a meal in downtown Dublin, but if you can move about the city or have time, better vegi options exist in my opinion.
