Confusing.

Popped in for a quick dinner but left feeling quite underwhelmed. Firstly, it’s not clear where to go or how to order. The bar area mentions other businesses but not Golden Fleece — shared kitchen space?

I ordered the doner fries and asked what sauces were available. I was offered ketchup, and when I asked for mayo or garlic mayo, the staff member said it wasn’t vegan. This confused me, as I thought it was supposed to be a vegan venue. I have now also seen the earlier review here mentioning that dairy milk had been offered to them.

After I placed my order, the staff did check with the kitchen, and when the food was brought out, they clarified that the mayo was indeed vegan. I just found the whole experience quite confusing. Either the staff need proper training, or the venue has non-vegan items in the kitchen/bar. Either way, particularly for allergen reasons, it does need to be a lot clearer.

The food was okay, but I didn’t feel it was as good as at their other venue.

That said, it’s still early days, so hopefully the bumps will be smoothed out in time. Not one I’ll rush back to, but would like to pop in again some time and update this review.

Exceeded expectations

This place has not been open long so I went in with low expectations - but I had such a great experience and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of service and the food!

The main food menu has a variety of sides and mains, including both fake meat and vegetable focused options. The food I had was flavourful and beautifully presented. Service was quick and friendly.

They also do brunch here which I will be back to try another time!! It's rare to find a fully vegan place right in the centre of the city and it's well worth supporting.

The shop itself has a cool, relaxed vibe. The music is not too loud, and much of the seating has some really good views of the Lace market area below. This makes it great if you want to be able to take your time eating and having conversation with anyone you go with.

You order and pay at the bar and can choose to sit anywhere on the ground and first floors. It's not terribly clear when you come in but it's easy to ask a member of staff how it works. Some people have mentioned being offered dairy milk for tea etc - this is run by Molly's Coffee which does not appear to be 100% vegan, but is not related to Golden Fleece. Golden Fleece are 100% vegan!

If you like vintage/alternative clothing then you can combine your visit to eat with a look around at the clothing they have on sale. Not really my thing, but they had a variety of styles and brands.

Pros: Delicious food/flavours, Alternative vibes, Great service

That's probably the Molly Coffee House people that offered dairy as they run the front of house. they have a listing of their own on HC where I've just left a review as we only had cake and a drink. I was sure their menu said they were also fully vegan so it's worrying they offer dairy...
