Restaurante vegetariano con opciones vegan y/o platos vegan. Restaurante con comida típica de un vegetariano. Nada especial y todo bastante sencillo y para mí mejorable. Pido una ensalada, una crema de calabaza, potaje de alubias y natillas. Nada a destacar, la verdad, lo más rico la crema. Si le quieres dar una oportunidad y estás por la zona dale, aunque creo que hay mejores opciones.

Friendly staff, good vibes and some really good items on the menu. We ordered the three course menu, hearty portions (slightly on the bigger sizes) and some dishes were very tastefull, others were just good. Recommend!

The place felt welcoming and cosy and the food was delicious. The menu has clear labels on which options are vegan and which can be changed to vegan dishes when asked. The default option is the four course menu which was very reasonable priced. However, we had only the main courses and they were enough for us and we couldn’t think of eating anything else even if there were nice sounding desserts available. The waiters seemed to think otherwise. We felt a bit bad for turning down their efforts to get us to order dessert.

When I first went vegetarian, way back in the 90s, pretty much all Bilbao could offer in the way of veggie food was the unassuming Restaurante Vegetariano, located in Alameda de Urquijo, and of course, the remaining giant, Garibolo. Sadly the former shut down over a decade ago, which perhaps compelled the latter to expand its location and has now two canteens at its disposal. Now under new management after its previous owner retired, Garibolo continues to offer largely the same type of food: salads or juices as a starter, a stew, pasta or a similar dish as a main course, and a soup or cream in between. For quite some time the vegan desserts weren't many, but currently they have a choice of 3-4, which I find more than passable.
Read moreI have never thought this type of fare was going to turn meat-eaters into vegans, but I suspect that's not their intention either. They simply provide homemade, filling food that most locals are familiar with, and only recently, because of the new owner, have they started taking certain risks: zaalouk (sort of Moroccan ratatouille), a lasagne that can be veganised, or the occasional curry dish.
Most things change but Garibolo has no desire to embrace the latest trends. Instead they have chosen to follow their own traditions and policies, as per their website: 90% of their produce is fresh, local and/or organic, 5% might be frozen, and 5% might be canned. By all accounts, fresh food indeed.

Un restaurante con años de trayectoria, vegetariano con muchas opciones veganas. Comida casera y de puchero de toda la vida, buenísima. Sales con la tripa llena y con muchas ganas de volver. Siempre te ponen una botella de agua y panes variados incluidos en el precio. Servio siempre muy rápido.

Menú limitado para veganas. De las opciones que había que podían ser veganas, una ensalada me la trajeron sin salsas (ni siquiera un poco de aliño) y no tienen ningún tipo de proteína vegetal, solo verduras. No volvería ni lo recomendaría para gente vegana. Pero entiendo que quizá para vegetarianas es una buena opción.

En ese caso has tenido muy mala suerte o estás en un error. Ayer mismo visité este lugar, y tenían, aparte del aliño de mi ensalada, un buen número de bolsitas individuales con aceite y demás en la mesa. En cuanto a la proteína vegetal, tenían un estofado de alubias, y si miras el menú de hoy verás que ofrecen un potaje de lentejas. Eso sí, no creo que trabajen mucho el tofu, el tempeh o el seitán, pero proteína hay.

I went here twice for lunch while I was in Bilbao. I ordered the meal of the day both times and it was very good. It's also a good value. This restaurant has been here for a long time and it really can fill up at lunch time. You might even want to make a reservation if you are going at peak times or with several people.
