Unfortunately, very disappointing! - Edit
We chose this hotel because it was advertised as “plant-based” – meaning without any animal products. That’s why we accepted the higher price.
Read moreUnfortunately, this turned out to be untrue. When we arrived, we were told that they use honey – which is made by bees and therefore not vegan.
The problem was not just that honey was used in some dishes – it was in almost everything.
For example: burgers and anything with bread (the bread contains honey), pizza (the tomato sauce is made with honey), muesli (the yogurt has honey), tempeh with vegetables (the tempeh is marinated in honey), and many more dishes.
At breakfast (which is included), there is no buffet – you choose between 3 different dishes (at best, one of them doesn’t contain honey), and you get toast with jam, where the “jam” is actually honey – and there is no alternative available.
What’s worse is that the staff is not well-informed, and we were told different things on different days (for example, sometimes the yogurt has honey, sometimes not – depending on who you ask).
Driving somewhere else for breakfast every day was definitely not what we had in mind when we booked.
It would be great if the meals on the menu were labeled properly – this would really improve communication and reduce confusion.
Another point: the hotel is not located in Ubud, even though it is advertised that way.
With Grab or Gojek, you can get to Ubud fairly quickly and cheaply (around 30 minutes depending on traffic), but there’s nothing within walking distance of the hotel.
About the room:
The bed was large and the mattress was comfortable.
BUT – if you’re a light sleeper, this is not the place for you.
Aside from nature sounds like birds and frogs (which start around 5 AM), there is a temple nearby that plays very loud music almost every day until around 11:30 PM. Of course, that’s not the hotel’s fault – but it would have been nice to know this in advance.
The staff is kind and tries very hard, and they have that wonderful Balinese warmth.
However, some of them speak only very basic English, which caused some communication issues.
The resort itself is quite beautiful, but unfortunately the only shared pool was under renovation – something we only found out upon arrival.
There is a small whirlpool, but it is only available for spa healing treatments.
All in all, this unfortunately was not a great experience for us.
We would have appreciated knowing these things in advance to avoid coming with the wrong expectations
Pros: Bed
Cons: Food (everything with honey), Noise, No alternatives

Beautiful & peaceful spot in Ubud - Edit
Fivelements was an incredibly peaceful place to stay. Feeling very rejuvenated after having stayed here! The staff are friendly, helpful & professional. The morning yoga every day was a great way to start the day. Spa treatments and facility are one of a kind. Away from the chaos of Ubud town but you can still get there with the resort shuttle, Grab or Gojek.

Perfect date place! - Edit
My boyfriend and I had a date here few years back and it was perfect. A romantic place not so close to the busiest streets in town. Hope to come back soon.

Vegan Heaven - Edit
If you are after a wellness and relaxation holiday this is the place to be. Everything is just lovely and the food is delightful. The entire menu is plant based with the exception of a few items containing honey.

Peaceful location, great food - Edit
Stayed here for 2 nights. Staff was very friendly. Accommodations were beautiful and relaxing. The grounds and the pool were also amazing.
Read moreThe food is really where they stand out. It is by far the best vegan food we’ve had, by a long shot (and we live in the US Pacific Northwest). Each time we ate at the restaurant, we had a chance to talk to the chef, who was more than happy to discuss the food. Take note, there is honey in some items, but they’re more than happy to leave out (asked once, and everyone remembered the request after that!) Amazing service. Wish we had more time to stay here.
