Great food and well priced - Edit
Ate at this place a few times whilst in San Pedro, they have multiple specials each day as well as the a la carte menu. Menu varies from empanadas (big ones!), tacos, burgers, pizza, salads, soups and fresh juices. They have an option of a 3 course meal for 5000clp which includes a starter of salad or soup, a main from a choice of 4 specials (e.g. spaghetti bolognese, risotto, lentils with rice) and dessert (it was a pancake with jam and a rice pudding when I went). If you just want the main from the specials without the other courses that’s possible too for 3000clp. For vegans you will have to specify without cheese as most dishes contain it. They are environmentally conscious too. The place is in the same building as another restaurant so make sure when you enter you sit on the right hand side. Service is friendly and they speak English.

We loved it! - Edit
Our non-veg friends probably liked it more than we did, but we ate lunch and dinner here for 3 days in a row and still managed to not have repeats.
Read moreThe pizza is ok, the empanadas are HUGE, and the plate of the day always has something you've never tried but will like.
They're super friendly, but service can be slow when busy, so don't go here in a rush.
However, you SHOULD go here!
Pros: Friendly, No meat, Massive empanadas

Went there for dinner, it‘s located in a kind of foodcourt with other restaurants calld Aura Andina. We had the very tasty cheese and vegetable-tacos and a salad with baked potato-wedges. Both meals seemed very fresh and where very tasty

great vegan burger - Edit
This place is vegetarian/vegan. We had the vegan soy burger which was amazing. The vegetarian dishes can be made vegan by removing the cheese. It's a great place and the staff are friendly as well. I would definitely recommend eating here.
Read moreOne thing to be aware of is that the address on this website is wrong. It is at 362 Caracoles Street rather than 169 and is part of a food court.
I asked the owner when they are open and she said everyday except Mondays but if you do go I would check which day in the week they will be closed as it may vary.

Great menu of the day! - Edit
We came to Estrella every day for dinner or lunch. Their menu of the day changes every day and they offer soup or salad with a main for around 4,000 Chilean pesos.

Our waitress knew we were vegan so gave us a different dipping sauce with our complementary bread, as opposed to their creamy dipping sauce.

Entire menu can be made vegan - Edit
We had two meals here and enjoyed both. Each of our two different servers knew what vegan was and told us the entire menu *could be* veganized, though most of it has cheese by default. Just be clear and you should have no problem.
Read moreMy favorite dish across the meals was the soy hamburger con arroz that we get as part of a daily menu. Empanadas and salad were both good too. The only dish I'd avoid is the tacos, which were bland.

Cute and humble little veg place - Edit
The salad, soy burger and natural fruit juices made the place a welcome change to all the other restaurants in San Pedro of Atacama. Food was fresh, colourful and tasty. Cheese could be removed from most meals to veganise. I enjoyed the bright space and simple food.

Could be so much better! - Edit
We have eaten here today for the 3rd day. The menu of the day is affordable (for San Pedro) and it is the only fully vegetarian in this town. However, being a "vegetarian/ VEGAN restaurant" as stated on their menu, you would expect them to know what 'vegan' means. As I do whilst travelling, I ask, I got very rude replies every time until today, where the waitress confirmed EVERYTHING on the daily menu is vegan, but we got cheese on both plates and cream sauce on the pesto pasta. The staff work as if they don't care. They also charge 10% extra for tips.

Best choice in San Pedro - Edit
So Estrella Negra is located on the main street of San Pedro. As you enter there are two restaurants, one Peruan one or something like that (claiming most of the space) and Estrella Negra on the right hand side (the tables are different, that's how you can figure out). By the way, the name seems to me very random as there wasn't anything that would remind me of a 'black star'. Anyway, almost everything on the menu contains cheese, but can be made vegan upon request. Probably the better choice is to take the daily menu consisting of two courses (and a bite) and rather inexpensive. Soup or salad and main. Sometimes everything provided on the daily menu is vegan, sometimes only some dishes.
Read moreI ate there three or four times - it was fair, but not exceptional. The food was filling but average. The service was alright and the staff were nice but somewhat unmotivated.
The atmosphere wasn't thrilling, you don't really want to spend that much time there as far as I am concerned, it simply wasn't very comfortable.
On the other hand Estrella Negra is likely the best place for vegans in Atacama and that's something I give them credit for.
Pros: vegan options on daily menu, rather inexpensive
Cons: lacks comfort, average food

Tasty vegan food - Edit
Vegetarian and vegan food. The vegetarian options can be veganised. There is a menu of the day which was cheaper option. Or you can choose from the menu. The burgers were really nice. There was vegan chocolate cake, cookies, and pancakes. Friendly staff. Located amongst the main area of town.

Amazing vegan options - Edit
My wife and I got the set menu, which was all vegan. We got one salad and one soup to start so we could share. For the main, we shared the risotto stuffed red pepper with potatoes, and the spaghetti with "meatballs" (home made soy patties). Super tasty, and probably the most affordable place to eat - about half the price of Todo Natural.

OMG!!!! Vegan food in San Pedro de Atacama - Edit
This restaurant is located on the main pedestrian street carcoles in the el toconar del patio. Numerous vegan options on the specials board. Delicious integral pita with olive pate. Pesto dish was great, Swiss chard stir fried with bell peppers potatoes onions and carrots was salty but just the right amount. Finally tortilla made with spinach, potatoes, red bell pepper was delightful. Side of potatoes evenly spiced and delicious.

great place! - Edit
i was really happy to find this place in san pedro de atacama. during my stay (last couple of days) they didnt have most things on the regular menu but instead 2-3 daily menus (for about 3500 chilenean pesos, much cheaper than most places in town) each day of which 1 or 2 were always vegan (loved the soyburger!). the juices are also great and really fresh, havent tried the deserts yet but its on my list.
Read moresince ive gotten here the place was open every day, including saturdays, from lunchtime until about 7 or 8pm.
if youre in atacama and see people selling food in the street you should also ask if its vegan, chances seem to be quite good. met two guys who are walking around during lunchtime, one selling vegan burgers, the other one vegetarian/vegan empanadas.

good stuff! - Edit
Just arrived after a long trip to San Pedro and was recommended this place by a friendly chap on the street. Small but adequate menu. I went for a salad and my friend the tacos but had we been more hungry we would have tucked into one of the many empanadas in offer, including quinoa! Maybe tomorrow ;) very decent portions, tasty, fresh and with a yummy mango juice on the side, a nice start! The deserts looked amazing but couldn't quite fit one in.

Excellent food but in a hidden location - Edit
After seeing this restaurant listed on this website, I decided to find it as it was within a couple of minutes from my hostel. I totally found it by fluke as I was distracted by a friend I bumped into. It was located behind another restaurant. I was only able to find it because of a little sign along the road. It was a small place and no one was there. The cook/server came out of the kitchen and since I speak no Spanish, all I did was point at myself and say "vegano'. She understood right away and showed me the small menu and pointed out about half of the dishes that I could eat since I'm vegan. I chose on a salad and a soy burger with a pineapple juice. She first brought out some toasted bread with what looked like mayonnaise and made me aware that it was a soy spread. Awesome. Then my juice. Very fresh and yummy. Then she brought out a huge salad with good presentation points. Awesome. Then came my soy burger. I find soy burgers in Chile are nothing like the ones you find in North America. It was a massive burger to start, the patty full of grains. The bun was very healthy, whole wheat. And the burger was topped with lettuce, tomato, and avocado. She even brought me more soy spread to add to it. Delicious! I was so full. And the price was quite reasonable since San Pedro de Atacama is very touristy. All for about $9 US/CDN. I'm going back there tomorrow. And the next day.

Cons: Not enough customers there
