Stopped by to get a chickpea burger to go. the restaurant staff were friendly, and the food didn’t take long to appear. Nice vibes in the restaurant.

Great Food - all organic and vegan - Edit
We made this our first stop and one of our last stops in Costa Rica.
Read moreGreat owner, organic, great dishes. We got their Crispy Chante Burger twice and I really liked the patacones on our last meal. They also had a locally made passion fruit (maracuya) cake our first meal.
Yes it is a pricier option than other places but it is also using organic ingredients and make many things like their chickpea and other patties in house.
Pros: Great Ingredients, Interesting Menu, Veganized Costa Rican Dishes

Ordered Delivery - Edit
Ordering delivery was a little confusing. We called and the menu on Facebook I guess is not updated. They said to look on Instagram but it’s the same menu. No website. Then then told us to order by texting them in WhatsApp. The delivery was fast. About 30 min from when we ordered. The food was amazing! I regret not taking pictures. We had the Crispy Chante burger, the patacones and the chalupas. Also, got the quinoa burger which was not as good but still very good!

Good food. - Edit
This is the first/only place I’ve tried in San Jose. Maybe I’ll come back and edit this after I’ve eaten other place. This place is small, but has a large menu (picture added). I got the nachos, the eggplant burger, a watermelon drink, and a slice of chocolate cake (pictures added). Everything was very good. The total was $29 US, which seems very high to me.

Good - Edit
The patacones were delicious. 🤤 Definitely recommend.
Read moreI did not care for the chifrijo. I think it probably was good just not my flavor profile. I was expecting a plate of rice and beans with the "pork" but it came more like a soup.

Delicious Vegan Food in Costa Rica - Edit
The food was absolutely delicious! The chickpea burger was great, the french fries were much better than the usual, and the guacamole burger was divine. It was a welcoming and very clean place. And the waitstaff spoke English when our Spanish was inadequate. I highly recommend this place!

Cute spot near San José - Edit
Th food was good but the bread to pattie ratio was too big for my tastes. Would definitely go back to retry some of the other dishes.

Stinking service - Edit
I don’t like leaving vegan places negative reviews but I feel the need to call out how bad the service was here when we visited.

I ate here with my boyfriend, the food was good. We got burgers and we both really liked them. I can’t say I was impressed by the Oreo milkshake tho or the cupcake we got. I would say if you order something, go by what others have had and liked.

Worst service ever - Edit
The service there is so bad. Their card machine wasn’t working and we needed to hop into our cab with no more time to go to the atm as they suggested so we ended up leaving hungry. We ordered food here when we arrived to CR (which wasn’t tasty or nice at all) but we thought to give it another try as we want to support vegan businesses .. but unfortunately they left us unsatisfied both times plus they were out of a lot of food and not to talk about the ambience which is basically not exist.

Great place for all - unique fusion & fresh - Edit
lly great food & they make it fresh. Honestly, anything you try will taste good. They make their own patties for the chickpea/quinoa burgers - but the burger we had was really fantastic and unique in taste (the crispy eggplant one w/ balsamic vinegar because I can’t remember the name), the nachos were tasty, the burrito was yum too - great fries w/ seasoning, plata is and falafel balls. They’re pasta looks great too and next time would love to try dessert. It’s a hole in the wall place & the vibe is adorable. The servers make it fresh & raw.

I had one of the burgers with fries and a mango smoothie and it was all so good. I also ordered a pesto pasta to go for later and a slice of cake and they were both delicious. So grateful this place was here because it was the only vegan place within a huge radius of where I was staying.

Highly recommended - Edit
El Chante Vegano, is a Costa Rican owned fully vegan café with plentiful food and beverage options. The crispy chickpea burger with side of potatoes or half plate of bountiful salad and dressing was excellent.
Read moreThe owner is often there and speaks perfect English and works tirelessly to provide a great vegan dining experience. From the San Jose airport, it is a short taxi or very inexpensive Uber ($3) drive to the café, located in central Alajuela, great for walking around after your meal. Vegan restaurants can be challenging to stay in business in CR so please support them! They also sell excellent organic coffee and self-designed tshirts.

visit👏 this👏 restaurant👏 - Edit
This place is one of the best vegan restaurants I‘ve ever been too. The menu is great. Soo many options. It was hard to choose. And boy, was the food delicious. We had the spicy cauliflower tacos and the burrito. Both were fantastic. The sangria was the best I had in 3 weeks being in Costa Rica. I tried several 😜. The staff was friendly, too
