Delicious!!

Tucked away down a quiet Cali street it would be easy to walk past this little gem. Luckily with the help of HappyCow and my map I was able to find it easily. The staff were super friendly and attentive and talked us through the menu. There were so many options that it was difficult to choose. My boyfriend decided on the oriental tofu soup and I had a quinoa and avocado salad with a lemonade. The food was delicious and so full of flavour! Definitely recommend trying the lemonade too!

Pros: Lots of options, Lots of options, Lots of options

Mucha variedad, precios altos // many options, a little expensive

It's located just past the street of Zanahoria Hostel (the only vegan hostel in Colombia in which we stayed), so it is quite convenient, the place is very beautiful with excellent atmosphere, they have a super wide menu, with options of pasta, hamburgers, sandwiches, and even vegan ice cream and cake (The ice cream is very delicious), the prices are quite high compared to the other places in the area, but it is worth passing and try some things, everything is very good and the portions are large.

Pros: Excelente ambiente, Muchas opciones , Opciones de postres y helado veganos

Cons: Algo caro en comparación a la competencia, Sirven lácteos

Quite good - lots of choice - cake was a big let down

I came here for lunch. There was a lot of choice and I was attracted to a lot of the options. I had a chickpea burger in the end and it was very good. Not enough fried potatoes though. Side dips were really good but didn't feel there was enough food to fully utilise the dippiness of the dips. I had a mango juice and that was OK - although I've had much better across south america - they add water and dilutes the richness of the mango taste. I then sat around for a bit and chatted to another diner - who had the grill up and that looked nice. I then ordered a tea and a cake. The cake option I wanted wasn't available so I opted for a chocolate cake - a big let down - dry and tasteless. When I went to pay the other cake was available at the counter and it looked better.
There are many vegan options except they are not marked clearly on the menu - which is a shame - so ask or if this is read by someone working there then indicate more clearly on the menu. It is also expensive relative to local prices. I liked the atmosphere.

Pros: Lots of options, Nice busy but pleasant atmosphere

Cons: Expensive by local standards, Very poor cake, Vegan options not clearly marked

Terrible experience

I came back here a week later with an additional 7 people to show how good it was and it was embarrassing how bad this experience was. First the was a hair on the empanada dish. My sister got parmesan cheese with her meal even though we told them we were vegan. Then my girlfriend found aluminum tinfoil in her dish which they offered to replace with a free meal , after multiple checks about gluten being in a dish they said no soon as I tasted it, there was soy sauce marinated tofu which main ingredient is wheat which I experienced stomach pains within 15 min. Then when it came to the bill we were charged for tamales which we asked for but they didnt have, so they removed it but the bill they hand wrote didnt add up. Then they re wrote it and got a different amount 3 times. Finally got it right in the last attempt. This was my girlfriends favourite restaurant in the entire world and was super excited to bring me when we traveled back to her home country from Canada. This was a big let down. On top of that, in response to my sister's facebook review they replied with lies saying we changed the bill our selves and that we put the hair in dish and that we were laughing about them not having meat in their dishes which is laughable since we are vegan and animal rights activists. Let's get something straight, they knew I was celiac and they still fed me a meal with gluten, I didn't as for it to be replaced and I didn't as for it to be taken off the bill, I just didn't eat it. I did however order a mocha and a dessert. I find it terrible that they are trying to save face instead of apologizing or trying to rectify a poor experience. It may have been a good restaurant once upon a time however in my recent experience it was a nightmare.

Pros: Empanadas tasted good. Mocha was alright.

Cons: Juice was really watered Down. Food was was lackin

Vegan South American food and vegan desserts

I loved this place, it was on the same street as my hostel in San Antonio, had a cheap menu of the day with generous portions, vegan Colombian/Latin American dishes (empañadas, tamales), and some amazing vegan desserts (banana/chocolate cake with vegan ice-cream). The staff was very friendly, the place was beautiful, a 10 out of 10!

A gemstone for vegans in the meat eating city

Met with a menu of a really great selection for both vegans and vegetarians. The price made it easy not to order everything on it! Not looking at the prices in Europe, but compared to the location being Colombia, where a full meal usually costs you 5000 pesos. Gladly we started out with a really nice lunch time 2for1 deal on iced coffee with soy milk, extremely satisfying. We had a vegetarian lentil burger meal, without cheese, it came with a small portion of fries, the size of the burger were nicely big! An un toasted bun, continuing the dry experience with the lack of any kind of mayo and ketchup inside of it. Though on the side you got served three small dips; tomato salsa, guacamole and hummus all pretty dull of taste. The lentil beef and the small pieces of soy sausage in the burger were quite tasty and well spiced! Beautiful colorful tiles on the floor, nice not too bright lighting, lovely amount of Plants all around plus low and calm un-disturbing music. We give: 2 STARS for the burger - 3 STARS for the atmosphere and effort - 3 STARS for the service

The BEST vegetarian restaurant in Colombia

I have been to 20+ vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Colombia and this one is by far the BEST! First of all, lunch costs $ 10.000, they are open until 9-ish and they have a huge menu with nearly every dish, from lasagna to vegetarian bandeja paisa, vegan ice-cream, etc etc.

Price is average, there are some expensive items on the menu but also cheap ones. Seats aren't very comfortable though but the food is amazing!

Pros: GREAT food, lots of dishes on the menu

great luñch, highly recommended

I visited El Buen Alimento with my daughter this lunch time, and had a lovely meal.
At my daughters advice I had the tamales because she said it was a very Columbian dish, it came with soup, salad desert and large passion fruit drink , all of which was very tasty, filling and well presented.
The setting was lovely very chilled and relaxed and all the staff were welcoming and friendly.
As well as the menu of the day there is an extensive menu all veggi and lots of vegan choices I will diffinantly be back this week.

Pros: great selection, very heathly, nice vibe

Good location, vegan ice cream!!

El Buen Alimento is a lovely, large restaurant in San Antonio, near to many hostels and the church on the hill. My partner and I loved the falafel wrap - especially as it came with a tray of delicious sauces. However, the most exciting part was the vegan dessert menu, which has awesome creamy mocha ice cream. Eat all the aforementioned items, as you won´t be able to find much ice cream, falafel or hummus in Colombia! Only downside is the price - most items were around 15,000 or more.

Pros: Vegan dessert, Falafel, Nice atmosphere

Cons: Price

Delicious lasagna and good menu

I went for lunch on a Saturday and choose the lasagna menu as it was 1000 pesos more than just lasagna and included soup, salad and a drink. I had the soup and then the huge lasagna with bread and salad arrived. It was delicious but I couldn't finish it as it was very filling. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Pros: Menu in Spanish and English , Lots of choice

Nice atmosphere, slow service

I've been to El Buen Alimento two times in September 2014, on my first day in Cali for a plate of falafels (COP 6,500) and a two fruits juice (5,000). They served it with a large selection of different salsas.
We went back for the "Hamburger Day" (Thursday): 2 hamburgers + 2 juices for 24,000 (normally the hamburgers start at 12,500). There is a vegan option for each hamburger, which is great, but the hamburgers (from chickpeas, lentils, etc.) weren't the best I tasted.
The two days, the service was very slow, but I liked how calm it was.
FYI, the set menu is at 10,000 (soup, salad, meal of the day, dessert of the day and juice), super cheap! It is even cheaper for the Tamal Menu (9,000).

Finally, a veggie burger in South America!

I've tried so many things on the menu, but still keep coming back to the veggie burger. They have two different types; gluten and falafel. Then add the fries and the dipping sauce for one amazing meal ($10.000). I live 3 hours away, but continue to make the trip just for the burgers!

On a side note, they are willing to sell vital wheat gluten which is really hard to find in South America.

Pros: Veggie burgers! , Inexpensive. , Great variety.
